Has anyone been preparing a roast dinner whilst watching the World Cup before?

During the first half I was dismantling 2 screen doors so that the wooden frames can be reused as a cupboard on top of which a bird cage with canaries will be stood.

Everything about this is so artificial and forced. Nothing’s authentic, it’s like watching a reconstruction of what people who have never been to a football tournament think it might be like.

That’s exactly what it is. It was hilarious seeing a near empty ground at the end. A terrible match played out in a crap atmosphere finishing in a 2/3 empty stadium is quite a fitting opening to this sham.

It is a sham, but I'm still pissed off that the spineless knobs at the Premier League, Serie A and La Liga didn't get together and say "F@ck off", this is a summer tournament, we're boycotting this nonsense. Instead, we get these pathetic symbolic gestures like 'taking the knee, rainbow captain's bands, woke, woke woke', and sad old gits like me prefer to watch recent games like Exeter, Woking and even dare I say it, Pompey/Derby - despite that rumoured paedo ringing that f'ing bell every minute...he really is a true bell end!

But at least we are having conversations 🙄

If I hear this meaningless expression one more time FFS

a few pundits earning a fortune talking about how terrible it all is on a TV station seen primarily by people who all agree that Qatar is the wrong place for a World Cup for so many reasons. It’s almost like they are trying to convince themselves that it’s okay to take their money.

I see they’re taking the knee 🙄

Hypocrisy of the highest order - taking the knee while partaking in a tournament in a country like Qatar.  You couldn't make it up yet they fail to see how ridiculous they make themselves look.

I work with someone who was adamant that he was boycotting the World Cup. Guess who piped up in the group chat three minutes into the opening game today when that goal was disallowed… and then when the first goal went in… 🤦🏻‍♂️

Yeah ok mate. I’ll have to ask him Monday what it is that he is boycotting. 🤣

We all agree it’s in the wrong country but every football fan is still going to be watching.

Gutted at the result. I was assured by those ITK that Qatar had paid off Ecuador to ensure they would start with a win so I bet my mortgage on it. Off to buy a tent tomorrow. I did have a side bet about snide comments about knee taking and rainbow armbands, so maybe all is not lost 🌈

Fantastic news. No more internet for soggy, let’s hope wherever you end up pitching your tent has no 4G

If taking the knee and an armband does not solve issues we don’t like. Nothing will!

seriously, who do we think we are by protesting house a country runs itself and it’s religious beliefs?

We quite happily turn a blind eye when the same religious beliefs are loud over here! And we have enough to fix on there shored before we start demanding others change.

min sure there will be armbands and knees taken for the likes of this…….oh

If there's one think I like about Batman is that he doesn't own or wear any clothing or shoes made by any major sports brand or clothing chain, and hasn't done for years.

You have to admire his principles, you really do 👏 👏 👏 👏

There’s nothing wrong with us wearing a multicoloured armband. If a player gets booked at just highlights how more ridiculous FIFA are.

We all agree it should never have been held in Qatar but now it is, it’s on the world stage, what an opportunity to highlight the normality of today, i.e. no longer a male dominated world, all inclusive with LGBT etc.

I hope we do wear it and do highlight the issues. But there are ways of doing it. The armband is a subtle way but gets the subjects talked about.

If Kane, Southgate etc we’re going and protesting in front of a government building for a few weeks - it’s different.

Surely this will mean they will be booked for every game they wear it which Mean they’ll all be suspended for the final group game against Wales. Then they’ll all also be suspended for the semi final after two further bookings in the round of 16 and quarter finals.

You can change the captaincy. It isn’t a locked in thing.

Just give it to a player that isn’t going to put in a tackle. 🤣

The Equadorian captain wore a Palestinian flag on his arm which obviously was a political statement.

Did FIfa book him ? Did they fuck !

Not true. I can’t be arsed and I suspect there are others.
