It’s obvious given all the positive PR that’s come out this week around Selles and the team loving him that he’ll get the job. It’s just a case of if it’ll be til the end of season or longer.

I agree but if it's that certain, why not just announce it??

I emailed Arsene Wenger from a past comment, I know him from his charity work, he says he is not coming to Southampton, he is going to retire after his current role with Fifa, but he wishes you all good luck and says he has admired Southampton for a long time for their player development over the years 👍

You guys I am a single ID poster .. Obviously ruffled a few feathers with my pro Ralph posts .. But I say again he never had us in a relegation fight and hello .. he`s gone and instantly Saints are back to old territory ... So fans that wanted him gone can carry some of the blame here . I don`t expect this to be a popular view but its no not rocket science either ... Take a good look at yourselves ...

Fabrizio Romano says:

🚨 Understand Southampton have decided to give Rubén Sellés the chance to be the manager until the end of the current season. He will be the head coach to replace Neil Jones. #SaintsFC

Rubén Sellés has convinced the club with his ideas and work, he's set to stay.

I would add screenshot but no idea how.

Who the fuck is Neil Jones?  Have we appointed and sacked another Manager already?

@Scoobysaintjust cut and paste the url of the tweet (which you can get by clicking on the time of the tweet) into the forum. The site auto embeds the tweet.

I'd be surprised if we announce this now.  Sellers is already effectively in post and we may as well see how he does over a few games before making a decision

He's only got a deal to the end the season, so better to announce it now while his stock is high and there us a general consensus that this is a good idea.

if we see how he does "after a few games" and he loses them all, then what are we announcing - he's got the job anyway, or that he's sacked, or what. After "a few games" no one else is going to come in to manage 10 games to relegation. Get it announced and let's see how these final games go.

I get the viewpoint, but if he does lose the next few we would still have time (barely) to bring somebody else in.  He's managed one game, in which we admittedly got a very good win.  No-one else is going to pinch him at this point, so better to keep things as they are for me atm.

People wanted Jones out after 2 games, and now people are set on Selles being the messiah after 1 game.  If Jones' first game was the city win everyone would have been creaming themselves about what a manager we had, however the reality was very different.  Hopefully Selles has more about him, but we don't know that yet.

I won't be unhappy with Selles to the end of the season, I just don't see the advantage in announcing now

We were 100% in a relegation battle under Ralph this season. That continued almost a year of relegation form. Ralph had lost the players. We have moved on.

I’d suggest it’s more nuanced than winning a game. Jones, despite a sign that he had turned things around with a week of good results, then seemed to lose the plot, wasn’t level headed and just confirmed he was not really cut out for the mental demands of the Prem that go beyond being a good coach.

Selles, in comparison, seems level headed, demanding but also someone who appreciates the work of others.

We shall see how it all works out but he looks more attuned to top flight football than Jones ever did.

Selles has seen what's been going on all season, good and bad. Any new face would have none of that advantage and there's not enough time left for a new guy to learn it Pity Selles wasn't given the chance when RH left....all that World Cup break wasted

You can say it as much as you like pet, but even your messiah thinks it’s pony.

Nathan is going to be in for one heck of a shock when he turns up to take over. 🙂

Makes sense, nobody is going to blame Ruben when we get relegated so it gives him what's left of this season to show what he can do.  Reassess at the end of the season and if we find it didn't work we go our separate ways, and bring somebody new in for next season.

This guy seems like the sort Ankersen would appoint. Also perhaps it explains the absence of MLG from this forum? 🤔

Many people would describe Will Still as young, hungry and guaranteed to improve. High praise if you feel that applies to MLG :)

He is a West Ham fan who used to play FM, as a kid. One to watch, definitely.

He was on GMB yesterday comes across as a really lovely bloke, I expect the egos in the premier league wouldn’t give him a chance
