It depends where it is held.

Edit: 1954 at the Wankdorf stadium in Bern the final was played in heavy rain.

Would that have evaded the swear filter when this site had it... 😁

Wasn’t a problem when it hosted a friendly between Scunthorpe and Lightwater.

But only for blokes if I remember correctly. Don't think that homosexuality between women has ever been illegal. Frowned upon certainly but not illegal.

I was told that the law simply couldn’t accept even the possibility that the fairer sex might indulge such predilections. So no laws needed.

Easily the least interested the country has been in a World Cup.

No flags on cars, pubs aren't all decked out with the St George's cross.

Partly I guess it's because big shops and supermarkets have all their Xmas stuff in so don't have room for aisles of foam hands and plastic hats this time.

That crooked *!#! Infantino defending everything going on for an hour removed any chance of me becoming interested.

Well done to Williamson, Mead and Christiansen for speaking up. The latter declined to take part in commentary.

Lower league football to look forward to.

I am looking forward to the hard-hitting insight both Gary Neville and Gary Linekar will deliver.  Given they had to go and take the Qatari shilling to do this!

I thought it was Good Queen Vic that couldn’t accept it?

Only 5 hours to go! Who else is buzzing for Qatar v Ecuador to kick off the greatest show on earth

I have never been so underwhelmed about a World Cup in my life and I go back to the 1978 one as my first memory of one.

It’s just doesn’t feel like a WC to me, more of a pain in the backside international break. I’m wouldn’t be against a winter WC as such, if the football seasons were aligned to a calendar year and the domestic season was over. It’s the fact that it’s mid-season and in Qatar that ruins it.

"England captain Leah Williamson said on Friday that she had no interest in watching the upcoming men's World Cup in Qatar"

I know she's claiming it's because of the human rights issues in Qatar, but just imagine for a second that Harry Kane came out before the women's world cup and said he had no interest in it. Would be the biggest scandal of the year.

That would probably grab the headlines.

Quite liked the opening BBC graphics. Hope not constant earnest condemnation throughout though. Either boycott it or watch the football

Serves me right for over-exaggerating. You agree it would be a scandal and Kane would be labeled a sexist disgrace, right?

There is absolutely no doubt it would be. Look how upset they all got with Graeme Souness  few months ago for a perfectly reasonable comment

Alex Scott is such a good pundit.

Love her honesty. Says what right minded people are thinking. Shearer not on the fence either.

No and if you think your comparison stands then I despair

She gets it right all the time and says it in a way you want to listen to her.

Good point where was all the up in arms about that cunt Putin getting 2018. Post annexing Crimea

To be honest if they had managed to stage this World Cup back in the summer I think a lot more people would have enjoyed it as they normally would any World Cup.

People’s anger over it being moved to the winter has helped bring some of the other (bigger) problems to the forefront as there’s already a fire to fuel.

Jesus f**king christ 😄 I love this forum. Kane says he has no interest in women's world cup and he isn't labeled a disgrace? What planet are you currently living on?

Despair away.

So you are baffled as to why she is saying she has no interest in it? Want to hazard a guess?

I'll hazard a guess and it'll be the same as what I said in my original post. Because of the human rights issues on Qatar. I hope that saying it twice helps you to comprehend.

It's obvious why she's saying it. I'm not claiming Williamson is a sexist disgrace. She's totally within her rights to say she has no interest in it. Just as Kane would in my hypothetical situation. The difference is, if Kane said it (for the exact same reasons as Williamson is saying it) he would be absolutely bombarded and labeled a sexist disgrace.

I don't doubt your sincerity fella, but you're either massively naive or not keeping up with society's current standards.

My apologies, I took this thread off topic. Let's enjoy the footy. Come on you Qataris.

You're making up a scenario that hasn't happened and never will happen and then getting annoyed about it.

Honestly there is some fucking dreadful "everyone is a hypocrite" whataboutery horseshit on this forum but what you've come up with here is pretty woeful by even Saintsweb standards.

Yes I'm all annoyed abouts it. I'm in a right pickle.

You remind me here of some of the modern day conservatives in the Republican and Tory parties. "Oh that's a hypothetical. I don't do hypotheticals".

You've made me smile though. In fact more than that. You've raised a belly laugh. Kane says he's not interested in women's world cup, and you don't believe it would be a scandal? Then with respect, you're not worth engaging with.
