saintsray Posted 20 February, 2023 Share Posted 20 February, 2023 As you may have heard, Dickie Davies had died aged 94. He attended Saints matches on and off over the years, and lived not far from Andover. He also started his career with Southern TV, and was based in Southampton until his move to World of Sport in 1968. (Oddly enough his stand-in host at WoS was Chief Skate Fred Dinenage....!) The picture on his wikipedia page seems to have been taken at St Mary's. Anyway, a fine broadcaster, and apparently a lovely bloke too. RIP.

Always looked forward to seeing him after Tiswas to introduce Saint and Grievesy and give us updates as the afternoon went. Ij the 80s I think I looked like his son with my curley hair and 'tach Great broadcaster sorely missed.

John Boy Saint Posted 20 February, 2023 Share Posted 20 February, 2023 Who else has the World of Sport theme tune playing in their heads reading this. 4pm off to Wrestling with Big Daddy, Mick McManus, Giant Haystacks then at 4:45 wait eagerly for the teleprinter and Saints result - all read out in his unmistakable voice. 94 is a good innings RIP
