If Nathan Jones had have wanted us to play on the front foot (and be aggressive) then maybe he should have said so…

He wanted to be potent, not aggressive.....big difference.

I really hope we don’t overhype Selles.

It was one win against a struggling Chelsea. Let’s see where we are after next 6 games.

Of course we all want him to do well but it’s getting so over hyped after Jones debacle.

Fingers crossed for 3 more Saturday it will be tougher test than last week

It was struggling Southampton against struggling Chelsea. Let's not make out only they were struggling.

Before his sacking and following the 3-0 defeat to Brentford, Jones spoke about going back to basics. For this group of players, high-pressing, transition-based, aggressive football is them going back to basics.

We'll never know now (thankfully) but I wonder how "basic" Jones' "back to basics" would have been. He came across as someone who would have considered the tactics of Wimbledon's 1980s Crazy Gang  the peak of sophistication. Having said that, it did win them an FA Cup.

We're at our best when we are aggressive and on the front-foot. It was the foundation of Hasenhüttl's side previously and Sellés brought that back this weekend. This piece takes a look at how Sellés lined up the side and the tactical approach used in the win over Chelsea.

Really I thought we won because of a JWP special

Yes, I think those who avoid the swaying in the wind approach to supporting the club and manager are being level headed and sensible in their expectations. Let’s not forget that it was not so long ago we were talking of inevitable relegation at the hands of an incompetent manager and a nice, but failed one before that (in Ralph). We’re still bottom of the table with a huge, almost incomprehensible mountain to climb to survive.

We may not succeed yet.  What Selles has done is shown what CAN and MIGHT be achieved with the squad at his disposal. Our squad. The best we can do now is to support them as best we can and hope that’s enough. If not…well we gave it our best shot and hopefully we start again.

But there’s Leeds first. Let’s just get behind RS and the team completely.
