Got to play them at some point I suppose.

That's a really grim fixture pile up now.

31st Dec Fulham

4th Jan Forest

7th Jan Palace

9th/10th Jan City

14th Jan Everton

No way do Saints have a squad big enough to face that lot at full strength.. Some injuries or suspension very likely.

Worrying

Would rather than play them now at home than over 2 legs or even at Wembley if we made it, though to be fair a day at Wembley would be an occasion itself.

If we do go out at the QF stage then the silver lining is more recovery time to focus on survival.

This is me sugarcoating anyway…

I agree with most of what you've put here.... except your use of the word "if"... 🤣 We could barely beat Lincoln, let alone the best club side in the world.

Worrying

I will never understand the generation of fans who seem absolutely desperate for us to play as few matches as is humanly possible. Two weeks in a row of midweek plus weekend games and it's meltdown time.

"Worrying". Jesus wept.

It’s literally the best fun as I had as a saints fan, when we were in the championship and league 1 and going to games on a Saturday then Wednesday. All teams around us are in the same boat as well. And we all know that we’ve got a squad that is large but mediocre, so we can swap like for like at will.

Weep as much as you want you utter melt, but I imagine what he was referring to was the fact we have a woefully bad and small squad which won’t handle playing every few days.

It won’t be much fun either, as it should be, because we’re likely to lose most of them. Watching us win or compete every few days is fun, watching us lose every few days not so much.

Now fetch a tissue for yourself and Jesus. Don’t let yourself get too upset now.

That reads to me like you weeping, not me sweetheart. Cheer up, its Christmas x x x x

My point is the people who value "rest" and obsess about fixture pile up will do it regardless of how good we are.

We probably will go down because we're not very good. If you honestly believe that if we s p r e a d  t h e  g a m e s  o u t so that our delicate flowers only ever played once every eight days then we'd magically turn into a wonder team the you're more thick than I already thought you were. Maybe a tight run of games will help build the team and the ideas the new manager wants in place. Maybe that.

My Football team keeps playing football matches like every three days and it's not fair why don't they stop wah wah wah wah wah

Chin up x

Waste of time. The big clubs are simply too powerful now and the days of overturning them in the Cups are receding. The playing field is nothing like level. Welcome to football in the 21st century Qatar v Dubai, Saudi v Doha etc etc

I’d play the kids and show disdain for a competition that’s no longer competitive in the true sense of the word.

I prefer the old days when we had the likes of France v Bristol and England v Reykjavik.

Would have preferred to avoid city. At least at qtr final stage you’d think we may be facing a second string team, which at least gives us a slight chance.

They do not play 2nd string sides in the cups (whilst the manager moans about player burnout)

Oh come on not a meltdown. One is allowed to worry about a fixture congestion that the club simply does not have the resources to cope with.

First time I've been lumped in with a 'generation', mine sadly is old fart.

I do totally agree they should take it in their stride. They do in the EFL, so why not the Prem.

Hopefully January will bring in some reinforcements.

We will be out of the League Cup and FA Cup in the next couple of weeks, so no fixture congestion really

Oh bollocks I thought when that draw came out.

But...

It is better than being drawn away and losing at the likes of Newcastle or Leicester.

And...

Imagine how the mood of the club and fans will change if by some miracle Nathan's boys can hold on for 90 minutes and then sneak it on penalties.

Oh it wouldn't be good enough. Our fans would find something to whinge about.

2nd string doesn't really exist at Man City.

All of their players piss over ours in their sleep, no matter who they put out.

that's the spirit.

Things don't look great at the moment, but a a couple of good performances and a few wins and the vibe around the club could change quite quickly. It feels like mission impossible right now, but maybe by the time that game come around we will be in a different place.

Exactly, such negativity here. You just never know, we could squeak a 1-0 win against City reserves and then stand a great chance of losing to Charlton in the semi final.

City's fixture congestion around our game looks interesting though.

5th Jan - Away to Chelsea - Premier League

8th Jan - Home to Chelsea - FA Cup

10th Jan - Away to Saints - EFL Cup

14th Jan - Away to Man Utd - Premier League.

In terms of overall "importance" to them, I would suggest ours is the least important.  Just trying to spread a little cheer on here.

Not exactly the best draw, but at least it’s at home. The Club will give away the biggest allocation of the Northam they possibly can, diminishing further still what is an already quiet ‘home end’. So a pretty shit atmosphere to kick things off.

Even if  they play their 2nd team we’ll get a good tonking the way we’ve been playing, so the most positivity I can muster for this is that it will provide much needed game time for the two new super-signing attackers we’ll be getting. Yeah right.

Good shout, although I think Jones will rest players as well with us having a trip to Everton on Saturday 14th

Almost certainly means our game v Man City will be wednesday 11th Jan as they play Sunday before
