Watch a few things from Orsic. A minute or two after coming on he was shouting and pointing to JWP and KWP about who to press. The guy has been talked up by dynamo fans as a leader. In his little time in the pitch we saw that already. Can only be a good thing for this team.

We've been missing that for so long. Ever since Fonte left we've been lacking any sort of confident leadership on the pitch.

Second leg at theirs will be impossible

Nah we got this. Lyanco will bully them off the pitch.

Plus we all saw where their priorities are after shef wed game. They have to get CL as it blows wide open the FFP restrictions and will be transformative. Plus their starting to feel their smaller squad.

Worst draw out of who’s left and away 2nd leg.

Still, it’s better than being drawn against City and set up another possible Saints - Man United final.

Would love us to play like we did tonight and set the record straight from 2017.

I reckon a lot of people would've said exactly the same about Anfield.

Predictable that Newcastle and Utd would be kept apart. Think Newcastle is probably the worst draw.

No way we man beat united over two legs right now imo. They're on a roll and people still haven't clocked on to what ETH has done there imo. With Newcastle they've got to travel down here and we have that first leg to turn them over and get our foot in the door. Take a lead back to SJP and we've got a good chance.

From the worst home performance (against a crap team) followed by one of the best in a long time (against one of the best in the world). I can't imagine such a difference between two consecutive home games, ever.

P.S. Here is the list of teams to beat Manchester City in 90 minutes in the League Cup over the past seven years.

Manchester United
Saints

No idea where that came from, that's the best we've played in years! Everyone did their bit but Lyanco in particular was outstanding.

Hope people get off Jones' back for a bit now and give him a chance. Continue to play like that and with a few new additions maybe we can save this season. A semi final to look forward to as well!

Think Jones should be added to MOM, to turn this team around so quickly in a week is a performance I don't think I've seen from us before.

Weve been horrible but improving but tonight we were a pressing machine who had players who scored awesome goals.

Nathan Jones......

Really proud, Proud of the players, myself...we have been questioned a lot, which is to be expected

We had to put in a great performance and I am proud. Another cup win but part of the building of performances

We have given silly goals away, silly chances away and we have lacked confidence.  This has been building

I have just been in the job with 1 day to prepare for my first game, but we are building and we are on the way

Players not boo'd as much as me, but we have made too many silly errors at the back and up top, which we still need to work on

Our cup ties have been against premier league sides and we have shown we can beat these teams.  We have to transfer this to the next game

I hope this acts as a statement.  I wont get carried away, but we need time to change direction

The previous manager did a wonderful job but the last year has not been good

we had to take the proverbial, but that is part of the challenge, but there needs to be a bit of realism and everyone on side.

I will be up to 3am watching everton tonight, then we have a long day tomorrow

At least I wont be getting abuse on the way home

Can't speak about new DoF until announced. In short, it is a new regime, who have take lots of flack, we just need more results

He's clearly been a bit taken aback by the speed and intensity of the abuse he walked into. And he's not going to quickly let it go. Fair enough I suppose.

Is this a one off performance?

is this what we can expect going forward?

Maybe not the level we saw tonight but if we can play with the same attitude, tactics and confidence.

The way we have played so far this season we should be cut adrift but we aren’t.

Wow.

I don’t know where to start. Probably “why can’t we play like that every match”.

Couldn’t call MOTM today, everyone on that pitch was very good, very calm, very composed. There were a few standouts in DCC, Lyanco, Lavia and even Armstrong there. JWP was an engine. And the subs were very good when they came on, i.e. Elyounoussi.

Yes it wasn’t a full strength City team but that shouldn’t take away from the fact that Saints performance was very impressive.

No excuses at the weekend now.

Jones In - for tonight. 👏🏻

Interview largely was fair enough.

A few pointed comments re the flack he had, but fair enough after a cracking win and was reasonable.

We're a fairly level fanbase compared to some. We don't go as negative as others, and we don't go overboard either. Suspect the fans will now back him and the team and have some patience now.

Only said, "with greatest respect" once. Which was a particular highlight for me. If he can get that down to 0 he'll have come a long way.

Tonight reminded me of when it all started to click for Poch in 2013 and we’d start playing the big boys off the park. Let’s hope it continues (though I’m still worried about Everton away).

I felt that interview was revolting. Childish. And quite sad.

Onuohua is a refreshingly good pundit

He really is.  Also a regular on the Guardian Podcast and is equally excellent on that
