Yes, first one for all of 18 days.

Have a day off you drama queen.

That triumphant victory against the mighty Lincoln will live long in the memory. I hope they bring out a DVD of it.

Thought we were better than them from half an hour in. I'd be well hacked off if I was a Palace fan, they went pretty strong and lost at home to the worst team in their league.

The goals were a bit lucky but who cares how they go in if they go in.

We definitely played more football today, started passing through the middle more comfortably and put some half decent moves together. Shows that we can compete when we play.

Let's hope this is a turning point.

Fucking hell. How many posters were banging on about 3 at the back even though it clearly wasn’t.

People have made their minds up NJ is shit, and "3 at the back long ball" have become sticks to beat him with. Even when we pass it short, out from the back for the entire game, the word "ugly' football is used to describe us to undermine him.

We are not great. We are not even good, but we got stuck in fought hard and won away. Time to give some credit. There will be plenty of other occasions in which to chastise.

Very nice to find a decent stream that doesn't constantly break up/try to download malware

Nice to stay in the cup & nice to get our moments where we take advantage of a team's mistakes.

Thought AMN was good again as he was in Fulham game. (Thought it was odd he was dropped)

Lyanco was good out of position. He's currently the boo boy but personally feel he's been decent much of the time but it's meaningless if unlike today he has a complete brain fart moment a game that leads to a goal/penalty.

Aribo looks better centrally. Can we please not play him out wide again.

Good to see A.A get a goal. Still not convince by him but then not really convinced by much of our attacking players & would prefer Tella to most of them.

Interesting no S.Armstrong. Is he off. Also wonder if Jones doesn't entirely fancy Lavia, would have thought he'd have been on to secure the game.

Also noticeable how it seems we feel freer playing away from home than at home( Fulham/Palace) games vs (Brighton/Forest ) games

Take a look back at the pre-match sneering and disgust. It's so unfair and unhelpful. Football is never as bad as it looks when it's bad, nor as good as it looks when it's good. There's soooo much luck in the game.  We were lucky today. And unlucky before.  But I really hope we give the club benefit of the doubt these next few weeks.  Just need one win in the premier league, and one or two more exciting players in,  and the world will feel v different.

I give Jones and the team some real credit for that game. Confidence naturally started at all-time low. But after going a goal down, they fought back intensely. It was great to see. Lyanco, who everyone was piling on pre-match, was seriously impressive. And Adam A's blistering pace played a huge part in forcing the error for our second goal.

Also saw JWP looking more like a captain than in recent weeks...   some team-pumping and encouragement visible. Don't usually see that.

All in all, proud of the team today, and remain hopeful we can still avoid the drop.

  • Lighthouse changed the title to Palace 1-2 Saints - The Treble is Alive!

Missed the game. How did we play? Any signs that Jones might have a clue?

Selection was/is very debatable. But we played four at the back, with Lyanco having a very good game against Zaha. He gave Aribo a free role and he did fuck all. Edozie and AA on the wings did OK.  Two central midfielders. We could easily have been 2-0 down, but second half of first half was mostly us keeping the ball and not threatening. Second half was mostly us. We pressed and forced Palace to make errors. The goal just before half time gave us confidence and my guess is Jones asked the side to push up a little and get tighter, be more physical and they were. Deserved the victory, all be it we struggled to create chances. We were't great. Palace are struggling too, but we got hod of the game and were pretty tight at the back. Palace also struggling to create much. Two poor sides. Great to win.

one swallow does not make a summer. We were still bloody awful and just plain lucky Palace absolutely gifted us 2 goals.

And we gifted Forest their winning goal.

You’re right , this changes nothing because judgement should be made over a number of games. That number is subject to debate.

JWP played like a captain, we pressed (Armstrong very much so for that goal), and the defence looked more comfortable in a 4. Pleasantly surprised with Lyanco at RB, particularly keeping Zaha relatively in check, and though he was tantalisingly close to a classic moment of madness maintain composure pretty well. Some real bravery and strong save from Bazunu. Hopefully a big boost to the lads' confidence even if there is still some real fragility there behind basic mistakes, but overall a good win!

Didn't expect us to beat Palace so credit where it's due. Winning in the cup is a confidence booster but it's the league games that really matter now. Here's hoping we take something from Everton next week, we're certainly due a result there. Hopefully Orsic will play plus any other new signings

The players worked hard second half. Playing for the manager?

yeah, why not. We used to get miles worse after a "Ralph halftime team talk" supposedly, well, maybe Jones' half time team talk worked wonders as we stepped it up, got tighter, got stuck in and that made a difference - forcing the errors that helped us grind out a win.

Maybe we had some luck with some of the referring decisions, with poor finishing from Palace and with bad judgement from their goalkeeper for the first goal but AA's goal was due to hard work. Throughout the season all of our strikers have chased down the opposing keepers in order to make them miss-pass under pressure and this time AA was quick enough to get a tackle/block in, keep control and score. Huge effort rather than luck.

Have we just accidently won a game - certainly two very lucky goals.

Palace had more possession, 8 corners to our 1, 13shots to our 6... and we committed twice their number of fouls. Talk about winning whilst playing shite.

That's just blinkered thinking . We weren't awful and we passed the ball for large stretches of the game.  People need to drop the confirmation bias and actually see what's in front of them. Next step is to actually work the keeper and not rely on opposition mistakes for goals.

I was thinking to myself not 5 minutes before that I'd be really pleased for Armstrong if he got a goal as he really needed one and boom. Ricket by the keeper but he still made it all himself by hard work and a little acceleration as he closed. It looked like his team-mates were pleased for him too, not just because it put us in front.

A lot better after half an hour: there were a few overhit long balls but nothing to worry about in the scheme of things and when we showed more bite and snappier passing it was much easier on the eye. Mara is beginning to show a little promise and I don't think we'll see much of Djenepo in the future.

Not saying it will happen, but wouldn't it be good if AA's goal kick-starts his season, and gives him the confidence to go on and score a few more. That in itself would be like a new signing.  Fair play to the lad for chasing that ball down causing the Palace keeper to f*** up.

First game I haven’t seen this season so reliant on radio commentary.  However real fans will celebrate this rather than the “let’s lose to try to get Jones out” brigade.  I learned that lesson two decades ago with Wigley!

Positives seem to be:

- Jones playing back four and it sounded pretty secure

- only one goal per game conceded last two games, which if maintained until end of season would give us a real chance

- work rate sounded good, so the towel definitely not being thrown in

Anyone expecting a transformation from us looking shite to suddenly playing free flowing football is naive, so baby steps but good nonetheless.

Given this could easily have been the result at Fulham too bar bad luck and stupidity at the back, could it be that St Mary’s is becoming harder for our fragile confidence than going away?

Twice as many shots on target than they did to be fair

Is it weird that we seem to play better on the road than at home?
