Great result, now to transfer these performances and wins into the league and we can all start to feel a bit better! Both goals were great finishes although suspect keeping for the 2nd!

New signing announced and beating City. What a 24 hours.

Now for a striker and 3 points at Goodison. Can we beat Palace, City and Everton in a week?

No surprise at all really, the FA are desperate for a repeat of the classic ‘79 final.

Carabao Cup is run by EFL, not FA. But yeah, always suspect those ‘hot balls’ are in play. Big clubs never seem to play each other. Extending the conspiracy theory perhaps someone wanted a Man Utd v Man City final…

Impossible like tonight you mean?

Basically yes. Turn of phrase guys. Of course not impossible. Just very hard with their support and current form. Can be done though obvs, esp with God on our side…

Won't be a problem getting a ticket for up there , doubt we'll take more than 2000

We took a fair few up to Liverpool last time, but you're probably right. I'm hoping for another backs against the wall, last minute winner type scenario. The Anfield game will live long in my memory. Maybe this one can too.

We protected him really well, but what he did well tonight was his presence in the box I felt. He came for balls when he needed to, made the right calls when he needed to. He was calmer in his play and equally his distribution. One pass in particular in the first half was put on the foot of Moussa, it was ridiculous.

What a great LONG BALL that was.

Stockport as well. In both the Luton and Stockport games we’d drawn away to get replay and lost at home. The Luton one was tough to take as we had a perfectly good goal disallowed on normal time and lost 2-1 in extra time. They might have gone on to win it that year too.

Ricky Hill with the winner in The Archers Rd end i recall, I was right behind the goal.

If he has it in his locker make use of it - pretty sure on the commentary they said that young Gavin is one of the top, on stats, for distribution.
McCarthy hits the left wing consistently in pre match warm up on the kick out - as soon as the game starts that same kick out is persistently threatening Mrs Miggins hot flask of Tea in row C of the Kingsland.

Can't believe anyone still posts that nonesense. How many big clubs are there? 6 maybe 7?  Odds are nearly always against them getting drawn together. Even in this draw statistically it was 2/1 ManU would get Newcastle, evens they'd get either us or Forest. But you're right they never seem to play each other ....except Man City had aleady knocked out Chelsea and Liverpool in this tournament this season. 🤔

I agree. Without doubt it's the best part of Bazunu's game.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a long ball, especially one as exquisite as that one. Turing sides like City around and getting us the pitch does work. I think though, as fans we are a lot more forgiving when we clear out lines with a hoof, or hit a more speculative long ball when we are playing word class opposition. Do that against Everton (and without a 2 goal lead) and fans may start to moan again. They key is to score goals, get in front, win games, and the quality of football is far less scrutinised.

Still buzzing after last night. Bloody great to feel some level of optimism, even if it is short lived.

And City got Chelsea in the FA cup and then drew Arsenal in the next round. It's bloody great when it happens, giving everyone one else just that little bit better chance of winning the competition, but the odds are always against it. That's why its brilliant when a smaller side like us manages to knock one of them out. The League Cup is now wide open.

That was unrecognisable from the team of the last few weeks. The win in the FA Cup was based on a generous helping of good fortune thanks to their keeper. Last night we deserved it. Well done, everyone at the club.

we deserved to win the FA cup game. Yes we were gifted the goals, but we were the better side and the second half display earned that little bit of luck.

Last night was a huge jump forward. As you say completely unrecognisable from the Forest game. Maybe, and it's a big maybe, the Forest game was a blip rather than being the norm in terms of style, effort etc.

We were actually half decent at Anfield (second half), obviously struggled and were disjoined against Lincoln after a long lay off, and were totally outplayed/classed against a red hot Brighton, but we played OK at Fulham (deserved at least a point) and earned our victory at Palace. It's a glass half full day today for me.

You just have to look at our position on that 92 club league table - like the man said last night I’m not David Blaine. Dunno who he’s fooling ‘cos he pulled a bloody big rabbit out of the hat last night.

You can drill them until the cows come home in training, but you won’t learn very much until you are facing live opposition with live ammunition.

Something good to see from last night was City players getting the arse with each other as the game wore on - think the last time I saw that was when we beat them fresh into Pochs tenure ………. Harry Reed chasing down Aguero in the latter stages, turning to the bench with “who is he” and “what do I do”.

Jones being spiky back at “us” - if he makes this team equally or more spiky I’ll buy into that.

I think that I should take some credit for last night's outstanding performance and result 😊 !

