CB Fry Posted 7 January, 2023 Posted 7 January, 2023 If we can continue on the current pattern of form for the rest of the season* then it will be most satisfactory for me. *by which I mean lose every league match we play but win every cup match we play from now until end of May. 4
Baird of the land Posted 7 January, 2023 Posted 7 January, 2023 Can we have a middle of the ground thread for those that aren't Jones in or Jones out. The Jones Irrelevance thread maybe. 3 1
Behind Enemy Lines Posted 7 January, 2023 Posted 7 January, 2023 Jones IN for cup games, OUT for league games? Genius thinking 😂 1

Miltonaggro Posted 7 January, 2023 Posted 7 January, 2023 Jones currently in. In Greggs in Thornton Heath on his own.

Charlie Mealings Posted 7 January, 2023 Posted 7 January, 2023 If anyone is interested, I wrote about Ralph and Nathan, and how they both spent week practicing 3 at the back behind closed doors only to have it blow up in their faces. https://cmealings.substack.com/p/a-tale-of-two-systems-ralph-nathan 1
Toussaint Posted 7 January, 2023 Posted 7 January, 2023 (edited) I was behind him until Forest, like a lot of us I was very angry the way it panned out. If he turns things round, or shows signs of turning things round I’ll be fully back on side. However, I feel there are so many that have taken up an entrenched hostile position against him he will always have the sword of Damocles hanging over him. I’m not worried how we do it, (style of play), I just want us to stay up. I don’t think we have a side that will do well in the championship, I know many do, I think we would have a few years of struggle should we drop. Better to rebuild without being relegated. Many of our fans have a warped view of the lower league due to the Adkins years. Getting relegated to ‘rebuild’ is a ridiculous idea. Just ask Huddersfield, Reading, West Brom, Bolton, Blackburn, Blackpool, Portsmouth, Stoke, Charlton, Sunderland. I could go on and on. If/when we go down, there’s as much chance of us not coming back for 20 years as there is coming back next season. 9

CB Fry Posted 7 January, 2023 Posted 7 January, 2023 I think really we have to accept that Nottingham Forest are a phenomenal team and I can't see them losing again for a while. 3
Mr X Posted 7 January, 2023 Posted 7 January, 2023 Definitely out! an improvement yes and we broke a losing run but means nothing in the scheme of our survival, start winning In the league and fast and the fan base may give him as much time as Ralph 2
Kings Chase Saint Posted 7 January, 2023 Posted 7 January, 2023 I think in Jones defence he has had most of our best players not fully fit. Lavia, KWP, Bella Kotchap, Stu Armstrong & Tino (6 key players not fully fit) and if Orsic and another striker get up to speed in the Prem we could have a strong team. I think managers often need a bit of luck. Eddie Howe when he got relegated with Bournemouth was someone we wouldn't have wanted and his stock was low. Now he's being touted as the next England Manager and transformed the Magpies. Potter has done the same at Chelsea in reverse. I think if we can keep our best players fit and the 6 I've quoted in my view are our best players apart from JWP then we can do well. The criticism I would have of Jones is that it was clear after the Liverpool game that 4 at the back worked far better and it's something most can see so I hope he has got the message now! 1
danjosaint Posted 7 January, 2023 Posted 7 January, 2023 What a load of shit, yeah we pressed a bit better but still no real shape, 2 goals handed to us on a plate and very little else, cant stand the prick, and if Abk was fit he wouldve played 5atb, now would be perfect time to go, players on a bit of high from result and fresh outlook from new more experienced manager 3

I've always been against the "would you take getting relegated but winning the cup?" But TWO cups wins and relegation? Given that we are odds on for going down anyway, I'd be very tempted to take that.

Daft Kerplunk Posted 7 January, 2023 Posted 7 January, 2023 To me, the players looked like they changed the style of football they were playing after the fans chants of ‘Nathan Jones, your football is shit’. Definitely less aimless balls pumped forward. Maybe there were strong words at halftime from the players. It’s rubbish for them to hear chants like that when it’s what they’ve been asked to do. As it’s unlikely the board will get rid of Jones, hopefully he will be a quick learner and realise the players we have aren’t suitable for long ball football (clearly we fans hate it because aimless long ball football bypassing the midfield is totally shit) and adapt. There were signs today of some fight in the players and JWP in particular was more vocal than I’ve ever seen him. Maybe we will be able to drop the chants about an opposition being shit because we are beating them soon. 2

So what your saying is when we play shit it’s jones fault. But when we play better, and win, it’s the players (with the help of the fans geeing them up). The half time turn around isn’t down to the manager, but the players dishing out a bollocking to the manager . No bias there then 😂 Edited 7 January, 2023 by Lord Duckhunter 2

For the record, I want Jones to succeed as he’s our manager so no bias at all. I was actually at the match and could see a change in the players approach. If it was down to the players, or Jones, at least after the break, then it was better and hopefully that’s a sign of improvement. 👍🏼
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 8 January, 2023 Posted 8 January, 2023 He reminds me of a non-league manager who has just taken the scalp of a Division III side, with the way he speaks and generally conducts himself. He has the scatter gun aura of Liz Truss and the gravitas of Boris Johnson. Watch us beat City now. 1

Jeremy Corbyn Posted 11 January, 2023 Posted 11 January, 2023 That first half was superb. We'll see if it's a flash in the pan or geniune progress. 1

Turkish Posted 11 January, 2023 Posted 11 January, 2023 (edited) Fantastic stuff tonight. I do wonder what’s happened at half time at Crystal Palace. We’ve gone from a team lumping long balls into the penalty area and looked hopeless to a team playing decent football and were better all over the pitch than Man City. Something had dramatically changed Edited 11 January, 2023 by Turkish 2
Harry_SFC Posted 11 January, 2023 Posted 11 January, 2023 Well it's safe to say the players are behind him. What a display. 1
Miltonaggro Posted 11 January, 2023 Posted 11 January, 2023 Fair play to Nathan Jones. Credit where it’s due, looked like a completely different side tonight - odd, but very welcome. COYR! 1

Something had dramatically changed I thought the second half at Fulham, where there was a lot more playing to feet and driving forward was going to be the change that got us going, but then we obviously followed up with the dross that we did. hopefully now it’s embedded into everyone how we should play what I loved from this game was at no point did we sit back and invite pressure, we were always looking to have the ball, move the ball forward and get at city. long may this continue 2
AlexLaw76 Posted 11 January, 2023 Posted 11 January, 2023 Doff my hat. He came out fighting in his interview and I do not blame him Fair play and a bit of fight we have lacked for some time..... 3
Turkish Posted 11 January, 2023 Posted 11 January, 2023 I tell you what it would be bloody hilarious if we win the league cup and he keeps us up. 95% of this forum wanted him out after Forest, I was one of them. Still a long way to go but maybe this week has been the start of the turnaround. Let’s see what happens Saturday 2

It doesn’t strike me as that he’s lost / never had the dressing room. Whatever happened, credit where it’s due, it’s a sign of a good manager to admit mistakes and be willing to learn / change. We’ll Likely go down under Jones, but if we play like tonight there’s potential there. 2
Sunglasses Ron Posted 12 January, 2023 Posted 12 January, 2023 (edited) I have to say, after last night, I haven't got a clue what's going on or what to think of Nathan. But you have to give respect where it's due, that was an outrageous performance. With this in mind, I'm keeping my mouth firmly shut and will give him the time that any new manager deserves. Maybe he is the Skoda of football managers (something with pre-conceived negative connotations, but actually rather good in reality). Edited 12 January, 2023 by Sunglasses Ron 1
