Only saw it in real time but was Perraud's 'handball' a legitimate pen shout? Looked fairly clear in the ground and surprised missed.

Writing this off as teething troubles, hopefully players and fans alike pick up soon, home games are a tough watch these days.

In the PL it would depend which VAR official is making up the handball rules that day. Came off a head onto his arm, which was outstretched but probably not what most would call an "unnatural" position.

Put it this way, if it happened on Monday against Brighton, it wouldn't be a penalty. If it happened against Liverpool, Salah's already thinking about his celebration.

Not for me but then I am old school and think that hand ball should be deliberate. Now it seems if the ball hits you on the hand or arm there is a good chance of a penalty. They gave similar penalties in the WC even when players weren’t looking at the ball and had turned their backs.

probably given as a penalty in the prem, with VAR

Do Bazunu, Bella-Ketchup, Mara and Edozie not count as youngsters? Our summer transfer dealings also included AMN, Aribo and Caleta Car. So not sure why you think we are `writing off 80% of our transfer dealings'. Lavia was injured, so that means only one summer signing, Larios, was not involved.

Or by `youngsters' do you mean youth team players?

I guess it depends who he uses going forward. All 4 of those (and Lavia) IMO should be starting most games (at least Mara over AA until we get someone better!), but there's just a feeling based on the stuff from Luton that he prefers the more experienced players with only a couple of youngsters in the team. Let's see! Guess I was expecting a little more change last night, but the team was basically the same as that which has failed through the season. Fingers crossed he can bring an upturn in form!

Edozie apart, there aren't many players outside the first eleven that fans are clamouring to be selected. Mara has been uninspiring, Aribo woeful. Even Bazuna's biggest critics aren't actually calling for McCarthy to be recalled.

I mean Diallo isn't great, but I'd have him in front of AMN who didn't look like a footballer yesterday.

Edozie for his running and positiveness has to start, but other than that we've not got a lot. Need a big January or it's curtains by March.

So Sport Republics transfer policy was to bring in young players with promises of first team action to help attract a higher calibre of player, and then their first managerial appointment is someone that doesn't like to play youngsters nullifying any bargaining power they had with future young targets?

Something doesn't add up with that theory.

Not a confidence inspiring victory, but we'll take the victory.

When new manager's take over, you hope to see some instant, positive changes. I guess the closest comparison we have is Hasenhuttl taking charge of a deflated, unfit, 19th placed Hughes team. Within two games and a lot less time than Jones has had, we were pressing, showing a new way of playing and beating Arsenal. However, following all the PR pieces of attacking football, last night I saw the opposite, lining-up with five at the back at home against mid-table League One Lincoln and if not for an offside goal, we'd have given them the first half. One of the best things about Hasenhuttl getting sacked was that I wrongly believed we'd never see a Salisu throw again, but there he was again throwing aimless balls to the first defender.

Positives were of course the win and Jones seeing that his initial tactics weren't working and he changed it, although I'd have liked the ABK halftime sub to have been the change in formation. But, we'd be a few goals down at half time playing that way in the Premier League.

The best players were the subs, Edozie, despite the miss, S. Armstrong and even Walcott in his little cameo made two good crosses before needing to return to the physio.

Notable omissions were Aribo, behind Walcott and Djenepo in the pecking order. Possibly because he's one of the laziest footballers I've seen and whoever recruited him for a side that used to be known for pressing, well hopefully it was Shields and he's gone. And Mara. Shows up in the B team and friendlies, but no first team minutes last night.

And then there was Maitland-Niles... We've seen Oscar Gobern line up in midfield against League One opposition and he was a lot better against them than whatever Maitland-Niles served up. He's not a central midfielder and he needs to drop it. Wenger, Emery, Arteta and Mourinho, all very good, top level managers had a look at him and decided his position was a right-back.

Improvements needed for Monday and as a Southampton and England fan I never want to see five at the back again after this year.

Adam Armstrong is getting worse, which I didn’t think was possible.

Considering we signed him to replace Danny Ings, it has to go down as one of our worst signings ever.

Seems to be some consistent themes developing.

AA is just shot of confidence. Feel a bit sorry for him but it isn’t working. Interesting reading that Ralph didn’t want him. Wonder if and how this came across at Staplewood to erode his confidence further.

ANM - always felt he didn’t want to be here after he turned us down a couple of years ago.

Wasn’t it the prospect of being asked to play rb that influenced his decision to go to WBA rather than us two years ago ?

Perhaps the problem is that in his own head he’s a midfielder, and an integral part of Arsenal. In truth though that’s not a position he shows anything in, and he’s probably now only a couple of loan moves away from a free transfer to Millwall or such.

Hope we’re not committed to keeping him.

Without wanting to labour the point too much, I just don’t get it. I don’t get how any professional footballer, let alone a PL striker does all that wiggling to try and get around the keeper and when he does finally do it and gets into this position just stops and waits. It’s as if he wanted it to be saved, to save him the embarrassment of missing from a yard out again. There’s a lack of belief and then there’s this.

Seeing that Twitter post further up the page, whilst Che should have done the business when he had sat the the keeper down, what was Elyounoussi doing running past him and then ending up behind the keeper getting in the way as "another Lincoln defender" momentarily.

That said looking at this photo he is already on the back foot in his mind, being so right foot dominant.

Anyway as Jonesy said its a win and we are in the next round.

Yep. Jones has played plenty of our youngsters and when Lavia is fit, he'll be another. Give it a season and he'll be giving Ballard and Jimmy-J games too, I suspect.
