I don't think it can, anything which happens now is surely in spite of the manager given how he's thrown everyone under the bus. As much as I hate knee-jerk and fickle nonsense, I cannot see how his position can be tenable for any longer after his performance yesterday, both in game and after game.

The three wins on the trot didn't.

So if it is Jonesball I would expect this side

                  Baz

Bree ABK Bednerak Salisu KWP

                    Lavia

        JWP                Solly

                  Alcatraz
                  Big Paul

I’d also expect a 0-2 defeat

He is not so bad that he would only play with 10…..

We might do better with 11 players, but maybe not.

No he will say it takes time for the players to learn a new system and he's only just started with them. In a way you can't really count any of the games prior to February because that was when he was pandering to other people.

That's exactly it. He's the annoying wankish tit in the pub that can never be wrong. People just avoid wankstains like this.

If he's still here I'm going to be fascinated to see who he plays and how he sets up. That should give us a good indication of where he feels he's been held back.

Agree, I’m curious to see how things will be different next Saturday.

Jones really won't help himself if he doesn't field some of the new attacking signings from the start in this one, like most I don't understand why he didn't start them yesterday ( che's fault for scoring at Newcastle is the only reason I can see ) but it does seem to be the way with manager's.. But when your as shit and toothless as we are and totally dependent upon dead ball situations it makes no sense at all in my thinking.

I can see us being as bad here as we were against Forest. That game felt odd to me. We set up and attacked the game strangely. I wouldn't be surprised if that was NJ's way, which he has decided he is going to finally stick to after three months.

This is providing he hasn't the trigger pulled on him by then, of course. One can only hope. First game in years me and a good mate have been to together, but it's getting very hard to look forward to watching us.

Cleary we've got a big fella and quick fella up front so the formation is:

                           Bazunu

Bree Lyanco Bednarek Salisu ABK Perraud

                     JWP       Diallo

                    Sulemana

                            Onuachu

                       walcott

That's the kind of blue sky lateral thinking we need in our current league position. Statistically that side is going to create more chances than any club in the top flight.

Can’t see Jones being here for this one…he’s blown his credibility with the squad. If by some chance however the Board decide to let him commit career suicide then it’s going to be an ugly affair with a significant loss. We’re down and relegated already thanks to ineffective management top to bottom in the club, so in some respects the result is irrelevant, but watching the slow and painful demise of my football club will be hard to take.  Wolves to win comfortably 0-3 (possibly worse).

I don't think it matters whether Jones goes or stays - the group of players Saints have put together over the last few years just isn't good enough to compete in the Premier League, so I am fully expecting us to get battered on Saturday.

Yes Nath is a bit mental and seems to be out of his depth (his comments on the weekend confirm that) - but I genuinely believe that the group we have now are too inexperienced and/or beaten down by years of losing week after week that no one would have come in turned this around.

0-4.

We were competing just fine before Jones got here and that was without any of our January signings or (for the most part) Lavia. A competent manager can keep this squad up, it’s just a question of whether we get one.

I don't think we've competed at all this season to be honest, we look far and away the worst team in the league over the course of the season.

I think SR have just tried to do way too much too soon. We haven't been perfect for many years, but surely you take a few tentative steps first and build on what's there - but they have without question ripped up the foundations and started again way too soon. I don't think we've got bad players, it's similar to Forest in a way - there's no team, just a bunch of individuals right now being led by someone who is not respected.

Exactly. Not hard is it. Even ABK could come in there and there wouldn't be much change in quality.

If Jones is adamant at playing three at the back, then a 343 of

Any GK

ABK DCC Salisu

KWP JWP Lavia Perraud

Sulemana Big Paul Orsic

Wouldn't be terrible. Ultimately though play the best personnel in their best positions.

Wont happen though. Wolves for the win.

I’m now hanging on to the hope that Man City get expelled from the league leaving only two relegation spots available.( they have numerous financial irregularities dating back to 2009 under investigation)
yes..we are dire and it’s desperate.

the atmosphere will be toxic toward Jones if he’s still the gaffer.

Surely after his post match comments the board have to pull the trigger?  If he send a team out on the weekend they are likely to loose on purpose just to get shot of him and if by some miracle we win can you imagine what the puffed up little nobody is going to say to the media then?  his fired his bolt, blown the opportunity of a lifetime and should recede back into the lower leagues to make a career out of hoof ball and bigging himself up.

Competing just fine? We were 90th out of 92 for points per game in 2022.

Really looking forward to this game. All outcomes lead to lots of drama and interest for the fans.

1. Jones has gone and we have a new manager.

2. Jones stays and we lose (toxic).

3. Jones stays and we draw (confusion with some light toxicity).

4. Jones stays and we win (Mixed emotions for many).

The football is secondary to the storylines, it's like wrestling but with slightly less steroids.

Going to be difficult for Jones to pick DCC and Orsic.  They both obviously think, quite rightly, that Jones is a complete cunt.  I would imagine Lavia does as well.

Beyond stupid that he hasn't been sacked yet.

Not saying it will happen, and am sure it won't, but I wonder what happens if any other the squad actually refuse to play?

Is the PC for this on Thursday?

The thought of letting Nathan Jones out ever again to speak in public on behalf of Southampton club should be something that terrifies the current board. Given how thin skinned he is and the attention he's just brought on himself he's going to need a minder from now on.

I honestly can't see him coming out and being anything other than prickly, defensive and bitter.

Yeah its going to be a great watch. I would imagine he has been told to swallow his pride and show a little humility otherwise you wont get a chance to try and turn it around on Saturday. Think it will be a very non event with him giving stock answers to questions. Im not confident that  he will be able to manage that if enough pressing questions over his style are thrown at him.

I don't see him swallowing his pride. The press will be there to push his buttons if he tries.

I imagine something like "did you underestimate the size of the step up in moving from Luton would be so big?" or "why haven't you been able to impose your style in 3 months?" would set him off.

And heaven forbid the self righteous explosion of Perry point scoring if we actually won on Saturday.

The thing is the club knew exactly what they were getting they knew he was prickly defensive and bitter from his Luton and stoke time... They can't be surprised at his comments

Based on how Jones set up at Luton Prior, It was a 3 4 2 1. With WBs and im guessing Inverted style wingers.

So i could see a line up like this if everyone is fit.

Bazunu;
Lyanco, DCC, Salisu;
KWP, Lavia, JWP, Perraud;
Edozie, Sulemana;
Paul.

He'll include Janny B and Bree for certain.

A few of the usual media suspects were on a "twitter spaces" chat yesterday, essentially a live podcast, discussing Jones' continued appointment, and one of the people listening at one point was Romeo Lavia...
