Saints analysis did a breakdown of him pre SW, and, in the whole I do like that account BUT Armas game is based entirely about making late runs in behind… SW set up specifically as an extremely low block to stifle any space in behind them.. unfortunately I think it’ll be a common theme this year

We’ll be better playing off a striker in the mould of Che Adams who can occupy one of the oppositions CBs and contribute more in possession

Arma worked hard, but I don’t think he fits these tactics

I think if we do sign Matt Grimes that will help AA because he's brilliant at pinging very accurate passes into the channels which would give AA the chance to use his pace.

Hitting the channels is something you'd hope most of our players could do. The issue for me will be whether AA could make the right runs, and whether Martin wants to play that way anyway. It seems that we'll need a forward better suited to getting the ball to feet and doing something with it and/or getting on the end of cute passes between the defence and being ruthless. Che would be perfect if he could actually finish!

All I know is being a fan of our club is better than being a fan of Ajax.

They look like they will lose this window - Tadic, Kudus, Alvarez, Timber and Bassey among others and only really bought Borges so far, they must be screwed financially now they aren't in the champions league this season.

That makes sense. Personally, I'd agree to to let him go next summer if we don't go up. Although I'd hope that that may make the difference, my instinct is that he'll go.

Very decent point. 
We are set up to be devastating towards teams that want to attack us with a high press. In which case having three players up front ( AA,Edozie and NT who are all swift to latch onto calls out over the top is a good plan - BUT putting all our eggs into one stylistic basket. 
 

On the other hand Che Adams holds play up better than AA but lacks his pace imo. Having BOTH  available or players with those attributes is the better answer because the opposition teams will have to have to defend differently - in which case all good- but if we are not breaking teams down ( like last year) then holding CF players are going to be relatively more useful. Thats a big “if” as I suspect at Championship level we WILL be breaking teams down more often. 

I think Martin perhaps expected Shef weds to attack us more- being at home first match back up etc - and chose AA for Che accordingly - but the fact they did not should be a good pointer to what set up most teams will employ against us this season, and hence why it’s a good idea to have that plan b and c.

He scored a lot of his goals for Blackburn by making runs into the channels. We've never used him that way which is why we've never seen the best of him. Poor bloke has been starved of the sort of service he thrives on.

Lots of effort and energy to a point, I actually forgot he was playing in the second half. I keep willing him to do well but he remains ineffective. Still hoping he turns a corner.

His passing game for a start is awful unfortunately

He’s been linked with Belgium and German clubs but nothing in the last week or two that I’ve seen. 
 

AA was so isolated from play in the 2nd half on Friday I was wondering if it would work to have 9 men playing total football, and 1 big stationary bloke stood in the six yard box between the posts who we chip the ball to. He either heads it in or knocks it down Pelle style to Charley or one of the wingers to finish off

We’re more dynamic than that, and to be fair Adams wins his fair share of aerial balls but also adds a lot more

For me its Adams or a new signing, with Arma being available if the game gets stretched

That’s obviously not on the Martin playbook but in certain situations it really makes sense.
If he leaves, as seems likely, so be it, but even a Man City can lob it long to Hoiland on occasion and it sticks due to his size ( strength pace and skill). Last CF we had that excited me at SMS had to go back to Chelsea unfortunately….

That’s the issue really - Paul is hopeless at pressing, and movement of more than 10 yards. BUT he must have the knack of being in the right place at the right time in front of goal because of the number of goals he’s scored consistently in previous seasons. 
 

Don’t get me wrong I’d rather have a fit Danny Ings in that role but we’re a Championship side for now and don’t have that budget

Reminds me of the old Woody Allen line....."the last time I was inside a woman was during a visit to the Statue Of Liberty."

Can't see a future here for Paul O.   It all depends on the Adams situation - I'd be happy enough with Adams and AA,,,,,,back up from Mara.  Especially the case if Tella stays.

He would actually have suited that Wednesday game a lot. The number of crosses we put into the box where it was crying out for a big forward to get in the end of them!

Was also not even mentioned by Martin when he was talking about strikers he had in the squad. Pretty sure all parties know he's off but because he'll need a wage cut I've got a hunch he's leaving it until the last minute to get one last big months pay :D

Aarons is more of an up and down wing back and doesn't have the range of skills of KWP in my opinion, although he's probably faster than KWP and perhaps a better defender, but he would be less well suited to the close passing in tight areas that Russel Martin's style needs.

Tall Paul struck me as living proof of Brian Clough’s old comment of a player “who couldn’t trap a bag of cement”.

BUT on the occasions I’ve seen him he unsettled the Wolves defence a bit, and drew a good save from Fabianski in a match we’d created nothing in.
 

He might offer something as the often hyped ‘Plan B’ or ‘C’ , but that may seem a luxury if taking up a squad place better used by someone else.

Once Hojbjerg has completed his move to Atletico, I fully expect Spurs to use the funds to bid for JWP.

It's the only club I could see him really "wanting" to go to (without European football).
