Bednarek hast returneth!

Seriously, why does the club think this is a good move or an exciting one for the fans in any way?

Never go back is generally a good rule. We dodged a bullet with Danny Ings. Theo just shouldn't have. Bednarek returns with low expectations from the fanbase who know his limitations and a ton of negative goodwill - what could possibly go wrong?

As always, delighted to be proven wrong.

Why don't we bring Tella back if we're going to recall anyone?

Full PR bullshit coming out “he loves the club” .
All the crap coming out now like  we need Bednarek he can help us!

To more 9-0’s and his performance in that 6-0 against Chelsea!

The one good thing this season is  not having to watch that cart horse bugger up all he touches.

Hope he doesn’t get booed that won’t help just silence from me if he comes on as surely he won’t start after what 2 games all season?

Cheer the team in usual way but honestly every decision or non decision this season from SR has been abysmal.

It's hardly full PR bullshit what Jones has said.

Especially the stuff Jan said about Villa would also qualify as "full PR bullshit" in the first place. Just for Villa audience not a Saints one.

So not really worth get worked up about.

What Janny B will bring us depth and experience? Really has he ever seen that donkey moan at everyone else and then slice in own net? Aggression from Bednarek?

Nathan Jones on Bednarek: "We felt we needed a bit more experience. With the greatest respect, we've got some young centre-halves. We just felt we needed a bit of experience, a bit of aggression in there." #SaintsFC

The full PR was looking around the Saints journos posting not just Jones.

The one bonus this season of having Salisu , DCC and BK is not watching that lumbering oaf taking no responsibility.

Why is the club trying to make out they wanted to recall Bednarek - Villa couldn't wait to get shot of him and my understanding is that they sent him back because he wasn't good enough.

He’s under contract the club, they’re hardly going to hang him out to dry. He’s probably been told new managers new start, see if you can earn a place in the team.

I know all that but no need to make out we're not aware of what's going on. Just tell the truth.

Exactly this. He’s always been our player and unless Villa had an option to buy then he was always going to come back at some time. Obviously his remarks on departure were bizarre to say the least, but probably indicative of either a shortage of brain cells or an overzealous agent speaking for him, rather than any dislike of Saints (although I suspect he’d had enough of some of our lovely ‘fans’ screaming abuse at him). I suspect the latter - “going to a bigger team” is a lazy stock phrase.

Villa clearly didn’t like what they saw of him in training and that speaks volumes about where our squad is quality-wise. NJ is talking him up because the only way he’ll wring benefit out of him is to make the other players think he’s in contention with a chance of starting.

Maybe he just never suited 5 at the back, couldnt really hack it. 4 would suit him better and maybe bolsters the defensive bench abit. Yeah I know straws, clasped, at.

But if anything this just increases the likelihood of us continuing with 5 at the back. We will have 5 'international' CB's on the books, which is way too many if we were doing 4 at the back.

The only explanation is that ABK is out for a while, or he doesnt trust Salisu. Looks like he will pick Lyanco regardless, and despite his lack of footballing ability, I can see why.

The bigger worry is if he actually thinks that 5 at the back will work for this team, given the fact that whenever we play it we are absolutely appalling. And adding Bednarek to the mix, just adds another defender than doesnt mark players, and watches the ball go over his head.

Personally I think we might get a bit of dicking about from ABK - in the Lincoln game playing out from the back he didn't want the ball from Lyanco, instead ABK was telling him to play to the left, when the obvious opportunity was going up the right. Lyanco pulled ABK's tail and once or twice played the ball to him and he got a bit of a nark on. And was subbed at half time. In the Brighton game his body language was equally less interested, and getting clattered in a pretty innocuous challenge was the perfect excuse to swing the lead.

I think maybe you're being a little bit unfair but I understand your point.

If I'm honest, I think at that point all of the CB's, apart from Lyanco, didn't want to play in a back 3, and ABK and Salisu were horribly exposed by Lincoln's no 7 that night.  None of them want to play LB or RB in a 3, you can tell by their body language.

But did nothing for their first goal. Made himself as thin as possible and turned side on to the kick. Even turned his head away.

The issue was the midfield not following the runners. Janny B’s omission was minor in comparison.

Agree. First goal AArmstrong tracked Longstaff until her reached the edge of the area then bizzarely  stopped and decided to cover an empty space that his run had left. 2nd goal, this time Alcaraz tracked Longstaff and again simply stopped leaving him to continue his run into the area unmarked.

It was almost as if our midfielders have been getting in defenders way and have been told that the penalty area is for the defenders to deal with and they both took it literally. Very strange.

To be fair they’re all at fault. It was a team effort.

But you don’t normally expect your forwards to track an opponent all the way back to your own penalty spot.

I dont understand that way of thinking Whitey!!  Surely you track a midfield runner all the way, as the defenders have their own men to cover. I believe the pundits ( although they were useless) pointed out that on both occasions AA and Alcarez were in the wrong. In fact Frannie highlighted it himself

As an attacker or even an attacking midfielder you don't run all over the pitch chasing everything that moves. You follow your opponent back towards your own goal trying to get your foot in or shepherd him out wide but as you get to the edge of your own box you expect him to run into one of your own defenders. It should be a layered defence.

Yesterday they just waltzed into our penalty are without a challenge.

  • 2 weeks later...

Beginning to think we might have been better off getting the guy from Soul 2 Soul instead.

Honestly, how does he waltz straight back into the starting lineup? I thought he was being recalled purely for backup? Did Jones seriously not watch any videos that would have shown him unequivocally why we packed him off on loan in the first place?

That OG today was hilariously bad, even by his standards.

Bednarek is a good centre back apart from the fact that he always backs off until he is blocking his goalkeeper's view, turns his back on every shot, lays down, never marks anyone, never wins a header, scores ridiculous own goals, never rushes out to confront an attacker, is weak, is slow and doesn't read the game so give the guy a break.

Apart from that, he's Europe's best CB.

Quite lucky he's being managed by Europe's best manager. They go hand in hand.

it’s the great story of our season and almost poetic in the sense that facing almost certain relegation we bring back the twat who belittled the fans and was utter shit to solidify our relegation further.

It ranks highly among the sequence of baffling decisions SR have made.  I don't think they are cut out for this football malarkey.
