Duje Ćaleta-Car

Our best CB. Struggled to understand why he wasn't picked much before now, although obviously we don't know what's going on behind the scenes.

Said it after the Man City game, but his positioning and reading of the game are superb. A great player.

Never thought he looked as good as people said when he played previously, but it was interesting hearing Jones say that he was brought in and asked to be a footballer before being a defender...sometimes going back to basics is the best thing. I like defenders that can play from the back, but I love defenders that just focus on not letting anyone past them.

He’s just so simple and composed, every clearance seems to go to the right place. Nothing is ever sliced, scuffed or misdirected. I’ve been hugely impressed by him the last two games.

A couple of times yesterday he had the ball at the back and was quickly getting surrounded by Everton players with no clear out, and instead of a risky play just hoofed it out play, to let others come back and get organised. I loved that. "If in doubt, hoof it out" is what I like to see from defenders.

Is still set to join Lyon on a permanent?  I forgot that the rumoured story was that we'd get the cash this summer.

Wasn’t it an obligation to buy?

Really thought DCC would be terrific for us and was the centre back I wanted us to sign under RH.  I think he is obligated to join Lyon on a reduced fee but there is a chance Martin will have a look.  Probably prefer him to ABK, thirty games for Lyon last season at least suggests he's fit and wants to play.

Same, i thought he'd be a great signing it was weird because he obviously has some calibre but he barely featured for us. Something wasn't right from the start.

And going back through this thread (Grimsby aside), was pretty good in the few games he did play.

He joined in September 2022 and eight weeks later Nathan 'whistle' Jones turned up, poor bastard probably thought swopping Sampaoli and Tudor for the Welsh wizard might have been an error at that point.  Despite Nat clearly having superior Europe-wide stats than those two no-marks, with the greatest respect.  Guess we will never know...
