Kane will make amends for this in the next Nations League campaign, don't you worry about that.

A hat trick away to Malta and that miss will all be forgotten.

Fine margins, if it stays like this. After going behind, being cagey, England have posed threats, while they have nullified nearly everyone other than Giroud really well. To go out on a missed penalty shouldn't detract from all the positives we've seen. Disappointing, and that's against the holders, but not disastrous for the team's future.

Lloris has had a good game as well

I think he's a great player but Kane really doesn't help himself with his "doesn't turn up in big games" reputation.

He’s been excellent tonight. Could have had a hat trick on another night.

The penalty miss is inexcusable but i don’t think anybody can fault him over 90 minutes.

Nope. Worked his socks off, drops deep to start attacks, physical enough to hold off challenges all the time, scored a penalty... not quite prepared when faced with another.

I'd have kept Saka on, to see if Kane would get a third chance. Grealish will be trying for that too.

Is it too late to bring him on?

Flight to Doha and check in etc and warm up.... maybe needed few hours. 😁

Fuck me we drew a short straw in life, supporting Saints AND England.

30 years supporting them and fuck all to show for all that toil.

TBF that applies to all but eight or nine of the 110 plus English FL teams and 200 plus nations out there.

Gutted, better team, poor ref but you can’t miss a penalty in a quarter final. Sure some people will trott out the southgate is crap line but got it spot on throughout the tournament.

Have to say, the French are being classy in victory towards the England players.

Mbappe was laughing his head off when Kane missed the pen, not quite so classy.

Haha pretty true.

Would be nice to see one of them lift a trophy before I kick the bucket though.

What is JWP thinking?

That he wouldn't have been on the pitch so he was better off at base hopefully.

Thats football you need the 'rub of the green' which we did not have

The whole build up to this game was about Mbappe, how do we stop him etc. Just our luck that he has an absolute disaster of a game and we STILL contrive lose.

Didn't take our chances in that period in the second half, you cannot miss penalties like that in a top level game. We played well enough without doubt, but it's yet another tournament gone with nothing to show for it. As someone said above, to be English and support Southampton is totally taking the short-straw in football life.

Bellingham has come out of this a star, he had a bit of a sloppy game tonight but he's full of energy. Saka has got better too, but that's probably the end of Maguires, Shaws and Hendersons international careers - weak links at the top, top level imo. (Maguire done on the goal)

Bit neutral on Southgate, he hasn't done badly for us - certainly not in tournaments, but it's got to the stage now where I think he's done as much as he can and we need a bit of a reset and build around the likes of Saka, Bellingham, Foden etc.

WHat is the point of putting Grealish on for 90 seconds?

Probably not the best idea keeping Stones on as he couldn't walk. What would you have done, brought on another CB with seconds left?

Might as well restart the Premier League next weekend. There’s that round of fixtures that were cancelled for the Queen’s funeral for a start.

Genuinely looking forward to Lincoln at home more than I was tonight's game, will be good to get back to domestic action not a fan of international breaks

Spot on analysis.

Very much like watching Saints, turgid defensive football. England will never with anything with Southgate.

I loved watching England 70s 80s and and maybe 90s.....don't particularly care either way now.

He’s been blessed by incredibly fortunate fixtures and wasted by far our best two chances to win a major tournament for several decades. I don’t think he’s a good manager.

You're sounding a bit like that guy on here who always slags off Nigel Adkins.

I think that's a bit harsh based on the 2nd half. We had the better chances, played the most football in that 2nd half and were once again 'glorious' losers. There was a fair bit of crab football in the first half for sure, but we pushed 2nd half and had them on the ropes.

Proud of the boys tonight. Gave it their all but didn't get the rub of the green plus ref was awful. Shouldn't miss a penalty but feel for Harry Kane. Ah well, come on Morocco, keep it as tight as you have done so far and sneak a lucky winner in the semi-final!
