Never recovered from stupidly giving the ball away twice in 5 seconds to concede the first goal. Good effort 2nd half but chances missed again.

Chances missed. But in truth barely anything gilt-edged was created for the last 15-20 mins.

100% on Jones poor starting line up, playing Lyanco and 5 at the back. Second half we had far more control and caused them problems. Why didn't he do that from the start? Handed that to them although it was always going to be a big mountain to climb but why make it easy for them?

Jones fucked that with his 5 at the back first half shit show.

Why oh why does he refuse to see that we play better with a flat back four?
Everyone else can see it ffs

The Talksport Newcastle love in was absolutely despicable. But why did we pick that defensive line up and not go for it? Bizarre

Credit to Saints for that second half. Really were nearly back in it and made it very uncomfortable for Newcastle.

Another ‘what could have been’ unfortunately.

Far better 2nd half but the game was lost in the first 20. 🤬

Newcastle just set up shop and knew we carried no threat. Easy to look better when the oppo are content for us to have the ball 😅

We're going to hear some absolute dross about performance levels in a game we were never in, and barely threatened. Teams let us have the ball when they're ahead because it's safe to do so.

Frustrating that we gave the game away in the first 20 minutes.

Second half gives me some hope for the rest of the season, especially as we'll have more options up front.

We must ditch the 5 at the back, it just doesn't work in the overwhelming majority of games.

That loss is entirely on Jones. Let's see if he acknowledges that in the press conference 🙄

He’ll not do that…he’s famous for not taking responsibility for his errors.

Yep. Jones is going to say now how much better we were and how proud he was. It was bollocks. We only looked better at the end because Newcastle didn't have to do anything else to win.

It couldn't have got any worse than that first 20mins, but to be fair to them they did rally. But the biggest improvement came from, guess what? A switch to a back 4 and a proper CM in CM.

The first half I felt Bree looked totally unsure of where he was meant to be, caught in two minds, Lyanco being a wally as usual. But second half in a settled back 4, he was comfortable on and off the ball.

Lavia changed the game though, as soon as he came on we actually gained some control over the midfield which was such a huge issue in that first half. Attack wasteful though, but we knew that. Didn't really create anything clearcut (I don't class Armstrong being clean through as a chance tbh) and Newcastle were happy to retreat and play a low block, as we couldn't really play through them.

Armstrong being Armstrong, simply not good enough and never will be.

Didn't hold out much hope after last week, and my overriding emotion from tonight is that at least it didn't get too messy and we came out with a bit of dignity in that 2nd half. Massive questions as to why we keep starting with the wrong players in the wrong shape though, we keep scoring own goals before a ball is kicked.

Manager got the starting formation wrong. I can understand the thought process to keep it tight and get them nervous. Don't think it is a hanging offence but hopefully he'll be man enough to admit that.3 at the back just doesn't work for us, we just end up with a disorganised 5 at he back. Much better when we switched it. We still lacked much real threat/quality despite the possession dominance in 2nd half. Really hope club can pull off at least 1 attacking signing. Armstrong is such a nothing player, wasted such a golden chance to at least get us the draw.

Yep crap starting line up, why do we persist with 5 at the back? It’s never worked.

on Jones for the first 20 minutes, he did change it though and we improved. 3 times no one tracked Longstaffs run, 2 in ended up in the back of the net, that was poor.

Fuck this, fuck the bias commentary, fuck the Newcastle wank fest and the Newcastle fan wank fest. Their fans are the same as any other. They're loud when on top and shit when team shit. They don't love football as a city more than any other town or city and the "they love a number 9" shite is cringy. They don't spend their last pennies on watching their beloved team more than any other fucking teams fans. They've spent a fuck load of Arabian blood money that if Sunderland had done it they'd be pulling them apart saying they're an oil run club. And the 30 stone fucks with their shirts off in winter that the cameras always have to show because they're 'mad and great fans '. Fuck off they've got 5 inches thick of gristle of course they don't need a fucking coat. Why are these messes celebrated. I bet they sit on their fat arses all week buying tickets handouts. Fuck the prem, fuck sky, I'd rather get relegated so I don't have to listen to as much of this shite all the time

Showed a lot of spirit second half.

