Ertugrul Dogan, Trabzonspor President:

"Southampton want a transfer fee of €15m for Onuachu,”

“Our talks continue. We will wait for our coach’s report for Pepe and Orsic. We have been working very intensively on the transfer since February."

“As of now, we have signed the transfers of four players. We can add three more names to this. We will meet with a football player this week.”

He’ll probably end up going for under £10M.

True, but they might even just try to loan him for another season, which would not be great.

Trabzonspor manager Abdullah Avci:

"We did not get enough of Onuachu last season."

"He first went to the African Cup with the Nigerian national team, then suffered an injury."

"I don’t want to face the same problems again, that’s why Weghorst is a name that suits us better. If we finalise his transfer, it will be an important development for us."

Oh dear. Sounds like the two clubs can't find a middle ground. Hopefully they are just calling our bluff.

In two minds about this one.  If £5/6m helps us get a player in Martin really wants them fine, but otherwise would rather have him as an option for if we are chasing a game or need someone to hold the ball up.  His goalscoring record is decent, albeit he's still untested in the PL

Yep. We have literally no alternative at the moment as well.

Reports of him handing in a transfer request now - really wants that move to Trabzonspor, but they need to cough up the readies or he’ll rot in the U-21’s.

Does that mean that we don’t have to pay his loyalty bonus? Might help lower the fee

Fee apparently agreed with Trabzonspor.

Hopefully a decent sell on fee seeing as the price is quite cheap. Think he will score a good amount of goals there and get a bigger move.

Sad day, I had high hopes for Tall Paul.

Think potential was there and a Onuacho / Stewart front line would have taken a few defences by surprise this season.

I’m not sure having a sh*t, knock off Wood and Barnes at Burnley would have caused all that many problems for anyone.

We've painted ourselves into a bit of a corner with Onuachu. We overpaid on him by some distance out of pure desperation, he was a £10m player tops. Genk saw us coming, bit like Monaco with Carillo.

We will never be getting north of £10m for a player who was never worth that in the first place. I'd say £7.5m is a fair value and I imagine something being settled in that region. He won't stay here.

Something different that most players will never have faced before. He is going to worry defenders every attack and every set piece. We have a very predictable attack otherwise. And at the highest level the managers and players are better at nullifying stuff like good possession. He might just be our joker in the pack.

Except of course he was only put on to remind the world he is alive and available to buy.

Yuki to Tall Paul. I see the vision...

In all seriousness if we don't get an offer north of £12M we should absolutely try and make it work with him, I could see him developing a bit of a cult following here. As others mentioned he just brings something completely different and clearly knows where the goal is.

If his head is in it let's see what he can bring.

If we're not going to bring in anyone better which is probably what's going to happen, then try and use what we have . Unfortunately the one and only system of our play doesn't suit a player of his type.

I agree.
Good to see him on the pitch today.  KWP too 👆 .
To be fair he didn't look bad in his first 15 minutes of pre- season match football. With his size he certainly may worry defenders at especially set pieces.
Ambivalently, half of me hopes to keep him if we don't get the right offer.

I totally agree. And he looked pretty decent for a player who got his first 15 minutes of pre season match football today.

The only reason he was non effective,to be polite, when he played in the Premier League for us last time was that we never got the bloody ball to him !

The guy scores goals, he has to have something about him. I’d rather see him come on than Mara tbh.

WTF was Martin thinking. Edozie up front and TP forced back into a deeper position. Bring him on, stick him up front otherwise forget it. Having said that he still gave it a go. I have a feeling Martin was afraid he might pull a rabbit out of the hat so stuck him in a position he was unlikely to get into the box. Attack wise that was a sterile performance because the midfield was hopeless in an attacking sense especially Aribo. That game was crying out for Alcaraz to keep his temper under control and break out.

Oh jesus, there's more than one :D

I wonder what Martin was thinking as we dragged their defence up field and allowed our two quicker players either side of Onuachu to exploit the space.

Does this bloke still do a podcast? If so has anyone tried to explain to him one of the more simple concepts of our tactics?

Where was he playing? And was it best use of TPs attributes?

His role was to create space for others. Which he did quite well. I'm not sure why we would use our last pre season friendly to change our whole game plan for 12 months now to get the best out of someones attributes who we are actively trying to sell, but he did the role we asked of him well and I suspect at some point next week we'll be using the same tactics to get behind Newcastle (whether we use him or not is another matter).

Genuinely find it baffling I've had to explain that to someone. Thought the Glen guy was being a proper attention seeking dope with his tweet but can see why he has an audience if something that we've been doing at times for a year now and quite literally unfolded in front of peoples eyes just an hour or so ago still needs explaining :D

Yep. At the end of the day, it's him or Mara and this lad at least applies himself 100% and does know how to score. Big lanky strikers can do ok in footballing teams (Crouch wasn't bad) if used correctly. If we get an upgrade that RM prefers, then move him on. Until then, use him.

Couldn't agree more. I hope he and RM can shake hands and try to focus on working together if we don't get a fee north of 12-13 million pounds for him

Agree with this. There's at least one match thread where I've tracked Tall Paul's runs. The common thing about all of them is that no one comes close to getting the ball to him. Near post, in the centre, far post, getting behind defenders. All showed good movement, and all let down by the lack of service. All end with him trotting back to his starting position.

It's a shame that his style of play doesn't fit what Martin would like. He's not another Che Adams. He might be able to adapt to some of it. Perhaps Martin's system can accommodate some of his style. But it's not an easy fit.

Very true.

I wonder if RM has considered the fuzz TP can potentially make in any opponents penalty area at corners and other attacking set pieces.
