Duje Caleta-Car - Official: Loan to Lyon

Why does he seemingly get a lot less opportunities than other players we have signed? Even under Ralph he didn't get much. He's always seemed pretty good I've thought when he's played and I think he deserves more of an extended run in the team considering how poor our backline have been this year. He's certainly a better option at the back than Lyanco and I'm assuming the fact he's playing today means that he won't be starting tomorrow.

Assume this is all to do with Jones saying a few weeks ago that DCC should "concentrate more on being a defender than a footballer"? (Paraphrasing)

Or maybe DCC wasn’t happy that he didn’t start Tuesday night, when 3 car crashes did. I don’t blame him, mid boggling.

Strange.  I'm probably in a minority but I don't think DCC has been all that great, especially considering all the hype and several windows of people clamouring for him.  Don't think he's awful but I was expecting a bit more out of him.

Having said that, he's better than Lyanco and Bednarek.  If anything it's Bednarek that needs match fitness and to get up to speed.

How did it sound then? With a wink and a boom boom at the end?

He was asked about having a bigger squad now with options and the difficulties of managing that, he responded with the above. It sounded a very generic, management answer, rather than a subtle dig at anyone.

Fair enough, seems the comment was taken out of context then.

Just done some digging...apparently the players were furious with Jones after Tuesday night, especially about his comments afterwards. Which probably explains how some have ended up in the B team. I've been told "everyone wants him gone" though not sure if thats a loose term of "everyone" or actually "everyone".

We shall see. Not a surprise.

Telling the bloke to be more of a “defender” when he’s a highly experienced International is embarrassing. All it’s meant is our CBs now just boot the ball long.

Oh please. DCC was a pile of Dog shit right the way up to having a couple of decent games for NJ.

Now the NJ out bandwagon jumps on anything it can to justify there argument. To say DCC was the best defender in the club is just bollocks. He looks slow immobile with the touch of Mason greenwood.

I agree he has looked better recently but there is clearly a reason why he was dropped midweek. He could be pissed that he was dropped, NJ may be pissed about the red card which was poor or it may be his general attitude.

Cheers for the insight SG, although seems at odds with some recent posts on here from other people saying that the players were loving Jones' approach...? (I can't remember who posted that though and they could be connected to Jones I suppose)

I thought the players were behind him, loved him apparently?

I'd have thought he'd have been delighted that DCC sacrificed himself for the good of the team by taking that booking. It was either "foul Saint-Maximin and take a second booking" or "Saint-Maximin is clean through on goal to make it 2-0 and effectively kill the tie". An absolute no-brainer of a decision.

Not from what I've been told, but who knows.

I know there was a big bust up the day before the Palace game, where Jones was basically told to scrap the back 5 by the players and other coaches.  the players thought it had happened with the City and Everton results playing a back 4, but back to sq 1 now it sounds. The players feel very let down by Jones.

This feels like it could get messy. It will only support us going down  so I hope it is not true. Thankyou for the insight though Saint Garrett

I think people are right in that DCC hasn't pulled up any tree's, but.........he's better than Lyanco, that's not even an impassioned opinion it's just pure common sense if you watch football.

How Lyanco starts ahead of him, a Croatian international experienced CB, is absolutley bonkers.

I know a lot of fans liked Lyanco for his 'passion' and grit, but at the end of the day he cannot defend for shit and is way too rash for this level. It's like Jones default mode is to work with players not very good, but they make up for it in 'aggression and passion' (i.e., most of his Luton team).

This might look silly tomorrow and he actually starts, but it looks unlikely. I imagine Bree will also be one of the first names on every team sheet now.

This was always going to happen. Some of these players are internationals (hard to believe at times I know) and they’re taking shit instructions off a lower league idiot.

DCC maybe a knob got red carded in the last game and may have been told to calm down

It's not whether he's the best defender in the club or not, it's how the fuck is he not considered to be better than Lyanco.  That's not being NJ out.

I think some of DCCs attribute are amongst the best in the club; positional sense, decision making, aerial battles and all round hard bastard.

Yes that's my worry. He wants players of limited ability who scrap for things and are passionate. It's what lower league teams are good at but it makes you look silly in the prem and is never going to work.

Our manager really is a bit of a wally....

I have tired to give him a chance but he has the persona of one of these coked up idiots wanting to fight everyone in a nightclub.....

As for tactical ability and style of football.....

Hoof it up top nonsense, 5 at the back bs......

Keep it simple Perraud on left

KWP on right

Kotchap and DCC or salisu at the back....

Why is he fielding crap players ?

I would be unhappy aswell and want this clown out...

What a crock of shite! You obviously dont know a good defender when you see one.

To say he was poor until recently is rubbish and suiting your poor Jones agenda .

Watch his positioning and number of clearances and interceptions he makes.

He was outdone by Isak but have a look at how many times Bednarek and Lyanco get done too.

Touch of Mason Greenwood give your head a wobble

He's somewhere in between. But the Jones hate is using him as a tool.

I'm frankly sick of all this shit. Would have prefered to just get relegated with Ralph.

The fan base is so fractured now, there's no joy left to be had. Three points at the weekend would just seemingly postpone the next round of shit.

What a miserable end to a pretty impressive journey.

That’s what has been said. First time I’ve heard the contrary

I know they were massively underwhelmed when he was appointed, and quite a few of them were complaining about being forced to play 5 at the back. Like I mentioned above, Supposedly there was a big bust up after the forest game and a bit of a truce that they would move forward with a back 4, but the players and coaches were absolutely furious with him after Tuesday night.

What were they specifically furious about ? The 5 or something more ?

I’m not surprised when he finally wins a few games then he can have a case to say he knows what he’s doing. Until then he looks clueless trying everything until something works

Yeah - mainly tactics, I'm sure some were angry about the choice of players, but of course others benefit. The whole way they went about the game, massive missed opportunity for the players, most of which have never played at wembley.

He took one for the team, it's not like he flew in on him and took his ankles off.  I'd say it was a team card, not an ill-disciplined one by any means.

If Jones is trying to make an example of an International CB, whilst he continues to play the erratic Lyanco, then it's a problem.

By coaches, I assume you mean Selles. The rest are his men. Who, if we’re being honest are just as under qualified as him.

Grim reading if all this is true.

I usually agree with much you post, but seriously no manager wants players of limited ability - it is a ridiculous thing to say.

I do wonder if we dont win any of them next say 4 games if he will shortly be on his way though. Pressure is firmly on.

I’m no NJ fan but, if there’s a grain of truth in this, the players don’t really like anyone, do they?
