Better shape, priority has to be Everton. Resting Adams and Edozie is sensible. Plus confining Stuart Armstrong to the medical room is a good move.

Obviously Djenepo and Diallo are weak but maybe the latter will be more comfortable with the other two next to him.

I'm expecting 2 or 3 nil to City. If it means the team's shape starts to solidify then that's progress.

I hate this formation to be honest. I know it's logical against a strong opponent like City but I think this would have been the shape regardless of our opposition. League 1 Lincoln at home is a case in point.

You mean you've worked out our formation!

Not sure what the logic is here, we played a strong team against Palace which suggests we're not throwing the towel in for the cups and then we put out this team.

I get the "rest the team argument" and I know it's about timing, but we're within a couple of games of a final - It would make more sense to rest players for the fa cup game. Just plain bizarre team selection.

We had a spell of losing 1/4 finals back then, didn’t we. Luton, Oldham and Bolton spring to mind.

Luton and Oldham were tough to take, we beat Bolton and lost to Norwich in 1/4 in 1992, most recent times Koeman fucked it up and we lost to league one Sheff Utd in quarters when heavy favourites

Palace was much more winnable than Man City.

We've got a huge league game in 3 days time.

5-3-2 then, but i fancy JWP, Lavia, and Diallo as a better midfield 3 than Jones has fielded so far. Interested to see how Armstrong and Mara get on.

What does it say that i was dreading a worse line up? 🙈

The fact that city's weakened team can still comfortably feature players like foden, grealish, alvarez, laporte, walker, and cancelo.... with Haaland and KDB on the bench. Actually horrific.

I’m seeing that as a 3 5 2.

Bolton was the Barry Horne game wasn't it, taking the game to ET with a long range corker & then winning it with a comparatively simple chance from the edge of the box!

He's playing three central midfielders and 2 strikers so our width must be coming from Walker-Peters and Djenepo as wing backs. I'm surmising that we're playing a three centre back system today yeah.

Well it's worked up to now.

Why though? It’s not like in the league where GD counts. It doesn’t matter if we lose 1-0 or 6-0.

I think he means that a 3-0 defeat will wash over and be forgotten about but 8 or 9 won't.

I imagine Man City can't be arsed to win 8 nil though.

I get that but some people act as if 9-0 is our go to score and have been predicting it every time we’ve played a top six team, ever since. We’ve had far more surprise wins than 9-0s against these teams over the last few years.

First interview I've seen of jones (been avoiding it) my initial thoughts is his eyes and demeanor say he's a defeated man... He looks scared... As most people would be when they are about to face city

The whole team seems to dread playing at home. They believe they're going to lose before they even walk out.

How do we possibly change that mentality? ..... Start winning I guess!

Wonder what people's thoughts would be on Jones if we win this one🤔

Nobody wants us to go down.

The reason we're against him is he's just lost 3 winnable games in a row, is playing horrible football and is sounding like a prick every time he's given a microphone.

I imagine everyone would be pretty happy if we win today.