I live on the West Wight but had a meeting in Cowes which finished early (about 4pm) so I would have to hang about somewhere. I had a ticket (£21.50) but it was pissing with rain and very windy so I decided to forego the pleasure of a soaking combined with an anticipated drubbing at the hands of the (arguably) best team in the land !

I've never done this before but had a feeling of dread and 'deja vu' relating to the infamous Leicester game a couple of years back and chickened out....

Had it not been live on Sky I would not have made that decision but was able to watch it in warmth and comfort on my home sofa 😇 !

Maybe I should not buy a ticket for the Newcastle or Blackpool matches just to give the guys a chance...

I guess that I've suddenly become a 'fair-weather' supporter 😉!!

I thought the Sky commentator was excellent. His naming the players who received the ball each time from a pass made viewing it on the tele so much more enjoyable, and his comments were good

I  cannot overstate how well Saints played. Absolutely sumptous!!

The Radio 5'Live commentator was not so good. Amidst lots of patronising comments about Saints just before kick off he informed the world that all the  City fans were occupying the Chapel end.

Undeniably, last night was a very bright light in an otherwise season of pretty much doom and gloom. A number of theories have been floated as to why that performance was chalk and cheese compared with other recent  performances. Just a thought I've been mulling over, that in addition to everything else that has been mentioned as to why that was, the fact that we have signed two highly rated players this week, and with the possibility of more to follow, the players out there last night automatically raise their game (perhaps even subconsciously), knowing there will be more competition for places, and as well as to impress the manager, they are also impressing their new "highly-rated" colleagues. New signings can give the whole place a lift as well as the fan base. I would think Orsic and Alcaraz would have both watched last night and in their respective languages thought, "Blimey, this lot ain't too bad".

That's my third post so I can't respond to any replies and/or theories today.

It's Newcastle midweek , semi final or not we never take a lot up there. Maybe 2500 if coaches reasonably priced

how many did we have at Anfield? Think it was about 3000 from memory. Depending on the result of the first leg but like you say wont be many more than 2000. I might even come out of retirement for this one.

Ha...it's hilarious and shows all supporters are the same I guess. "Worst performance in 50 years" was one comment. I remember watching City in the early 2000's before the money came in. They were routinely beaten by loads of clubs...including us.

Yeah, remember us pissing all over them and their fans chanting 'What the feck is going on' and we also regularly beat them at Maine Road.

Had a quick look and couldn't see this interview posted.

It worries me that he thinks we "played the same way" in the forest game as last night...

He literally said  we've 'been good in the last 4 or 5 games, we haven't conceded anything. Yeah we've conceded silly goals against Fulham, mistakes against Fulham and mistakes against Forest, but in terms of the performance level - it's been there, the performance level's been there. Today, the last two games we've really just got the points to justify that."

Even the interviewer keeps saying "they've been really good performances".

"Spoiler alert: They haven't.

Am I right in thinking we won the last ever league game there?

There's always one clever sod who has to check on Wikipedia and today it's me.  😀

Yep, you're spot on 👍

The final competitive match before the closure of the stadium took place on 11 May 2003 with a Premiership match against Southampton. Tickets were sold upwards of £250 and a crowd of 34,957, about 100 off maximum capacity filled Maine Road for the final day.

One of our best centerbacks in the last 20 years scored IIRC.

1-0, Michael Svensson goal. They had a concert afterwards, and unlike our last game at the Dell didn't let fans on the pitch.

We then also won our first game at the Etihad. 3-1. We managed to field Kevin Phillips, James Beattie and Marian Pahars that day and they couldn't cope with them.

Can’t remember a season where I’ve been simultaneously this excited and this nervous at the same time.

The potential of this group of youngsters is enormous but clearly they’re not there yet and our current situation is far from ideal.

unlike a lot on here I think Jones will turn out to be a really good appointment.

if we can survive the short term then the longer term prospects are starting to look the best we’ve had for many a year.

You’ve got to take into account how young that team was that played on Wednesday. JWP was the elder statesman by a good couple of years.

Got a real feeling we’re building something here but this season is gonna be a roller coaster.

Yeah bit more than 3000 but made it as far as on sale to anyone on database, they probably won't do complete general sale again as would end up with Geordies in our end, Bad enough having it at home games could do without it away as well.

You should go mate, let me know I'll meet you up there.

Seem to remember they broke Premier League rules by giving us a tiny allocation for the last game at Maine Road so were forced to give us a bigger allocation and subsidise the tickets for the 3-1 game!
