‘Academy manager’ seems a bit of a misnomer. He was academy loans manager, or Player Pathway Lead as it was officially dubbed. Sounds like it was a bit of a research and player/clubs liaison role rather than coaching.

I remember the glory days when we recruited David chell, Man City’s head of corporate sales and we were so proud we could bring this calibre of person in. Now we’re losing people to a league one club we’ve just knocked out the caribo cup. Where the ambition?

Earlier this week the club got fined for their accademy recruitment procedure when signing a young player.  I'm probably jumping to the wrong conclusion but with Danny Butterfield leaving with immediate effect just wondering if the two are linked.

Wouldn't have thought so. The title of this thread needs changing because under no circumstances was Butterfield the academy manager or anything like it. He was the loan manager, keeping on top of, in touch with and organising players who were on loan. It was an admin/man management role and he'd have played little/to no role in recruitment or on the pitch development of players.

It seems to be "a new tradition " for Saints to give former players some experience and help them along the road in a coaching / management career.

...but I expect him to come back with a request for one or two of our Academy lads on loan.

Would be a win-win situation, with DB knowing what the player(s) are capable of, and said loans would get invaluable experience of League football.
