Frank's cousin Posted 27 January, 2009 Posted 27 January, 2009 I don't think RinNy is a plant and he usually posts very sensible points of view. In this instance though, his criticism of Mary's judgement is faulty because she had very little to do with the financial side of running the club, or other decisions that resulted in our current parlous state. True I dont think MC had anything to do with the financial aspects of the club... that was Leon. BUt if MC is going to take part in the debate its surely right that her input/or stand is questioned or open to question. It seems to me that its fine for everyone to criticuise Lowe... and the history of his mistakes has been documented many times, but as soon as anyone attempts to point out failings in the others its suddenly open season on insults and 'luvvie' rhetoric. We are falling into the same trap as we did last time - the overwhelming feeling is that Lowe should go - fair enough, but last time no one questioned how the PROBLEMS would be solved when replaced by Wilde and Crouch and LM and MC were brought back in a very populist move - sure it was great PR and no one questions these folks history with Saints but it was ineffective in solving the PROBLEMS that are so engrained - the fact remains that simply ousting Lowe from the boardroom did not solve anything - and we are now in a worse state because Wilde and CRouch in their desire to do good by the fans messed up financially - the reason was sound from a footballing perspective, but naive from a long term future of the club perspective. That is all some of us are after - a recognistion that just because someone is NOT Lowe, does not mean those most likely to regain control or with a history at the club have the answers - no one has yet come forward and presented a solution let alone one that is viable - its all been about personalities, manager choice and public dirty washing airing.
OldNick Posted 27 January, 2009 Posted 27 January, 2009 What a huge, f**k off great chip you have on your shoulder! Not read a post of such rubbish in a long time, other than that of the other bigoted idiot, Sundance, in his latest incarnation as 'Nineteen Canteen'. Do you always support people that destroy the club, continually, and slate those whose family have propped the club up?! FFS.I like your avatar. I have come to the conclusion there is not a person or fan who has not contributed to our downfall. I hold my hand up for phoning the club and saying I would want refunds on my season tickets if GH was appointed and those words that now haunt 'Im prepared to accept relegation rather than have Judas back' Rupert Lowe for some odd decisions , not replacing Wigley sooner. many fans for putting pressure on the board and supporting the Wilde bunch the players for being too weak and letting 2 goal leads slip LC and the execs for not reinging in costs you get my drift I hope.WE ALL in some way have been part of the demise. It wont happen but our only way forward is to unite and if it is true LC is coming with money perhaps then ewe can have some peace.
fareham saint phil Posted 27 January, 2009 Posted 27 January, 2009 Nick you really should think before posting sometimes - I know you do not intentionally offend but some fact finding would stand you in good stead. Around this time John Corbett (servant and saviour on many times of the club since 1936) was an ill old man who was taken advantage of by Askham and Co, who "allegedly" tried to swindle him out of his shares. He certainly was not up to voicing his concerns. I have to say it is saddening to read so many "passionate" Saints supporters dont even know of John Corbett and what he did for the club on many occasions, surfice to say that if he hadn't done what he done no one would have heard of rupert ****ing lowe as there wouldn't be a southampton football club in exsistance. Fair point to question Mary Corbetts abilty to run a football club but certainly not to question her loyality and passion towards this once great club. This is not putting her on a pedestal or handing her the mother theresa award for services to mankind, but she has had her say just like everyone on here has
JohnnyFartPants Posted 27 January, 2009 Posted 27 January, 2009 Jesus, do you have a second post in your repetoire ? Pots and kettles.

Even with Crouch's Money if that occurs we are not going to be that successful in CC and the fans wont like that. That is the reason I liked the idea of getting in really good young players and developing them but that takes time The average fan does not appear to want to wait success today is the most important criteria for them but is not always possible.

Fair enough, Frank. But people ought to get their facts right before levelling criticism against the various protagonists in this soap opera, which RinNy failed to do. Lowe's failings are well documented, mainly because they are many. What has Mary Corbett done that merits much comment? Her right to criticise comes through her family's shareholdings, which are equivalent to those held by the Chairman who is the individual most accountable and responsible for our current demise. If you'd care to point out her failings, go ahead. But as proportionately they are insignificant compared to those of Lowe, Wilde and Crouch, Askham and other charlatans, then understandably they ought not to receive as much debate as the others mentioned.

Thankyou Duncan,i do understand what the late John Corbett did for the club and must have been a great man.My point crudely put across was that decisions good and bad were taken when the family were on board. As for people trying to buy their holding cheaply, it does not surprise me.I suspect the people who tried are still at the club hiding in the shadows. Perhaps my criticism is unfair, and i dont wish to be offensive to anyone who is trying to help the club, but I tire of people popping up during times of crisis and stirring the pot. We need someone with a bit about them to pull the 3 main parties together and get them pulling in 1 direction.

I have not pointed out failings because as you the only one really was supporting Wilde without first checking the validity of his claims, (something that any fans are equally guilt of) and perhaps allowing too free a role of the purse strings when Wilde then Crouch was in charge - although its fair to question whether she may have had any influence over the PLC board, which is unlikely anyway. But its the principle that I am advocating. Just because in the grand scheme of things a like for like comparison between any of the protagonists clearly shows lowes errors to far outway the others, does not mean the others have the answers either - as the previous reginme showed. Now I would be more than happy for anyone in this sgae to come forward and viable soltion - like I ahev said I WILL support any of them that do/can whatever their past mistakes (afterall we all make them) and I have no bias as to who I would prefer - just the one with the best plan - but we need to stop assuming that its likely to come from Aor B simplye because they are NOT C.
Scummer Posted 27 January, 2009 Posted 27 January, 2009 I suspect the people who tried are still at the club hiding in the shadows. There seem to be an awful lot of shadows at SMS these days. Have we stopped replacing the bulbs to cut costs?

ottery st mary Posted 27 January, 2009 Posted 27 January, 2009 Mary Corbett is NOT trying to run this football club, she is a true fan and is obviously very passionate about Saints. It is quite clear she has tried her utmost to unite the right people to run this club in very sad times. It is a pity that certain boardroom Directors/Chairman have never had a true love for Saints. Men and their damn Egos, my wife would say about me quite regularly. I would always say its Ruperts fault, even when I was in the services. Mary Corbett and family will be here long after Lowe and Wilde have gone.
