Dusic Posted 24 May, 2023 Share Posted 24 May, 2023 Whilst he was only playing at National League level, Nico Lawrence did very well at Torquay and won their Young Player of the Year. Not saying he will come back and be a starter but will be interesting to see whether he gets a chance in pre season. He is very good on the ball which will presumably appeal for RM. Otherwise agree that I don't see any of the loanees making an impact aside from Tella (if somehow he stays) and Smallbone.
SaintNewForest Posted 24 May, 2023 Share Posted 24 May, 2023 Watts is out of contract, and presumably will be released. Could see Simeu potentially stepping up into a backup role, but can't see a place for the rest of them. Vokins is a weird one - went on loan to Woking (in the conference) last summer, couldn't get in their team, we recalled him in January but he hasn't been seen or heard from since. Vokins was rated at one point, but I don't see him going much further than non-league in his career. Probably needs to drop down to Conference South and work his way back up, he may make it as a league player - but no higher than L2, just don't think he's got it. What about Caleb Watts, Kegs Chauke, Dynel Simeu, Dan N’Lundulu, Kazeem Olaigabe, Thierry Small, Jack Bycroft? Surely Watts, Olaigabe and Chauke can give us some depth in midfield. And what about Jake Vokins - he’s already back from loan. Could he provide cover at left back? And could Lewis Payne provide competition at right back? Thierry Small has been linked to Rangers today https://www.rangersnews.uk/news/thierry-small-eyed-by-rangers-after-premier-league-interest/ Simeu lost his place in League 1 Morecombe's starting line up towards the end of the season, so not sure he is ready. Vokins has never looked good enough and has been plying his trade at National League Woking. I don't think he will be in our squad next season. Caleb Watts has also struggled to get in the Morecombe side, starting one game since the end of January. N'Lundulu has mostly come on as a sub at Bolton and has been `uninspiring' according to a Bolton fan I know. Kegs Chauke hardly figured for league 1 Exeter City until the final month of the season, whereupon he started the last 6 games. We will have a gaping hole in central midfield of course. Kazeem Olaigbe was a fixture in the Harrogate Town side in the second half of the season. I think he has scored a few goals too. Turkish may have a view on him, but it's League 2, so it would be a big step up. Jack Bycroft has been playing for Taunton in the National League South. Oliver Wright may become our third choice keeper - both are 20.

Chez Posted 24 May, 2023 Share Posted 24 May, 2023 We need a left back. Larios and Small might be options, but if not, I wonder if Ruben Vinagre might be a possibility. Sporting Lisbon don't seem all that keen on him, loaning him out to Everton, where he hasn't played a single minute. Whenever I saw him for Wolves I thought he looked technically great and very exciting going forward. Not sure about him defensively - not seen enough. But the left back position continues to be a problem that needs solving.

Agreed - Shift them on, add in a buy back clause of some kind (especially with Small - probably the most likely to make it i'd say). Arguably, getting a good number of the players we don't want out is more important than who we bring in.

Very harsh. Adams is a mighty useful player when used correctly and was a major part in Ings success here. Our issue with Che, is we have insisted on using him as a lone forward, which he very obviously cannot do. His all-round game is excellent though and his services will be well sought after. Numerous moves were turned down prior to this season, so very much expect him to be playing Premier League next season, and showing what he can do when played to his strengths. Square peg, round hole. Our own fault.

Quick, skillful scored some good goals and looks to have something. It’s a big jump and I would say he needs to be tested at league one level next season as to be honest Harrogate have not been a good side this season and also not played to his strengths, been long ball a lot this season without having strikers to play that way so he’s been good despite them not because of them. Which makes me hopeful he could be even better in a decent footballing side that can use him better

Holmes_and_Watson Posted 24 May, 2023 Share Posted 24 May, 2023 Apparently, he got nutmegged a little bit before, lost his cool over it and put in a very bad tackle. They've had 10 reads this season. Small's picked up a couple of those. Mixed feelings about him there, but definitely needs to have more self control. That was part of the issues in our last pre season. All you have to do is look at our strikers since promotion, at age 21 Lambert was playing in midfield for Stockport in League 1, Jay-Rod was on loan at Barnsley, Pelle was playing in the third tier in Italy, Austin was playing for Swindon in League 1, and Ings was playing his first full season in the Championship. None of those would have been players we'd want to sign, or thought they'd be good enough at that age.
