In my previous post I mentioned Tommy forecast and Gordon Hobson but somehow forgot to mention the great Kevin Moore, what a player he was for us and I think he was decent for you.          All the best

He was very decent and although not the tallest had an excellent jump on him: wasn't he a member of the 92 club, having played all the clubs in the FL at the time?

I think we agree on Tommy Fourpast as well...

Kevin Moore was very good for us. You forgot that our manager who signed him at the time was Chris Nichol who played with him whilst Asst Manager at Grimsby.

And don’t forget Lawrie of course ( who signed Lew Chatterley and Ian Turner from you).

Kev Moore and Chris Nicholl our best ever centre back pairing imo, Nearly took us to Division one, finishing 5th in a season when we’re beating the likes of Newcastle, chelsea, Sheffield Wednesday and man city etc, days which will never be repeated

Just booked tickets online. Looks like they have opened up all the stadium

I've just come off there and looked like the corners at the Chapel end were still closed off.

Decent performance this weekend and can see it getting to around low twenties.

Yep, you’re right. Officially they come up as “sold out” but that can’t be true. Also a large block at Itchen centre which is the same.

I think it was that season I saw Grimsby at Goodison Park.
Long story, but was on a work course up there, one of the blokes was an Everton fan and persuaded some of us to go.
I was interested in seeing Nicholl play for you so went along. But I hated Everton with a passion after the previous season’s FA Cup semi final (still do for that matter) so was quietly delighted when Paul Wilkinson scored in the last minute.
just had to keep the smug glow of satisfaction and amusement away from the surface amongst the Everton support.

A lovely fellow and a sad loss. I remember being at White Hart Lane at the end of a game that we lost. As he was walking off the pitch he had a wistful look around the stadium knowing that he was unlikely ever to play there again.

Brilliant mate, most one sided game I’ve ever seen in my life, what a defensive unit to keep one of Europe’s best sides at bay, YouTube is fab for reminiscing about great days like that, especially when the old grounds had atmosphere

Haddock boy in peace, was pleased to see your wishes came true and the oddball got relieved of his duties, probably not helped our chances of what would be an unlikely cup upset, crazy how one man can fcuk a club up, we had it a few seasons ago with Ian Holloway and ended up in non league. would you think it was likely that you will more or less change most of the team for this game?  Nottm forest played their reserves against us in the carabao cup and they were on another planet to us. Tickets have sold very well from our end, about 3,500 and plenty of harry haddocks, well that’s just a bit of fun for the kids, maybe some clubs are a bit against the inflatables after one of our supporters got arrested and found guilty of hitting a barnet steward over the head with his harry haddock in the crime of the century, barnet banned the inflatables so next year we hired a mariachi band to play at the game. Never been to Southampton so any help on what area to have a good drink(not Wetherspoons), pub with a pool table would be good and any recommendations for a good curry. In my previous post I mentioned Tommy forecast and Gordon Hobson but somehow forgot to mention the great Kevin Moore, what a player he was for us and I think he was decent for you.          All the best

Get yourself to Coriander Lounge for a curry, top notch quality and good location in town , while you are in the area have a pint at Dancing Man pub in the old wool house nearby.

Can't remember when I last noticed a pool table in a pub , there used to be one in Mayflower Village pub close to train station but not been in there for a couple of years. Plenty of pubs in town within 20 mins walk of the ground so can take your pick.

Saints will almost certainly change starting XI, big squad now but to be honest it's hard to say if it would be weaker , Leeds and Leicester games either side will be priority but you'll still get to see some international soccer superstars like Che McAdams, Moussa Djenepo, Willy Caballero, perhaps our two Croatian internationals if they are let off the naughty step.

I've actually decided to go to the game myself now partly based on having a decent away following making it a decent cup occasion, shame it won't be a big crowd but to give you some context I think we've got the worst home form in the 92 with just two home league wins in the last 12 months (against Arsenal and Chelsea weirdly) so we've got a lot of disillusioned season ticket holders. Record in the cups is a bit better but shows you definitely have a chance

Surely they'll invite Lawrie McMenemy and Tommy Forecast as guests of honour for the game, Forecast wasn't just bad for us, it makes it worse that he was part of a deal in Saints cashing in our sell on clause for Gareth Bale with Spurs, another costly mistake in a long list of costly mistakes we've had over the years, he actually lives next door to a friend of mine now, think he coaches kids so the future of goalkeeping in Hampshire is in safe hands

Now sold over 4,000 for the FA cup, looking forward to this game, a chance for our club to lock horns with a Premiership club, don't under estimate us, this is not our cup final. in the last twenty-five years we have visited Wembley seven times, wanting to add another or two visit LOL.

Hope you stay up,(hope the team further down the south coast gets relegated) but you lose on Wednesday, gutted this game is being midweek,  god knows how many would have gone.

Good luck against Leeds on Saturday.

Unbelievable support coming down from Grimsby, my estimate is we've only sold about 8-9k home end tickets so far, hopefully will shift a few more before Wednesday night, I'm sure we will if we get a decent result at Leeds today

May as well go all out in the Cup. After today's shit show we are down. Let's try and do a Wigan.

Selles basically confirmed we will rotate but seeing how bad the first XI are I doubt we'll be much weaker.

If fit Mara, A. Armstrong, Edozie , Diallo Alcaraz, Djenepo, Caleta-Car  , Salisu, McCarthy will feature

Can’t get too excited for this one and going to give a miss. After Chelsea thought would definitely be going but I can’t stand the useless bastards after yesterday. And 715

Interesting hypothetical question - would some of our players only stay with us if we did have European football to offer them, assuming we go down?

Sorry, I don't understand.  Very few (and I mean very few)  of our players are good enough for the Premiere League.  How in the hell can they be aspiring to European football given the crap they've produced this season.

It's a tough one, get where you're coming from but I've always loved the fa cup, under the lights, big away following, a game we actually might win (who knows, against 16th in League Two we have a chance) , personally I'm now looking forward to it and feel it's a shame for Grimsby that there best cup run in years will be in front of thousands of empty seats....silly kick off time but we can't complain about devaluing the competition when fans don't bother to turn up anyway

You’ll have plenty of Grimsby fans filling the home empty seats mate .. you may even have a northern fishy fiddler sat next to you .. that’s how well the club is run these days .

For once I don't think we will, they have 4800 allocation so for once there's more than enough to cover away demand, even with a late rush I can't see them bringing more than 4300 so will be quite a few empty in away end , will be nice to not have away fans cheering in home end for once - another reason to go 👍

I think that's kind of the point, isn't it? It may be a few players only chance of playing in Europe in their career.

When was the last time a team played in the 2nd tier and in europe, was it Wigan?

Ahhh right, sorry, didn't make the connection (or I'm much more of a realist - no way will we win the FA Cup). If the impossible did happen I really couldn't see it attracting many players that could get decent prem clubs and wages, let's face it any European tour would be very brief!
