Lyanco should be nowhere near the team but Jones is obsessed with "aggression" which is normally an attribute that lower league teams have when they are very limited and trying to compete against teams that are superior to them. It rarely ends well.

Thing is Lyanco isn't a particularly aggressive player, he's just inconsistent and shite.

I suppose tomorrow is the day that Brentford get to see what they could have been had Ankersen stayed and been given free access to a billionaire's cheque book.  Bet come full time they will be well jel!

Players win games.  Systems lose them.

Just when you thought Jones had shown himself to be the biggest fraud, he reaches new levels of clownship. Sweet Jesus if Southampton University did Masters Degrees in clownship he’d come out with a damned distinction. I’m starting to think he’s either deliberately winding us up or he’s somehow being blackmailed by the Pompey faithful to do his utmost fucking worst and get us relegated. But I bet he feels smug and righteous as he’s got a couple of lackies in the dressing room on his side telling him what a wonderful gaffer he is. #donewithjones

He’s basically saying he doesn’t have a role to play then, other than pick the best 11 and send them out there.

If he could manage to do that the fanbase would likely be a lot happier.

We simply have to start putting three points on the board... I don't want to hear any of Jones excuses, pick the strongest team with players in the correct formation in a 4-4-2 take off any underperforming players for the subs, Brentford isn't the team you want to be playing when you simply need to win!

I’m trying to give the guy a chance but every game is huge atm! We can’t have 2 of our best 3 CBs playing B Team games for minutes. How can you pick ‘Janny B’ and Lyanco over a fit, rested and available DCC. I can understand building ABK up as he’s had a couple of injuries now and needs rhythm.

Orsic has been in the building long enough now that he should be ready, Kamaldeen Sulemana is very likely not going to be involved so how can you play Orsic a day before a big game.

5 at the back, please stop. We look so bad in that shape and the players even revolt against it. We need to win games and that’s not the solution. Formations can absolutely win games, tactics is one of the main ways Jones should be contributing to our performances and earning his money. I don’t think I’ll ever like this guy (not that it’s a requirement for him to do well).

He’s had better backing than any Saints manager in history, no excuses. Please prove me wrong and be a success, our PL status relies heavily on it.

Pre-match press conference...

Jones: "Now we're back to one game a week we'll play our strongest 11 each game..."

Work permit situation for the two new players still being sorted.... wouldn't confirm if they can play tomorrow or not

Is the pc on line? I only ask as I want to get really angry. 😂

Can't believe I'm saying this after the shit of the past year but I really miss Ralph...

I find it rather irritating that having spent years selling our reserve LB to buy a striker from the Championship, we go and sack him the moment we actually look like spending a bit of money. We were playing fine under Ralph but losing games in the two six yard boxes. We were a competent striker and 'keeper short of midtable safety.

The line up will be interesting for this one. I'm suspecting that the line-up for Newcastle was more of a b-team than people are realising. Jones obviously can't admit that he threw the cup but I'm hoping for a better team for this game

Ralph definitely looking better with every passing game. People might start to realise now what a good job he did keeping us up with such limited resources

One saving grace tomorrow is the teams above us have very tough games. It’s a chance for us to close the gap but hey jones the manager is going to royally fuck it up. We have wolves next and that will be a true 6 pointer - lose tomorrow and against wolves and it becomes nigh on impossible to avoid relegation

As good a job Ralph did with such limited resources, the calendar year of 2022 performances (90th out of 92 professional teams) gets every manager on the planet the sack. We were patient as fans and the club were patient too, it had run its course no matter how much I liked him or how good a calibre of manager he was.

For me the calibre of Ralph’s replacement remains the issue. Still do feel sad about Ralph as he was the most likeable manager we’ve had in a very long time.

Ralph only looks better because Jones is so bad. He’s a good manager, but his time was up and needed to go.

The only upside to DCC playing today is that it reduces the chances of starting with 3 at the back. We can but hope.

Flipside to that is both Bednarek and Lyanco likely to be the centre half pairing. Which means Lyanco likely to get sent off and Bednarek to score an own goal.

What happened a short while ago when we won 3 games in a week? Was NJ on holiday or recovering from surgery or something and left somebody else in charge for a few days?

Jesus christ the build to this game has tuned into a karen convention, take a breath, lets see how we and the players play and then judge everyone on their performance after the game, not how you rate them before.

While I am here 2-0 to us.

At least Lyanco will be suspended for the next few games after that

I try, I try my absolute hardest to support Jones, but Jesus Christ. I just cannot. Not even being a jump on the negative wave brigade. But when a manager does so much wrong, says so much shit, how can you even be positive that we will do ANYTHING different tomorrow.

THEN PLAYS 4 senior players in a youth game, not only meaning they will be ruled out tomorrow due to fitness, but also gives away half your formation for tomorrows game!!! He’s a moron. Simply put..

Can't see why DCC has been dropped to the B team. DCC has been our best centre-back in recent months, since Jones claimed we needed to be more solid and yes he did have a poor night in the first leg against Newcastle when he got turned by a £60m forward in Isaak, but he did also need to make the professional foul that earned him a red as him and Lyanco were left exposed and facing a 2 vs 2 before Saint-Maximin had done him. Therefore, he is being treated pretty harshly for something Bednarek and Lyanco have done for us on the regular over the years. Lyanco picking up a yellow for doing some weird resuscitating move on Guimares in the first leg was far more needless and unprofessional. Seems like DCC is now getting the Perraud treatment, who showed the error Jones was making last weekend.

If we lose tomorrow, all the questions at the fans forum have to be for Jones as I can't work out the thinking to some things. But, then Jones has gone hiding when Hasenhuttl was at each forum and stood up to the criticism.

Think the back 5 will be Bree, Lyanco, Janny B, Salisu and Perraud.

When has that ever happened though? By halftime tomorrow he'll have played 90 mins in 24 hours and be expected to play another 45. I'm sure the sports science team would be delighted

I do agree with you but equally, the run of performances we had over an extended period were really unacceptable. That doesn't mean that Jones is in any way the answer but it did get a little bit ridiculous for a while.

It will be an afternoon of utterly embarrassing "football" and will be funny to watch for everyone other than Saints fans

What is also annoying is that this would have been a chance a great to laugh at Everton but we are worse than them.... we really are.

If the idiot seriously believes  "we are close"  he needs his head examined

Sports Republic !!!! you have dropped a huge bollock here...big time

An absolute joke of an appointment

It's alright, we've got Lyanco to go in hard on Toney, miss time it, fall over on his arse and allow Mubemo to run through unmarked whilst easily outpacing the floudering Bednarek.
