Two problems with that:

  1. Most of them do give a f**k they just lack talent and good management.
  2. For another club to buy you, you have to look like you’re quite good and give a f**k.

Although for number 2, the players can always rely on a number crunching hipster to take a gamble on them.

Point 1 maybe, point 2 definitely not. Players will put it down to a bad season, bad management, anything but blame their own effort/performances. What do you think they pay agents silly money for? They'll get their move if they really want it

Just a striker and a midfielder now.  At least it shows they haven’t given up.

No one at the club has given up, it's just us weatherworn fans that have. I think its easier for us to see just how bad we are, because we just see the 90 minutes. Equally, the players and manager will believe that things could quickly click into place.

Maybe we were after this guy in the summer and he held out for a better club. And he's come now when nothing else worked out.

Good theory that. Impossible to turn down the massive wage we are no doubt paying. It will be several times what he was on and will set him up nicely. We are from an ideal destination in terms of league position, but money is king.

It's often a good sign when fans at his previous club hold a player in such, such high regard. He's not just 'liked' by their fanbase, he's absolutely adored and has legend status over there.

Bit of a late bloomer at 30, but it's weirdly refreshing to see us adding someone who has done it at the highest level of mens football - not kid football.

Also a childhood fan of DZ, so happy to move to get them a transefer fee.

Really happy with this signing.

Quality player who is comfortable playing the type of football Jones wants to play.  Great record at Zagreb particularly in Europe and plays for a quality international team.

I think just as important is his attitude and experience. Zagreb fans see him as a club legend and talk of his professionalism, work rate and attitude. These are qualities that can only improve what we have and it’s a position that clearly needed strengthening.

Can you describe what this is?

He wants to play in the world's biggest football league. It's that simple.

His wage being doubled wouldn't hurt either.

If he’s as good as you say surely a top six prem club we’re looking at him ?

not just West Brom and Burnley? I’m hoping he bangs a debut hatrick at Everton wot a start to his English campaign that would be .. he’d be a folk hero in these parts over night !

This will be interesting cos based on his normal position he will replace Eodzie which is classic southampton replacing our most promising attacker with a new player what about the righthand side and striker !!!

If Jones is still going hoof ball tomorrow then i am sorry Im done with him

It's fine. Edozie shouldn't be starting every match and can still make an impact from the bench. In the meantime he can learn from this guy. It's what smart teams who don't only sign young players do!

Maybe there is no wage cut if we go down, thus not needing a relegation clause.

Certainly possible. Either way it reminds me a little of Burnley getting Weghorst and in that I would be surprised to see him turn out for us in the championship.

In fairness I know sod all about his character, motivation etc. I'm making assumptions based on his stature/career phase.

Lets hope we wont have to find out.

After a bright start, Weghorst was poor for Burnley, which might partly explain why he isn't there right now. In the end it will come down to whether another high profile club will match the wages.

As good as he is, I'm not sure he is Man City or Arse quality.

In any event, he has buried the likes of Spurs, Chelsea and West Ham so he is clearly no mug - just be grateful that he is yours.

That said, you need to keep expectations real here - Dinamo Zagreb put a lot of their strategy into getting him the ball at the right time and in the right part of the pitch. It paid handsome dividends. His Champion League Hattrick against Atalanta is also worth searching for as it is another example as to how damaging he can be.

But - his talent will only be fully harnessed if your manager is good at his job AND his team mates can execute the game plan and time their passes and runs properly.

I would definitely give him at least 30 minutes in your FA cup match - the league is more important so you want him to get some familiarity with his team mates before the Everton game.

Once again, I wish you the best of luck!

Agreed. I'm trying to be very que sera sera about it. If we go down we've rode our luck one too many times and I'm less worried about SR letting the club implode that I was under Gao. If we stay up it will be great escape style and by god they are good rides!

Weghorst was an odd one, he looked a great fit for Burnley at the start and I thought they'd played a blinder only for him to fade away. A quick google shows he is averaging almost a goal every other game albeit in a lower standard league. The way Jones has us set up he could well do a job for us! I still look back with longing to the days of Lambert/Pelle with quality buzzing around them and linking with them.

