Summer Transfer Window 2023

Even though we’ve lost Elyanoussi, Walcott, Wily, Diallo, Salisu, Celeta-Carr and plus Livramento and couple more to follow shortly we’ve still got 27 players plus the Yoof. We need to clear out another 7 or 7 really. Just like last time we went down squad is bloated with loads of crap players

Our one time target Carlos Borges, and one who was seemingly destined for West Ham, has actually ended up signing for Ajax.

WHU are having a total mare.

I actually quite liked what Martin said earlier, speaks sense - we can't just aimlessly add more to this size of squad. I've seen some people on Twitter yapping on about crap like asset stripping, no investing etc, but any sensible operation isn't going to add to an already bloated work force. Needs trimming.

If we go in to the season with what we have today we'll probably do ok, it's not like we're totally desperate for players if everyone stays here. I just fear a last week rush as clubs finally meet our asking prices, you just have to hope we have stuff lined up to press go on fairly quickly if that happens.

Yes. We probably need to lose more than 7 if we want to bring in some new faces as well

Yep, and that youth includes Simeu, Small, Dibling, Doyle, Ballard, Meghoma and Amo-Ameyaw who ought to be in or around the first team, at least for cup games. I reckon 7-10 still need to get gone to leave room for 4-5 Martin players, and give some kind of pathway for the better kids.

“Wilcox will know him from Man City”. Joe Hart hasn’t played for Man City since 2016, a time when Wilcox was working for City’s academy. And Hart is vastly experienced because he’s 36 years old. And, as said above, he wasn’t required at City because it was reported at the time that he was poor with his distribution. Not sure I see much wisdom in this, even if he is likely to be better than Bazunu (low benchmark).

That's the nightmare isn't it, come Friday Sept 1st Saints lose 2 or 3 crucial players (think Alcarez or KWP) as Prem teams become desperate. Absolutely no chance of replacing them before January. That will be uber annoying.

The board really need to make it clear that all sales must be completed by 25th August, after that no dice.

I think that's the stance we'll take, I genuinely believe we don't need to sell - we're just saying if you want our players, it's on our terms.

Those terms will have to be both financially and timing in my opinion. We can't be entertaining bids on deadline day.

I don’t see how we lose 10 more without gutting the squad of good players. I don’t expect there to be a rush to buy/loan all the dross fringe players.

Losing 10 leaves us with 17 first team squad members. Add 4 or 5 and we have 22-23 plus the likes of Amo-Ameyaw, Doyle, Ballard, Meghoma etc. I can't see that we need more than that.

Still likely we could/will lose:

JWP, Adams, KWP, Lavia

Would like to lose:

Tall Paul, Lyanco, ABK, McCarthy, Djenppo

Wouldn't be fussed if we lose:

AA, Perraud, Stephens, Bednarek, Bazunu

Plenty to choose from there but can't see many takers for some of those

Not sure we can get to 10 without losing Alcaraz at well which really would be all of our half decent players from last year.

Because you’d be most likely be left largely with 17 of the worst ones. I’d much prefer lose less if it means losing less good players.

That's the issue, some of them won't be wanted by other clubs, and others won't want to go for a lesser wage. Getting rid of some of these is likely to hit us hard in the pocket, but it's that or keep them and pay them not to play. Not ideal.

McCarthy...there's 10, although I don't think it'll that many purely because there's some we won't be able to shift. Regardless of the numbers, we need a huge clear out before Martin can bring in more players that he wants.

Could add to that list the likes of Mara, Sulemana, Stephens and Bednarek. Don’t expect them all to go of course, but individually wouldn’t be surprised if any of them left before the window is done.

Not necessarily. Even ignoring the players out of contract, we’ve still managed to offload Orsic, Salisu, Lis and DCC. Cant say I’m sad about that. There’re only really four players I’d care about losing anyway.

I reckon there's 7 or 8 that I think most of us would be relaxed (or happy) to see gone. My concern is more about making room for 4-5 new starters that'll suit Martin's style and improve us. Half a new team, plus Charles and Manning, and we're getting where we need to be.

I’d be very annoyed if we lose kwp and tella. It would just likely be weakening the team and wouldn’t even reduce squad as they’d need replacing.

There’s a ton more dross (aribo, larios, Bree, McCarthy, djenepo, Mara) who are the squad filler that needs ridding but we’re unlikely to be able to move on.

Can't see us getting rid of Bree or Mara and no idea about Larios. Djenepo and McCarthy I'll grant you

Now might be a good time for people who think we have sold him too cheaply to say as such.

Personally, I was concerned about his defending - he ball watched badly - but thought we'd get a few seasons to see him work that out. Not sure he is the next Bale, but would of liked the chance to find out.

I think the money we got was decent. Shame Chelsea get so much of it, but the £4m fee we got him for would have been a lot more without the sell on clause

Agreed the players we really would like to keep are

JWP, Tella, Sulemana, KWP, Lavia, Alcaraz

So that's six players. I think we will do well to keep two of them so we would need four quality replacements imo.

I don’t think we did, I think it’s a very good deal for Saints. He may well go on to huge things but, for a 20 year old just getting over an ACL it makes massive financial sense for Saints. Plus we’re now in the Championship so keeping hold of any genuine PL quality is tough. Sad to see him go but that is too high a sum for a club in our position to turn down. FWIW I always thought when we lost Mane, Lallana, MS etc that we extracted the right sum for them at the time. I see this the same.

Tino £40M (£25M)

Salisu €20M (£17M)

DCC €5 guaranteed (£4.25M)

Diallo €5-8M (£4.25/6.5M)

Orsic €4M (£3.5M)

So thats a total of £53Million.. and you'd expext us to sale possibly,

Lyanco, KWP, Perraud, ABK, JWP, Lavia, Aribo, Djenepo, Adams and Onuachu.

Where did you get the Diallo figure from? Can't find any reports including his price.

It's hard to know who'll go I think. I reckon we took a haircut on Orsic and Diallo (ie fee covering wages shortfall for the balance of the contract period, or something like that) and I wouldn't be surprised to see us find a way to cut out losses on others. The next few weeks are going to be interesting, but I'm confident we'll go into September in good shape squad wise.

Yep they be watching the game especially for Bazunu to make a mistake. It happen to know a Saints “fan “ who had a passionate hatred for Ralph.

He felt he was finally vindicated when Ralph was sacked.

We'll have the numbers, but the quality is obviously decreasing. There should be enough to be competitive, it just falls on the manager to create a proper team.
