Shock horror as player is tapped on the back! Could have killed him!

First things first, Caleta-Car was daft to touch the player in the box after the ball was gone........though he was pushed by the Grimsby lad first.........after the ball had gone.

How that is a foul when you compare the violence with which KWP was flattened by a shoulder charge in the first half, or Pope's poleaxing of Djenepo in the EFL Cup semi 1st leg and no foul is given?  Mockery of common sense.

You can book a player for 'simulating' a foul.  Why don't referees book players for 'simulating' a foul when they are touched lightly by another player and throw themselves to the floor?

McCoist on the commentary doesn't help with his, 'he has a right to go down' bullexcrement.

Was the penalty for the tap or for the fact he was trying to rip his shirt off his back?

I think it was the tap, pulling started outside the area and the replay they claimed was the foul was that of him tapping him on the back

I thought the passage of play had stopped and the slight little prod was an off the ball incident, since when do off the ball incidents warrant anything other than a card or talking to?

100% this.

I could have understood if DCC got a red card, but why was a penalty given?

I get the focus being on our performance but that second penalty was an absolute farce in every way. If McCarthy had the ball in his hands and DCC had done that on the halfway line, would the ref have moved the ball up there for a free kick? Not a chance. Every game these things happen and the game gets stopped, players get a talking to, play restarts from the keeper. It was obviously a stupid reaction from DCC but if every player got penalised for stupid reactions we’d have 4 red cards a game and penalties every 10 minutes.

The ball was in McCarthy's hands a the time that the two players tapped each other. Then the referee decided to give a penalty but I never heard a whistle to stop play.

If McCarthy had any sense he would have sent the ball downfield and got play going again but I suppose nobody ever though the referee would be so pathetic.

Anyone got a video clip of the assault on KWP?

Fact of the matter is that an international footballer of considerable experience shouldn't be getting riled up by a League 2 player or responding like that.

You can ill afford to give away 'nothing' penalties at any level. Let alone when our attack is so utterly toothless.

He made two decent saves, one as the penalty was awarded and a one-on-one in the second half. Didn't get near either penalty but that's not really something to bash a keeper with.

Totally agree. Absolutely ridiculous from DCC. I would have substituted him immediately and put him with the U18s for a month.

Thanks Matty, I know he is not good with his feet but to my mind I want someone who stops goals and not so worried about a fancy dan who can pass the ball.

IMHO I think he is a better bet at present than Baz

Yep. He also has previous in these situations with 17/18 where he was POTY I think and had a number of brilliant displays in the run in. I'd have him in for the rest of the season as well.

He was pretty awful last year so we were absolutely right to try and replace, but we just somehow fucked that up and downgraded, similar to Ralph and Jones.

I guess if Caleta-Car had dived first when he was more firmly tapped on the back, there would have been no penalty. The lesson, as is often reiterated on Match of the Day, is that if you feel contact in the penalty area, you have to go down.  It's very silly ( a bit like a Monty Python sketch) but, unfortunately, that's the way it is nowadays.

Honesty rarely pays.