Yeah unless we stay up it'll most likely be 8M for what is effectively a 6 month loan.

Obviously not a fan of his former club - but always had a huge respect for this guy and was wondering how he'd do in PL and frankly am dissapointed in how he's been used so far.

In those 20ish mins he's gotten so far - not a single one was in the position he was playing for the last couple of years ( and had flourished since ), left winger.

Idk has your manager ever seen him play before or has just concrentrated on earlier clips from his Korean days - but this isn't doing good to anyone but your opponents

Yes indeed, we have a clueless buffoon as a manager. Any chance we could have yours?

His whole career trajectory is weird. I don't know why, it's like he has a terrible agent and a lot of bad luck or something.

He had a really good season in the Croatian league at 21, then went to Spezia in Serie B, which was a weird move and too low for a promising winger who scored 12 goals in the Croatian league. Then back to Rijeka in Croatia. In neither of those he got a chance for some reason. Which is weird cause he does not seem like someone who's goofing off at all. Then went to China & Korea where he finally got playing time and had scored some goals - but given the strength of their leagues - not very impressive either. Then someone at Dinamo made the genius move to sing him up, I don't even understand why, they must have seen something in him more than statistics. No one expected much from a forgotten 26 year old with one good season 5 years ago. Then he had a legendary 4.5 years.

Now his move to Southampton looks like another horrible move again. Being an offensive player in a bottom of the league team is hard enough, add to that the Premier League being the hardest to adapt to league... He'd be an improvement for 3/4 of the Bundesliga at least... And the price of 6 + 2 mil € is also weird. Yes, he's not the youngest anymore but Dinamo has sold some backup/rotation players for more.

He didn't have more luck in the national team either. He has a problem that Perišić - our most match-deciding player for many years - prefers the left wing position (even though he's very versatile and can use both feet equally good). But even when he wasn't fit the coach would prefer someone else, even out of position. There were so many games for experimentation in the Nation's league, friendlies and qualifications, yet Oršić was only getting bits an pieces. It was crazy. Some kind of combination with Perišić right and Oršić left wasn't even tried even though we have no natural and good right winger. Many people were questioning why he's not been given more chances.

Then the World Cup came. Our defense was good and midfield could pass the ball around all day and get into the final 3rd but the attack was completely toothless and indirect. Perišić wasn't playing at his usual standard. Oršić seemed the perfect antidote to this, he always seeks to end the attack with something, he always thinks of the goal.  Any kind of change in the front 3 could only be an improvement. I was calling for Oršić in comments of popular articles and getting only upvotes, everyone was agreeing.

This is how much he played in the tournament:

Marocco 0/90

Canada 4/90

Belgium 0/90

Japan 14/120

Brazil 6/120

Argentina 45/90

Marocco 90/90

And in that limited time he managed to get 2 assists (Canada & Brazil) & 1 goal (Marocco 2nd game). Contributed to 3 out of 8 of our goals in the whole tournament in 159 minutes only. The coach looked like a complete idiot to me for this.

What the hell is going on with Orsic anyway.. this guy looked everything we wanted .. World Cup semi finalist, scored cracking goals against likes of West Ham Chelsea and hatrick vs spurs.,

why is he being totally isolated out of the team and nobody even seems to bother asking what’s going on with him ?

must be something dodgy behind the scenes here ..

Given that two different managers (with two different styles) dont think hes good enough to even make our bench and hes hardly pulling up trees with the u23s either, then its likely the issue is with the player. Either his fitness isnt up to scratch, or he doesn't understand the press or something else.

On the face of it, another wasted January signing along with Tall Paul, Sulemana and Bree. Only Alcaraz proving his worth so far. Have we ever had a good January window?

Because he makes Moi look like Rivaldo. We’ve spent £6m on another Filip Djuricic.

I find this is a bit hard to believe though.. he was good enough at World Cup.. good enough to score past Chelsea good enough to get a hatrick vs spurs.. he’s proven himself against premiership clubs in the europa ..

fitness issues maybe, maybe a fall out but I don’t think this is ability related even though he looked a bit off the pace in the couple of games he did play
