New scout joins from Athletico Madrid

Ferrero:

"I had a connection with Southampton in the summer, we met and I liked their philosophy,”

“They offered me this position to monitor the market in Spain and Portugal and now I want to feel what it’s like to be a ‘Saint’.

“The club’s philosophy is to go for players who haven’t reached their ceiling, who can be revalued, like goalkeeper Bazunu, Salisu, or Roméo Lavia. And to find players who can perform immediately in order to achieve our objectives. That’s what we’re looking for.”

Is he a firm number 9 or can he also play in the 10 position? 😜

Seriously it's refreshing to hear us wanting to tap into the youth in the Spanish market - we got a lot of mileage out of Romeu who was La Masia trained and have been linked with other Barcelona youth players over the years (Tello for one) so it would be nice to see us raid that market for talented youth. (As long as it's not too late and we go down before we get the chance to.)

As long as we don't sign another Juanmi or Carrillo

Juanmi was quality, as we've seen at Betis. He just didn't settle in England.

Carrillo was an Argentinian signed from France. Our new Spain & Portugal scout will struggle to find one of those (thankfully).

He was for us. That being said, he only cost a quarter of what we paid for the Donkey.

Couritio or whatever his name is barely got a chance. He was awful, admittedly however if we'd given him the amount of chances that these academy graduates get before we finally realise they aren't good enough, he might have done something. I mean, I doubt it but you never know.

Juanmi wasn't a bad player.

Didnt we sign him for £5m and sold him for £3m or something, hardy the end of the world.

He also had a great song too, but barely ever got sung for obvious reasons. I remember singing it a lot when in Denmark for the Midgetland game.
