whelk Posted 14 January, 2023 Posted 14 January, 2023 We are unstoppable. 3-0 win and everyone leaves happy. Nathan Jones Red and White Army sung loudly 3
Saint_clark Posted 15 January, 2023 Posted 15 January, 2023 Tough game, probably end up being a loss to keep us grounded in reality. Would be really nice to be the surprise package second half of the season and storm up the table but I doubt it. 1
Chris cooper Posted 15 January, 2023 Posted 15 January, 2023 New striker in another 3 pts onwards and upwards to safety 🔴⚪️🔴⚪️
JRM Posted 15 January, 2023 Posted 15 January, 2023 Villa one of the form sides in the division, definitely tough game. Won 4 of their last 6 league games I think.
Sheaf Saint Posted 15 January, 2023 Posted 15 January, 2023 Will be a tougher test than Everton, but there's plenty of energy and fight in our recent performances. A win would be very welcome though. Forest have shown that however poor you are, a couple of wins back to back will push you up to mid table at the moment. 1
coalman Posted 15 January, 2023 Posted 15 January, 2023 Villa are beatable. They managed to win against Leeds while being played off the park. It's another one of those winnable games we've come to fear as Saints fans. Just remember how abject we were in the reverse fixture and would love to see us make amends and make that chink of light a little brighter. Downside is Coutinho is out of form and loves playing against us.

Downside is Coutinho is out of form and loves playing against us. Expand As you rightly say, Leeds were by far the better side, and on anther day they could have won at a canter, but they didn't take their chances and Villa do have players that are dangerous up front. We've lost the last three against them, playing very poorly in a couple of those.
saintant Posted 15 January, 2023 Posted 15 January, 2023 Villa probably won't play a low block or park the bus. Therefore we need to treat this more like the City game. Come flying out the traps, press them hard and get on the front foot with pace and power. They are not great at the back apart from having a quality keeper - Mings has mistakes in him and breeds uncertainty in his team mates. 1
Saint_clark Posted 15 January, 2023 Posted 15 January, 2023 Just did a premier league predictor, thought I was being quite pessimistic but I had us finishing safe on 44 points. As always with those its difficult to predict where the lower sides will pull the shock results so I had West Ham, Everton and Bournemouth going down all with less than 27 points!
S-Clarke Posted 15 January, 2023 Posted 15 January, 2023 (edited) They've got some dangerous players, but I thought they were absolutely horrendous against Leeds. They should have been done by many goals, their centre backs were just static and letting Leeds runners in time and time again. It was only Martinez and poor finishing that stopped a thrashing. It was a win that masked an incredibly shit performance in my opinion. They're almost certainly beatable if we go for their throat. Edited 15 January, 2023 by S-Clarke
Miltonaggro Posted 15 January, 2023 Posted 15 January, 2023 Win this and we have real momentum, cash in on this recent great results. We should see some chants in support of the manager too. Pamplemousse Posted 15 January, 2023 Posted 15 January, 2023 We need to start winning our home games. Last time we got a point in the league at home was against Arsenal!
Saint Garrett Posted 15 January, 2023 Posted 15 January, 2023 They’re a decent side now, and it will be a tough game, but we’re coming off the back of 3 wins and confidence is growing. Going into the three cup games after 3 points against Villa will give us so much confidence. With us in a far better position in the league the players can really go for the cup games. With five big games in 15 days the two new additions are really going to help with squad rotation. Alcaraz and Orsic should both see a fair bit of playing time. Saint Fan CaM Posted 16 January, 2023 Posted 16 January, 2023 (edited) Personally I think this is another must win game, however Villa look confident and gaining ground in mid table where we normally would be. There’s a reason for that and it’s all to do with the persistence in a failing system. Given the new additions and hopefully a striker this week, Jones may be able to lift the players once again and achieve another win.
