Presumably Germany's early exit from the World Cup will mean ABK can join up with the squad in Spain?

You can’t see the usual post tournament extended break for the players involved, with everyone back at it so soon after the final.

Who knows what’s been agreed - obviously he has been training whilst the rest of Saints have been kicking back for a couple of weeks prior to this week. It’s a strange one really as I would imagine most of the European Leagues who would be traditionally preparing for the winter break now, are like us getting ready to get going again………..pretty sure I will be corrected on this by those who have looked it up.

Nah but good experience for him, hopefully pushes him on to break into the German team.

Can imagine they’ll be having a bit of a reset over the next few years, like they did a while ago. Expect him to be more heavily involved over the next few years.

If he continues to impress with us, I would imagine the breakthrough in the German team could well happen this season. Apart from Rudiger the German defence is average at best.

Salisu as well

They're our only two at the WC aren't they?

I know Bednarek is there, but I don't really count him (unless Villa decides to send him back)

Yep.

After years of racking up caps for Poland due to a lack of competition at CB, Bednarek has now been ousted by Jakub Kiwior (plays for Spezia). Maybe hes regretting his loan move. Likely would have gotten more minutes at us, especially with ABKs injury and us playing 3 at the back some games

Dom Ballard and Jimmy-Jay Morgan, not playing for the U21's tonight.

On the plane to Spain?

More likely ready for the FA Youth Cup tomorrow. Very strange to have 2 fixtures for the youngsters on successive nights.

We lost 2-0 to Bristol City. Blimey.

Where did you find that DT? I’ve looked everywhere including on BCFC site….but nothing. We lost 2-0 there 27.11.11….but can’t see a dickie bird about a friendly result this weekend.

Hat trick for Ballard. He’s got to be knocking on the door sometime soon….

Great start for Nathan Jones 🙄

Not great is it. I'd like to see a teamsheet though. The B team was a scratch team so hopefully the team against Bristol City was a team of youngsters and fringe players 🤞🤞

The best young players were playing the youth cup yesterday hence the B team being so young. Therefore everything suggests it would have been our available first team squad.

Sounds likely: https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bristol-city-premier-league-revealed-7861176

and...

Tommy Conway scored both goals apparently. Heard a lot of good things about him.

Obviously too early to panic, but you have to say that scoreline provides a tad of a concern. Would love to see the possession stats too and to know if they hit us on the break. One thing it would strongly suggest is relegation will be a disaster with the Championship requiring another big rebuild of the squad etc. - i.e, there’ll not be an immediate bounce back to the Prem.

Attack wise you're correct, but not at the other end. Payne, Small, Lawrence, Finnigan, Otseh-Taiwo are B team regulars and none featured in the B or u18 games. If they played at City as part of a "Saints Xl" it's a bit different than our best Xl going there and losing. It could be as simple as Jones wanting to see how the above faired against City to see if they could step up. I'll judge the result when I know the team we put out.

Ballard scored a hatrick yesterday, this kid looks a real prospect

Ditto Morgan. As good as it was to see them so well for the B and u18 teams, it's players like that I want playing at Bristol City in a friendly.

I doubt ABK and Salisu would have featured, so defensively the team would be weaker.

Hopefully it was the B team defence showing the manager/board that they're not the answer and that reinforcements are needed.

Ugh, I keep forgetting that we'll return to the hell that is the PL in a few weeks. The World Cup has been a nice distraction.

i’m really looking forward to the return, the WC has been good but I wouldn’t say I care about it.

Drove past the stadium this morning and the team coach was parked up there. Am guessing they're jetting off to Spain today then?

Arriving on Monday 5th I think. Nice place, the Andalucian coast

Will be interesting to see if Lavia is in the squad that goes to Spain.

Whilst they said it was cramp when he went off at Anfield I reckon it was injury. He hasnt been in any training pics/videos and has just put up a back soon style IG post.

If he is out then its critical KWP is back for the late Dec games as AMN will be needed in midfield.

Considering ABK and Sali to come back in its a decent looking squad until you get to the attacking section.

Not sure Ryan Fraser would change my mind on that either!

Out of that lot I'd say the only real quality we have is KWP, Lavia and Livramento. Then ABK when he comes back too. In my opinion that's not enough to stay up but we'll see. Not looking forward to the Premier League restart but then I am a bit of a Pessimistic Pedro.

Only as good as your forward players, and ours are the worst set in the league. Unless this changes, we go down.

They are probably going down anyway but it’d be good to see the club go balls out to strengthen genuinely with more mature players in the forward, 10 areas. Whether those players would join given the dire league position is another matter. Crazy this wasn’t addressed in the summer along with replacing Ralph.

Still, we’ve heard from the owners and Semmens - they’re thrilled with how things are going.

Interesting to see Morgan and Payne make it in the list but not Ballard, Dibling or Doyle.

Yep, that'll be tough for Ballard you'd imagine. Not surprised re Payne though, but Small, Lawrence and Finnigan came out of nowhere.

I'm looking forward to the restart, nervous of course as we have to hit the ground running - but the timing of the WC break is perfect for us. A chance to regroup and for NJ to get his approach across. We are a striker and a creative midfielder away from having a decent side. With the confidence of a couple of quick wins I think we can aspire to the giddy height of mid-table mediocrity.

My caveat is we need Lavia and KWP fit and performing well and those new goal-scorers to come in. Whoever said Wood on loan from Newcastle...I agree. Would never have picked him as an exciting first choice but he is a big target man, better with his feet than given credit for and knows the PL, no need for a settling-in period we can't afford.
