Not much else to cling onto now.

Very much our last best hope of challenging for European qualification. 😅

I can see this being a very different starting eleven, maybe a few kids on the bench, but I don’t see it being high scoring in the slightest. I’d honestly take a 2-0 win now.

Prediction: 2-0 or 2-1. It’ll be close like the Lincoln game.

Predicted XI:
McCarthy; Lyanco, DCC, Bednarek, Perraud; Djenepo, JWP, Alcaraz, Orsic; Armstrong, Mara

I think the likes of Stu Armstrong, Onuachu, Sulemana, Lavia etc will all be on the bench or rested.

Think Luton would have a better run in Europe than we would.

I don't think we'll see many youngsters, there's a FA Youth Cup 1/4 final away to Preston on Thursday evening they'll mostly be involved in that.

Agree mostly with that team, probably rest Perraud and have Djenepo left back, shame we can't play Bree, I think Aribo and Walcott will get some minutes should be about their level

Play the team that you intend to play at the weekend. Get them on the field together and get a win under their belts.
If there’s question marks (hopefully elyonoussi and Bednarak) then play the alternative and see how they perform. We need to find a formula and some consistency.

I’d try

             McCarthy

AMN   ABK   Salisu/DCC KWP

           Lavia   JWP

Stu       Alcaraz     Kamaldeen

             Onuachu

Shame 🥳

Who am I going to blame now?

I mean I’m sure Alex McCarthy will get beaten at his near post at some point.

Lyanco I’m sure will misplace a pass or fifty to the opposition.

Joe Aribo walking side to side like a table football player.

The opportunities are endless 😁

Selles has said there will absolutely be rotation, as he doesn’t want the players to be burnt out for the weekend. He hinted that it’s not out of the question for the whole team to change, I reckon he won’t quite go that far but it’ll be largely a complete change. Personally I’d go with…..

Willy

KWP - DCC - Salisu - Perraud

Diallo - JWP - Alcaraz

Sulemana - Mara - Edozie

Im liking this. Only change I'd make is McCarthy for Willy. Break him back into the starting lineup and then start him at the weekend ahead of Baz

Fat fucking chance of that with the lack of effort some of our ‘elite’ players put in. 🤣

Orsic won't be able to play if he was out with concussion, think concussion protocols are 10 days.

Would like to see Alcaraz, DCC start. I don't think we should move too much from what Ruben wants to go with at Leicester they need to start gelling a confidence boosting few goals from open play would be nice.

Personally I would start PO and Sule to get them match fit. I’d be tempted to try Adams and PO together up top to see if that could work as well. Basically we need to remember how to score goals, have we scored 3 in a game this year yet?!

Cambridge away. Other than that I’m struggling.

What's nuts is that other than Diallo for Lavia that looks better than our "premier league first choice" team.

That B team is probably better than the team that played Saturday, obvs no Latvia but the rest of it shows how interchangeably rubbish the rest of our squad is. Maybe that’s the secret of our non-success, we employ two B teams and can’t put out a decent first XI?

I agree with this. Apart from Perraud and Stu A. who would probably struggle to play Wednesday and then Saturday, the rest should be up for it and get a team together that knows each other's games and strengths (😏). Surely they can practice through balls, running in to space, one-twos and just creating openings/scoring opportunities.

Having got a ticket for the game I’d be delighted to see what this line up can achieve, even if it is against a lower league team. Having said that, I’m under no illusion that Grimsby have the advantage of a consistent side that know each other’s games and will play like it’s the final. Indeed sadly it wouldn’t surprise me to see us lose 1-2 after going in 1-0 up at half-time. We shall see.

Must admit, the games I've seen us play this season against lower league opposition (Sheff Wed & Blackpool), we've really struggled, and that's with more or less our first team. I lost faith in Poch after he put our B team out to play Sunderland. I hope Ruben doesn't do the same.

If I was Selles trying to prove my squad iI would be playing the top 11 .. who ever he thinks they are , he could sacked by Thursday sacked well

Now whats the International dialing code for Austria once again ?

Which is hugely frustrating as it means the same team will be playing again this weekend.  We've tried not changing a winning team (one measly win!), so I guess we should also try not changing a losing team :mcinnes:

Selles said in his press conference he wanted us to play through the lines by passing and moving, playing tall Paul give the players an easy out by just lumping it forward to use his height advantage, I fear his signing maybe the final nail in our coffin (not his fault) as the team is low in confidence they dont want to play a risky pass so we simply revert to Jones ball. For this game i would like to see this team

Willy

KWP - DCC - Salisu - Perraud

Diallo - JWP - Alcaraz

Sulemana - Mara - Djenepo

Then for the Leicester game replace Diallo with Lavia and Djenepo with Stu A

I’d agree Armstrong had a bad game but my feeling was, at least he tried. Yeah he couldn’t beat his man often, nothing came off and he missed our best chance of the game but at least he tried to beat his man and created a chance. Who else in the attacking third can we say that of?

might being the key word here, even against league 2 grimsby

Don't be so spineless, we'll  win this match easily probably by around 5-0. It may not help us much in the league but  will do wonders for the fans.

Would be doubly delicious if Ballard gets a run out.

What, like how we played Lincoln off the park?

I'd probably focus on getting Sulemana and Onuachu some more minutes/a good performance under their belts. It's not like we've been running them into the ground seeing as they're typically coming off at around the 60th minute each week.

Caballero
Lyanco - DCC - Salisu - KWP
Alcaraz - Diallo - Aribo
Edozie - Onuachu - Sulemana

Shame that Bree is cup-tied, and the concussion comes at a bad time for Orsic who needed this game massively. Hopefully Ballard/Dibling get a spot on the bench as well.

Actually makes sense to give Onuachu and Sulemana a chance to build an understanding and maybe even score a goal.

Leave Ballard and Dibling to focus on FA Youth Cup on Thursdays trip to Preston, they've done well would be a shame to go out of that competition missing some of their better players with the first team

Grandad , The reason we are here is because the club made no signings in the summer thus condeming Ralph

I trust you are quite content with the clubs football management since Ralphs departure .. Just when do your alarm bells start ringing

Maybe when we are in the championship ... It`ll be to late by then mate .

Nope. I blame Ralph. We have been poor since before last summer.

When you say “the club’s football management since Ralph’s departure” I include the management before he was sacked. Their big failure was not releasing him earlier and the even bigger failure was choosing the wrong replacement.

I hear no alarm bells because the prospect of the Championship carries no fears for me.

That's not a good thing, it means he'll play at the weekend because he'll be rested.

Now you've torn it...

Luton are only a few places below us in the league and Grimsby knocked them out last round so definitely not a foregone conclusion.

Ticket sales still look terrible, I doubt the board care but they should take note in this round last year we had 28,383 at home to West Ham , will be a good 10k less a year later, a lot of fans giving up.

Not using this as an excuse, but the ridiculous kick off time and the fact that it's a Wednesday will have meant some won't be able to make the game. Absolutely crazy that the FA still persist with Round 5 games on a week day.
