Saints 0-1 Aston Villa

Villa are beatable. They managed to win against Leeds while being played off the park. It's another one of those winnable games we've come to fear as Saints fans.

Just remember how abject we were in the reverse fixture and would love to see us make amends and make that chink of light a little brighter.

Downside is Coutinho is out of form and loves playing against us.

If Coutinho plays as a 10, Lavia will sort him out.

We'll be ok against Villa.

As you rightly say, Leeds were by far the better side, and on anther day they could have won at a canter, but they didn't take their chances and Villa do have players that are dangerous up front.

We've lost the last three against them, playing very poorly in a couple of those.

Villa probably won't play a low block or park the bus. Therefore we need to treat this more like the City game. Come flying out the traps, press them hard and get on the front foot with pace and power. They are not great at the back apart from having a quality keeper - Mings has mistakes in him and breeds uncertainty in his team mates.

Just did a premier league predictor, thought I was being quite pessimistic but I had us finishing safe on 44 points. As always with those its difficult to predict where the lower sides will pull the shock results so I had West Ham, Everton and Bournemouth going down all with less than 27 points!

They've got some dangerous players, but I thought they were absolutely horrendous against Leeds. They should have been done by many goals, their centre backs were just static and letting Leeds runners in time and time again. It was only Martinez and poor finishing that stopped a thrashing.

It was a win that masked an incredibly shit performance in my opinion. They're almost certainly beatable if we go for their throat.

Win this and we have real momentum, cash in on this recent great results. We should see some chants in support of the manager too. Leeds bossed Villa the other day and should have beaten them. If we get in their faces predicting 2-1 or 2-0 Saints.

If this happens and we manage to recruit that elusive number 9 target man (Moffi?) I fancy us giving it real fucking go. COYR!

You predict we might get 29 points from 19 games - are you smoking something? 🙂

7 wins, 8 draws, 6 losses. Hard to beat ;)

Don't we only have 19 games remaining? Anyway, I hope your prediction is spot on. We'd all take 44 points from this position. Let's see how things unfold.  Personally I think we are more likely to amass around 38 points at best and that would be going some based on the first half of the season.

Sounds as if moffi is staying in France and is going to Nice … similar stats to moffi is the big lad Beto at udinese.

He would be a great addition for us an out n out 9 ..big powerful guy good in the air and can score goals … think he could shoot us to safety. If we can’t get him .. bite the bullet with mr ings and get him back on a end of season loan agreement…we have to build on this momentum and get a striker in for villa .

Villa have said they will not entertain a loan for Ings. Why would they, after all he is part of their match day squad and often  plays….

Sounds as though Lorient don't want to sell to a close rival in their league.

They seem to be the three favourites for the drop, I've had WHU & Bournemouth for ages along with us but we seem to be recovering under Jones.

Did read somewhere from someone who knows his family that he's apparently keen to come back...make of that what you will!

I did think that if Villa were to let Ings go, and it was to us, they would wait until after we play them before doing so. They're not stupid, why strengthen us with all the insider info immediately before their game.

Personally I don't think we'll sign him but obviously it would be fantastic.

Basically you are predicting that our second half of the season is as good as Brighton/Brentford/Fulham's first half. Not impossible but feels like a stretch.

That would do very nicely in terms of the drop. Everton particularly hilarious!

Thank goodness for that, not sure we have the spare capacity in the treatment room. Ings is well past it, we did well to get shotn of him when we did. He has been brilliant the season before.

I see Watkins got injured yesterday. Does anyone know how serious it was? If it's a bad one then I doubt Villa would let Ings go.

Draw. Which wouldn't be a bad result, I said before the Everton game 4 points from the two wouldn't be a bad haul. But 6 from 2? Damn if we haven't resurrected ourselves like Lazarus, Jesus, Zombies and a Phoenix all in one if we get a win. Just as long as we don't lose this and we then can go into both cup competitions full of confidence.

Put it this way just over a week ago we were the team everyone wanted to play. Not any more. Still tons of work to be done but confidence and hard work are important in football and it finally looks like our players are fighting for survival, rather than meekly cruising towards relegation.

So would you want ings back?

Not that he'd eat humble pie by returning from the "bigger" club where he gets no game time and hasn't really reached potential.

I'd have him back for what it's worth... Looks like he's going to one of our rivals though!

My thoughts exactly, 1-1 draw prediction which is still a decent result

Everton won’t go down, they never do.

This is a game we really need to win to get us up to 18 points from 20 games.  I reckon that will give us a decent chance of staying up.

If we follow that with 20 from 18 to finish the season I think we stay up.

Winning this game would be such a boost. Going into the three cup games after 3 points against Villa will give us so much confidence. With us in a far better position in the league the players can really go for the cup games.

With five big games in 15 days the two new additions are really going to help with squad rotation. Alcaraz and Orsic should both see a fair bit of playing time.

Im really looking forward to this next two weeks. A good fortnight and we could end up having an amazing season. After what we have seen so far, it’s strange to still be in both cups and only 2 points behind 14th.

Writing that makes me think about how crazy this season is!!

Personally I think this is another must win game, however Villa look confident and gaining ground in mid table where we normally would be. There’s a reason for that and it’s all to do with the persistence in a failing system. Given the new additions and hopefully a striker this week, Jones may be able to lift the players once again and achieve another win. Lose and relegation will be in the minds of many again, although its so tight at the moment in the bottom six. The upcoming cup games will hopefully not be a distraction that costs us. I’m going 1-1, but hoping 2-0 to start addressing the GD.
