Glad we got the win; just a shame that all it will do is paper over the cracks. Still don't see Jones stepping up to the PL with his tactics.

Good work rate from Armstrong for his goal. Pleased for him.

Lowest ranked team at St. Mary's next round please.

Are Lincoln still in it?

Happy with the win. Good team effort to stop the rot.

Can't really comment on the manager yet as he's got the same players that have been useless and clueless since March last season.
If he manages to keep us up this season, job done - nice one. Else, we can't be surprised as it's been coming.

Today we battled hard and beat a team that's about level to us physically and technically. That's what we need until the end of the season.
There's 11 games to focus on and get points Everton, Villa, Wolves, Leeds, Leicester, West Ham, Palace, Bournemouth, Forrest, Fulham and Brighton. Anything would be a welcomed bonus.

Anyone else see Che giving Jones a bit of a pep talk/geeing up at the end? Never seen that before, a player seeming to encourage the manager.

Imagine it must be quite weird for him. Finally won but fully aware most people still want him gone and the fans had just been singing how shit he is 45 minutes ago 😂 Mixed emotions I'd say for Jones. Can't celebrate too much either or he'll be mocked for it just being a cup game and we're still shit etc etc.

We were still shite! 2 howlers from the Palace keeper

But how many times have we had howlers from Bazunu et al and howlers like Adams "header" vs Wolves?

Nice to get them for us for a change.

On the job training is always valuable, good of Adams, and international player, to provide Nat with some extra curricular coaching.

Have we just accidently won a game - certainly two very lucky goals.

Palace had more possession, 8 corners to our 1, 13shots to our 6... and we committed twice their number of fouls. Talk about winning whilst playing shite.

In most of the games we’ve lost we had more shots and more corners, even more possession against forest. Did we therefore deserve to win those? Or we’re we not playing shite?

Could not expect good football in those conditions but JWP passing was still sublime. Number of positives though:

we won, we came from behind, we scored two goals, great fans,Armstrong goal, we won away,we got stuck in, we are in the next round and will feel good tonight and tomorrow.

Well that was a pleasant surprise -  listened on Solent while I knocked up French Onion soup from scratch - turned out as good as the result.

Second half made a change to hear Adam and Jo being positive

Each to their own I guess. I didnt think we were shit. I hope we get some better players in but I’m happy enough  with the performance and hope we can take some confidence and move forward.

After a poor opening half hour I thought we just about shaded that in the end, albeit had some luck for both goals. It wasn't a great game by any means but even in our better seasons we would win away games like that. Was definitely much less hoofing than Wednesday night.

Found the negativity and abuse towards Jones from our fans when 1-0 down pretty embarrassing to be honest. I wouldn't have chosen him and I suspect we probably will go down but creating that sort of atmosphere is hardly going to help the players.

Happy with that.

Performance was disjointed and we keep missing that open play connection to give clear cut chances to our forwards but good old fashioned grit and effort got us through.

Players played with more confidence as we scored and to be honest palace didnt look the more likely to win after half time.

Lyanco did a great job on Zaha, credit where its due I thought him shutting down their best player made him my MOM.

Jones is not inflexible as he played 4 at the back and got a result, wasnt as long ball as the other games, we tried to play a bit.

JWP was his all action self, think we are still lightweight in midfield and especially on right hand side of attack and a striker but they will come.

This result will give the boys something to build on and show them that they can beat premier league teams.

Good job all round, lets hope this give Jones some more confidence cos any person whose been panned before he got the job and then the results were shit deserves some positivity for a bit.

Bit worried about Perraud, he's been a bit shit for a while now, he didnt offer too much attacking and i always get the feeling he's a walking yellow card as he gets pissed off too easily, why not try our smurf larios for a game or is he injured.

Anyway hopefully we get someone uber shit in the next round.

‘Hardly going to help the players’. Apart from the fact they won you mean? Fans are not obligated to happy clap. You pay your money, you have the right to voice your opinion. People should be able to cheer or complain as they see fit.

We were far from shite and based on 2nd half deserved the win

I thought other than first 20/25 mins we were not too bad tbh, second half we played a bit more football, pleasing was a spell of about 10 mins when we pressed really well when Adams was off

Perhaps the fan reaction encouraged a better performance. It’s the most competitive league in the world. Don’t blame the fans when the players are crap. They get paid a fortune. It’s insulting to think they are so fragile.

Until we get midfield players that look to pass forward as a first option then I’m afraid we will be forced to be direct. First half we went long as no midfield player was brave enough to pop off quickly to receive and look to take on the turn. Unfortunately the story of the last couple of years and a main part of the problems we have imo

Did we look better/ more dynamic without Adams on, or just coincidence that the game was flowing that way anyway?

Thought we looked faster to be honest but Che was and has been fighting alone all season so deserved a rest.

I have said this almost from day 1, he is not good enough for this level of football. He's a championship level full back. Plenty of effort, but too slow and technically not quite good enough. As a back up, he would be fine, but he should not be first choice. Larios also puts a shift in, and has better technique, but again he is too slow and he's not first choice quality at this point. Left back is a weakness for us. One of many.

Exactly this. We never seem to have any of those clever players who drift into space to receive passes. Our players seem to position themselves with an opponent between them and the team mate with the ball.

Croatian groupies.

Come on bro you know the saintsweb research team has already shared what a Croatian groupie looks like.

I can only assume you've gone to the school of thought where you learn what's the difference between a dog and a fox ?

I agree travelling fans can voice their opinion how they like, but I have to say when the fans booed at the solitary long ball of the first half, I wasn't impressed. We didn't play long balls today. It was short stuff out from the back. I know we are all very frustrated, but it seems some couldn't wait to find a stick to beat Jones' back with.

Playing long sometimes makes sense. If you become predictable, as we had under Ralph, you get caught in possession and it leads to goals conceded.

Did he really say that?

I am not actually sure we have been high tempo since he came in.  Maybe in the second half today? Maybe spells at Anfield and Craven Cottage. Not sure.

Yeah I sort of got the sense as soon as the first long ball went the defender was like oh fuck I shouldn't of done that. Definitely played better out of the back today but so far this season our back 4 or 5 isn't my worry, it's just everything else.

Someone needs him to define what high tempo means ?

Long balls can be high tempo, passing through the lines can be high tempo etc

Recycling between defenders and midfield definitely isn't.

I'm not bothered about possession ever since Leicester won the league with terrible possession stats.

People know when we are shite, and we are fucking shite, with a shite manager.

In 2005, we could all see it and we got to what, the 1/4 of the FA cup then???

My view from being at the game today was that we were decent. Nothing we could really blame the manager for, we were actually working as a group this time but we just didn’t have the quality in the end ball.

We just need someone with a bit of incision up top who will gamble a bit with their movement (there was one cross in particular today later in the first half where both Adams and Armstrong were on their heels) and that would be a big help. We also need someone who takes responsibility and actually had a shot from time to time too. Quite a few occasions in the second half where there was a good opportunity for a shot and no one took it on.

Even when we play ok, we are still miles of the likes of Brighton in terms of sheer quality. They always passed at the right time and took a touch at the right time. We as a squad just don’t have that level of good decision making on the pitch which really makes the difference.

Saying that though I though Aribo and AMN for all their critics had a good game today along side JWP. They both battled well and showed a good level of physically - it was the first time for a while we didn’t seem to get totally bullied in midfield. They were trying to make things happen too, it just didn’t seem to register with other players at times.
