Stud mark of doom Posted 4 January, 2023 Share Posted 4 January, 2023 On this day two years ago we were involved in another 1-0 home fixture. We beat Liverpool 1-0 with an early goal. We were also 4 point adrift - but of first place rather than safety. Mismanagement of the highest order. Nice light show though.
SotonianWill Posted 4 January, 2023 Share Posted 4 January, 2023 Missed the goal for Boris. The light show was not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Its crazy to see what Ralph delivered with that team - the key difference being that back then we had a very good striker to take the chances we created. Should be clear to everyone how much we've struggled since Ings was sold (bar a small purple patch for the young Broja); most of all the "expert" football people at SR... Yet the fact this was overlooked in the summer shows more than anything else that they simply don't know what they're doing and/or are incredibly complacent. Circa £100M to spend this summer and we still have an Ings shaped hole in the side - Now staring relegation in the face. And it’s also crazy to see how far Ralph disintegrated nearly everyone of those players. every player on that list is now a far inferior player and have been for a long while

Amazing- other than Ings (and, of course, the manager) I might stick my neck out and say that on paper that side looks weaker than our side last night. Such a pity the moneyball geniuses running the club forgot that scoring goals is quite important.

Yep, I agree. Clear as day how much difference having a reliable goalscorer makes to an overall mediocre squad (stating the bleedin' obvious I know).
