There's nothing actually on that Daily Mail journalist's twitter feed about Lavia though.

the SaintsExtra regurgitation account has lifted the line from this Daily Mail article.

SAMI MOKBEL: Mauricio Pochettino's enthusiasm shone through in Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Liverpool and he has brought a clear plan to Stamford Bridge | Daily Mail Online

the sole mention of Lavia in the article comes as follows:

"The arrival of Moises Caicedo from Brighton can’t come soon enough for Pochettino, though at 5ft 10ins the Ecuador international won't solve the team’s lack of height in central midfield.

Nor will Romeo Lavia, who is just an inch taller than Caicedo, who is also set to join from Southampton."

If it's just 'height' they're looking for, I think I have the solution.....

Smallbone like Tella was deemed surplus to requirements last year. No surprise that either would be open to a Premier League move.

Would it be that big a deal? A nuisance yes, bit of a hit to our collective egos, but both could be replaced.  Tella from existing resources and presumably a wedge straight to Swansea for Grines, to replace Smallbone.

They are under contract and new management now so they should stop whining (if indeed they are or ever were?) knuckle down and get on with it.

Sounds like an excuse to me. How many players do we send off somewhere else if they have a muscle injury? Combine that with the loan comments and the comment from Martin about coming back with a "renewed energy." I reckon he's said he doesn't want it.

Expand

Yep, is he a dick or is he injured? Or both. I’ve seen so little of him I’m not sure I care too much if he stays or if he goes.

Where is Broja? I can’t seem to find out anything relating to his situation, is he still LTI? (Wishful thinking that there is another WHU type px / sweetener to be done)

How much better would it be if Saints announced the permanent signing of Downes today instead of a loan

I don't see the problem of a loan with an option to buy. He clearly wants to play in the prem and could probably get a club there at the moment.

I know, It'll just give the fans a bigger boost. Quite a coup really to bring Downes in tbh.

Ah good point. And as someone who's totally not ITK, what is this other club that's apparently pitching in for Lavia?

Athletico I think

But it’s redundant I think he’ll pitch up at Chelsea in the next 48 hrs but honestly who knows with this saga right now

Last I heard, he was still recovering from his ACL. I think it was a pretty bad one (I know they all are, but still...) And although he did well in the treatment room, he has yet to make many minutes on the pitch....

...would be a big risk for any club at this stage (particularly given his game is all about that burst of pace and power).

Obviously, hope the lad recovers and reaches somewhere near his obvious potential. But it won't be here, this season.

I just don't get why he'd go to Chelsea apart from money. There midfield is Caceido and Fernandez, plus an attacking CM or two 10's in behind a striker. He'd play every week at Liverpool who don't have a CDM, and had to resort to playing Gakpo in midfield.

And Liverpool are prepared to match Chelsea's offer of £55m. Fuck 'em. We've got that offer. To you it's £60m. And then wouldn't it be good if Lavia 'did a Caceido' and said he didn't want to go there? 😉

Personally I'd like to us get as much as cash as possible, and see the kid make progress... potentially very helpful to us if we agree a sell on clause.

How much to Man City get from the sale?

Obviously we dont know for sure as we only have newspaper reports to go on, but it will likely be 20% of the profit, not the full £55m (assuming that's the final figure). So, 20% of £44m, assuming he was signed for £11m last summer. Roughly £8.8m in other words.

For that reason might be better if he goes to Chelsea as they seem to have a higher turnover of players, and within two years they'll want to bring in the 'next big name'.

Slight aside (sorry if mentioned), but Jackson looked excellent for Chelsea yesterday, clearly going to be a top striker. At least it shows our scouts had some ide in January.

Should have done a Fergie and signed him immediately after he ran our defence ragged in the friendly last summer.

Some of us beat that drum all last summer.

He needs to play to impress and get his next big move. He'll be a bit part player at Chelsea.

From The Guardian:

  Quote

f, as free-market orthodoxy tells us, price is dependent on the interaction between demand and supply, Brighton and Southampton should probably be thinking of adding a few million to the fees of both Moisés Caicedo and Roméo Lavia. There is only one of each and both Liverpool and Chelsea are in desperate need of players who can add discipline and muscularity to their midfields.

Expand

So Liverpool could still buy him, it would just need about 25 million than they first offered.. 🙂

Think Onuachu rank’s probably 3rd on all time worst transfers. Cost was high but we seem to be getting something back for him, which lowers him on the list.

1. Carillo

2. Osvaldo

Delagado must be a candidate here too.  Different era with smaller fees

Will be interesting to see how we spend the money we've got now as clubs will know we have the cash. Slightly odd that the two players linked as closest to joining are loans (Downes and Holgate). Could be a busy two weeks...

We owe a fortune in instalments for players we've signed previously, and I suspect have had to cut our losses on some we've moved on. This idea that we've got all the money from sales to spend on new players is unrealistic. We've already splashed out on Charles. I suspect we'll buy one or two more, but I'm not surprised to see loans coming in.