Bree looks a decent signing.

He got better, was poor first half but can’t have helped having Lyanco next to him who was absolutely terrible.

Lavia makes such a difference, didnt give that wee gimp Bruno and Longstaff a sniff. For as much improved as the second half was, Pope was barely troubled. Yes the 1 on 1 which AA has to go round him and Edozie should find Che with the cut back. But the result was never in doubt after a car crash of a first 20 minutes. 5 at the back just doesnt work for us, especially in a game.where we need some attacking threat. Some tough questions need directed at Jones but I doubt that'll happen

Ally McCoist doesn’t even annoy me in a game like that. Genuinely loves football

Yeah he's incredible, the best co-comm. Love the guy, adds real drama and emotion to any game he's part of.

With the greatest respect, Mad Nate gave them the tie on a plate

This is the problem he has. He went for the "comfort blanket" approach. Thinking if we have enough bodies back there, we'll survive the initial enslaught. But in the end it just invites pressure and mistakes and resulted in 2 goals conceded. The opposite effect.

Just shows such a lack of tactical nous, a low-league management brain at work. That kind of thinking doesn't work at the higher levels. We need a manager who isn't afraid to play a back 4 and can motivate, train and instill discipline in the players so that we don't have to rely on this "strength in numbers" approach of his.

Catching up now but not liking what I am reading.

I can't stand Jones, odious little prick that's massively out of his depth, stubborn and arrogant.

We need to bin him off at the end of the season no matter what.

It's high time the rules around concussion were changed. If a player goes down supposedly with a head injury then they should be taken off the pitch instantly for assessment.

That would immediately stop players from using it to waste time.

Agreed. Similar to American football - taken off, temporary sub brought on, and injured player evaluated until they're deemed okay/not okay to continue.

Would stop instances like last year's World Cup where Iran's defender tried getting his keeper to get on with the game even though he'd suffered a head injury, and was clearly in no state to continue.

Newcastle fans are some of the worst in the country easily. They were raging against Ashley for not investing when he spent over £40M on joelinton (crazy entitlement)... They're incredibly toxic when not winning (look what they did to pardew when he almost got them champions league), and they're quite happy seeing any soul of their club / history being usurped to sportswash abuses such as the khashoggi killing whilst they not only lap up the blood money but also dress in Saudi garb... Honestly couldn't name a worse fanbase in the country... And the UK media's bias towards them is equally sickening on that front. I hope man united smash them and they miss top 4.

Didn't the defence of the red card annoy you? McCoist saying it was a genuine challenge and unlucky? Bollocks he left his foot in as long as he could the little rat. Could easily have snapped edozies leg

Wrong set up from the start. No excuse for playing a 3 after everything we have seen since Jones has been manager.

We are clearly a better team in a 4. Alcaraz and JMP had nothing in the first half. We have to play 4 at the back, we are shit with 3 centre backs!!

I really want to give Jones a chance but he got so much wrong tonight.

I have a theory that may have played a part in that line up tonight but that first half was dreadful.

He needs a visa won’t be in UK for another 2 days he won’t start

Without a visa he can still train I believe, just can't play in first team fixtures. If he arrives tomorrow he could get 3 full days in.

He agreed it was a red card to be fair, didn't really listen to much of that reaction I was more worried about Edozie at that point.

But Lavia got in Bruno's head, gave him more of a game 2nd half and you could tell he was boiling up due to all the fouls before that. Not sure if it was totally intentional, just miss timed and very frustrated.

He didn’t actually say that, he said it was a red but does have a bit of sympathy as he was attempting to play the ball. He also did say Edozie could have been badly hurt. That’s a pretty fair summary.

How many have changed their minds on Lyanco and see him for the crap footballer that he is?

The amount of people on here who we’re obsessed with him a few months ago over the fact he thinks his chest like an ape and shows some PaShUn! They’ve gone very quiet. 😅

Regardless of the starting formation I don't suppose Jones was expecting our boys to keep passing to players in black and white. The first goal came from giving the ball away twice in our own half.
