JWP needs to answer a lot of questions IMO. He is one of the only consistent faces in the group which has lost two games 9-0, collapsed in many other games and has captained the team to have the worst season in our history.

I'm not discounting his ability, as his free kicks and technical ability on the ball is top draw - but as an on field leader I think he's been a disgrace, he's led us through a period where we simply have no backbone. I can't imagine captains of the past letting the situation get like this (Fonte/Hammond/VVD etc). He is out of his depth as a captain of this group in my opinion.

I agree, he is a terrible captain. I actually cannot remember when I saw him doing anything that looked like leadership. But that tells me that nobody else wants the job and I don't hold it against him at all.

If there was anybody willing to step up, he should give up the armband immediately. We've badly missed one or more leaders on the pitch for several seasons.

I hope he takes some time to reflect, become a calmer, more rounded person and sort his head out. It must be depressing to be Nathan Jones right now sat there staring at the wall with your missus trying to act as if you haven't utterly failed.

Surely he's taken his photos home and hung them there for the said staring and reflection?

I'm sure a quick log on to his bank account will cheer him up no-end.

I wish him well and hope he learns from the whole episode. I think he needs some support with what appears to be some crippling anxiety.

I think if he could get over the imposter syndrome that would really help too.

Wrong person for us but should never have been in the job in the first place.

I don’t wish ill on anyone and hope he comes through this and picks up his career. When appointed I was on-side even though I felt it was a horror appointment. The scary thing is he seemed to learn absolutely nothing from his experience at Stoke but in that case and in this he was a fish out of water and perhaps should have had the courage of his summer convictions and realised he still wasn’t ready for Premier League management and turned the job down despite the SR overtures. They are seriously culpable in this having massaged Mad Nate’s ego to the point where he sadly came over in the Prem spotlight as being unhinged.

Sadly the suspected Jones shared password family account hasn’t been active on SWF since he was sacked so won’t read our messages

Whilst I’m extremely happy to see the back of him I don’t doubt that he’ll get another job in the lower leagues and his tenure at Saints has no doubt set him up for life financially!

My biggest issue with him is his ego and with that in mind I don’t particularly wish him well although I can’t say that I wish him badly either !

If I never hear of him or see him again I won’t be in any way unhappy !!

Probably telling her how lucky he is, she could be a welsh girl living in a mining village married to a PE teacher.

I don’t doubt that his huge sense of self-worth will help him through, but if not I hope his mental health doesn’t suffer…nobody should wish that on anyone else. The pay-out compensation should help soften the blow a bit too, however once he starts the search for something new the reality of having to fish in a lower grade pond will be hard. I primarily blame SR for appointing him in the first place - a huge mistake - so don’t hold any malice towards NJ.

JWP may wear the armband but there's absolutely nothing stopping other players from shouting/encouraging/organising. The real problem is a lack of senior quality at centre back / DM

Caleta-Car is the obvious candidate, surely?? World Cup runner up, 26 and over 250 senior appearances, and seems to have plenty about him

You would think. I don't know much about his personality or leadership qualities though

Yep, thinking back to Hammon and Fonte and when I played. Having someone who can organise the defence, understands the game and has visibility of most of the pitch is such a bonus.

Southampton's Diallo: I'm sad for sacked Jones

Southampton midfielder Ibrahima Diallo says he was 'sad' for Nathan Jones following his sacking by the club.

You can back the wrong horse, Ibra!

I bet he's sad ashe got picked despite abysmal performances.! He knows whoever comes in might not be so favourable to choosing him in the team

I recall when Harry first came he said then that we had a very quiet dressing room. No real characters. Seeing the abysmal defending and own goals is another reminder of that season

The original interview between Rio and Ashley Williams was available on Twitter and Rio’s YouTube channel. It was fierce. In his first talk with the Stoke players he just went on about his success at Luton. The players went out to do training and were saying “ he hasn’t told us how he wants to play. Williams was fuming in the interview swearing the lot.

I would imagine the original interview has been taken down.

I would imagine the ordinal interview has been taken down.

Williams said that the dressing room had several players, with lots of Premier League experience in it.

He and Ryan Shawcross were very different types of centre half. They expected Jones to at least tell them which of the approaches he preferred, and to get them working towards that.

Williams said that instead, Jones said he wasn't going to coach players at that level. The Stoke players just looked at each other and wondered what he was there for. Now Jones may we'll have just meant that players at Premier League level should already know the basics.  But Williams went on to say that Jones backed off of making any of those decisions all through his spell, struggled to deal with the players, and that the tactics were confused.

Sadly a template for what we got.

The lesson should have already been learned from his stoke experience though, it's nonsense that we thought it would be any different.

For a club that prides it's self in due diligence and 'contacts' in the game to sound out decisions they decided to not bother with any of that on this one. It's a one person appointment, no matter what anyone else says. Ankerson liked him, ticked the stats boxes, anyone else who disagreed was shot down.

If the majority of the fan base had the same questions when he was appointed you can almost gaurentee there were voices at the club sharing the same concerns, but they were ignored to fulfil someones ego.

The club prides itself on these things, but the reality is it’s all talk. All puff. It’s empty platitudes over and over again. We’re rammed full of talkers, not doers.

There’s so many people on the staff as well as players mugging a living it’s unreal. Empty vacuous statements with zero substance behind it, all to fool a lot of the fans who believe they’ve bought into a club that know what their doing.

They haven’t known their a55 from their elbows for almost a decade now, it’s embarrassing.

Its absolutely fucking ridiculous that the board made this utter cretin their choice.

I honestly still can’t get over it. It was so hilariously obvious that he was useless. Unbelievable.

One of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen from a PL club. I assume the only reason Ankersen is still about is because of his ownership stake. Because if he’s an employee he should be sacked immediately.

Then  why don’t you? Other than the fact you have money, a nice car and a big house. Probably the reason I don’t live in the maritious or some place like it.

one positive of Mad Nath. I got to see an away win at  Goodson 😂😂

A proud Welshman, who rose from humble beginnings in a small village, to be an internationally acclaimed superstar, not only in Europe, but worldwide, winning countless awards along the way. To listen to him, his voice resonates pure class and has only matured with age. He is without doubt one of the greatest of all t.......sorry, I thought you said Sir Tom Jones.

Nathan Jones you say? Nah, he was just a clusterfuck of a football manager.
