No it isn't. Their attitude goes beyond what their football team has won. It permeates their whole society, as can be seen the numerous times they have caused issues at grounds over the years (eg Heysel), but it is never their fault. They are always victims, always owed something by somebody

In fairness we had Smallbone at No.6 for large swathes of that game, and as nice and tidy as he is on the ball he really isn’t suited as a DM

That said, if we play a backline THAT high then we’ll need more than just a decent DM there.. it was absolutely suicidal at times

Fuck sake. £15m was a great deal for him given his contract. Would’ve been the 2023 Vestergaard and given us a bit more flexibility.

That’s Lyanco and Salisu. These centre-backs are cursed.

Annoying to have Lyanco and Salisu deals collapse when both were seemingly decent for us.

Imagine we have CB targets but can't really justify signing any when we have 6 senior ones on the books and no real signing of getting rid of any.

Hopefully our targets continue to be patient...

Bednarek and Stephens are two of the worst CBs I can think of in terms of being able to play in a high line. Both seem ok when defending deep, but stick them in a high line and you're asking for trouble.

I did think it was a weird link, as Fulham are supposedly looking for a ball playing centre back. Which, with all due respect, I'm not sure anyone would describe Salisu as even on his best day.

Being brought up on a Liverpool overspill council estate, 20 miles from Liverpool and with a Liverpool born father, I think I am likely in a better position than most to have a view. They are generally shithouses who present 90% of all the stereotypes we associate with them. My dad was there for 2 days before being brought up in Southampton (his mum was Liverpool through and through) and he thinks less of them than me. Obviously a lot depends on personal experience and some are really decent but generally speaking, they are bell ends.

I was in Liverpool recently. My first time there. I went into a pub and there was a pub quiz just starting. I wasn't that bothered but joined in anyway, just for something to do really. There were 40 questions in total. For a laugh, I answered all 40 questions alternately, with "The Beatles" and "Stevie Gerrard".

Answer 1 - The Beatles

Answer 2 - Stevie Gerrard

Answer 3 - The Beatles

Answer 4 - Stevie Gerrard...........and so on for all 40 questions..................

I came second!!!!

I have family in Liverpool and have visited the city for many years.
It took quite a while for improvements to be put in place post the destruction after WW2 and then the Toxteth riots.
UK and EU money worth between £1 billion and £2 billion plus some money put into developments financed by shady drug money from the city gangsters and Irish speculators has seen vast improvements in the city centre but not so much in the suburbs.
I would say that 50% of the population are funny, decent people with good hearts.
20% are OK whilst 30% are quite a nasty bunch with criminal backgrounds.
The city centre is full of imposing buildings, well worth a visit.
Some of the outer areas are a bit like Beirut.
All in all though I have always enjoyed my visits but have a fair idea of places to avoid.

I've questioned since the season end who'd want him and play him regularly. If it's not west ham, I really can't see where he'd go. Fulham perhaps, but would he really offer more than Harrison Reed apart from the free kicks? Where else?

Opening bid so obviously just a starting point but expect it will happen. He is too good to waste a (tournament) year in the Championship and everyone glosses over the financials too from his perspective.

We have been relegated, we will need to sell some players and particularly our highest earners so sooner it happens the better (assuming a good offer ends up being made).

So they want our captain, England international and one of the best free kick takers in the world for £10m less than they paid for Scamacca, or £5m less than Leicester paid for Daka. I needed a laugh today.

Surely he can't go for 25 - seems too low considering he has a good few seasons left in him and an unbelievable work rate inside of him. I really hope the club fight west ham to the last straw on a decent price - he deserves It more than any other departing players tbh.

The only way I'd even begin contemplating a £25m offer is if it had Flynn Downes coming the other way on a permanent basis. Otherwise it's an immediate no. I think if they get to £35m (assuming they do a straight up cash offer) I would consider that fair enough, if it were to be accepted.

I was content with JWP going and getting £30m+ for him. After seeing how RM used him in the Reading game as a true box-to-box I'm less inclined to let him go.

He is one of a few players we have that I trust to score goals when given the opportunity. It appears that RM will be giving him those opportunities in this system.

He has averaged 9 goals per year in the PL the last few seasons when playing much deeper in the double pivot. I could see him doubling those goal numbers playing this system in the Championship.

I'd be doing whatever we could to keep him. I didn't feel that way a month ago.
