Southampton 1-0 Arsenal 16 Apr 2022 But you are off course right in highlighting our dismal record and that is why I have thought we are going to be relegated since September
LuckyNumber7 Posted 7 February, 2023 Share Posted 7 February, 2023 I remember coming out of SMS after beating Norwich in late February feeling on a bit of a high as we were in good form and playing pretty well. It really is shocking how things have totally unraveled since that Villa game. Our home form in particular, not just in that period but in the last 6 years generally has been utterly abysmal so it's no wonder the atmosphere at home games is so poor. Fans need hope and belief and it feels like an age since we had either of those.

It wasn't like we haven't bounced back from savage beatings before. This time though all the confidence drained out of the players. I do though tend to blame the yellow and blue scarves handed out at Villa Park as bringing bad luck.
Saint_clark Posted 7 February, 2023 Share Posted 7 February, 2023 Was it the villa game where Ralph suddenly made a load of changes to a side that had been in good form and we never looked the same again?

Yes. I was at the game and couldn’t believe what was going on in respect of team selection, the tactics and ultimately the result. We just seemed to go off a cliff and we’ve never recovered. It’s baffling really as, like others allude to, our form was decent up until then.
MAY-Z Posted 8 February, 2023 Share Posted 8 February, 2023 (edited) I raised this on one of the 7 billion other threads and it really is remarkable it’s not as through there was the odd win leading up to the villa game, there was consistent good form, unbeaten in previous 5 which included draw at old Trafford, draw against city and that win at spurs. Some top class performances in that lot. And when you look at it, that win against arsenal was one of the luckier wins we have had, no way do win that with Baz in goal. from the previous win against Norwich to the loss against villa the only changes were Salisu out for Stephens and KWP out for Perraud the fa cup game was in between and there were lots of changes made for that match. so 100% there has to be what lost Ralph the dressing room in between those matches, and he didn’t just loose them down the back of the sofa, he accidentally mailed them to Siberia never to be found again. man’s this is also why I don’t buy the “Ralph was hamstrung by the board not getting players” primarily the same players are here missing from that run are Forster (obviously miles ahead of Baz, but Ralph backing McCarthy earlier led to FF wanting out) Romeu who was aging Broja who had stopped scoring by then anyway Tino, who was to be replaced by KWP and the magical lucky charm S Armstrong. but all of these apart from tino were there throughout the rest of the season free fall, which again says something had to have happened behind the scenes to suddenly make the entire group disappear when did Ralph give that odd interview about looking towards retirement? Just going to raise this again; what happened to this club after that Norwich win and before the Villa loss truly can’t be believed We seem to have a lot of people who knew everytime someone farted when Jones was in charge, anyone have any idea what went on this fortnight
Badger Posted 1 March, 2023 Share Posted 1 March, 2023 Thought about this tonight. Last year, 5th Round FA Cup we peaked, beat West Ham after a good run of form. Rapid and continuing decline since.

Yeah, and as I put up above the core of that team is still here and they were all there for the end of last season. it just makes no sense that they have all (probably apart from JWP) regressed so far so quickly
