It was said at the fan forum he was back in training on Tuesday. But there has not been any photo galleries of Tuesday's training. Any photo you've seen is an old one rehashed for an article.

Fair, that's a little misleading of Tom Leach, since he has tweeted out two different pictures of JWP under the "JWP returns to training" tweets.

Are people still going to claim the injury is a lie and a cover-up due to transfer links? Not only would it require the club to be lying, but Ward-Prowse wearing knee protection when he doesn't need to.

They'll go quiet now.

In a way, I'm happy he has most likely had an extended break / additional recovery time - he out of everyone deserves it for playing every minute.

Just hope he is sharp and match fit by Saturday. I think he will start on Saturday though, he won't want to stop his continuous streak now.

I'm happy for Ralph to not give any indication either, can ruse Everton into thinking he won't start.

Yeah i was thinking is that a scar? Still concerning if its so heavily strapped. Doesn't make much sense to rush him back for everton imo.

The straps could just be a precaution tbh. Will trust the physios to know whats best regarding getting him back and playing.

Calf I would say , although there does seem to be something over his kneecap ! We saw lots of tape used in the Olympics even in the diving . I'm not sure if it does any good though .

Damn I'm glad you said that, I was thinking "what's wrong with his skin?!" but it's just skin coloured straps!

Looks like kinesiology tape. Physios love a bit of that. When I used to do a bit of running and saw a physio, he’d be keen for me to use plenty of that tape if I had any ongoing niggles. Can be a right bugger to get off, mind, especially with body hair.

Tottenham and Aston Villa are preparing moves for Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse after the Premier League season starts this weekend.

Both are set to test Southampton’s resolve to keep their captain after losing Danny Ings and Jannik Vestergaard being targeted by clubs in the final weeks of the transfer window.

Ward-Prowse, 26, was targeted by Villa earlier in the summer before they turned their attention to forwards to cover for the loss of Jack Grealish, with Leon Bailey and Ings joining Emi Buendia as summer arrivals.

He remains their No.1 target to bolster Dean Smith’s midfield, while Spurs also have the England international on their radar.

Mauricio Pochettino wanted Ward-Prowse during his time at Spurs and he remains highly rated at the club.

Ward-Prowse played in every Premier League game last season and scored eight goals, with his set-piece delivery one of Southampton’s biggest attacking weapons. It earned him a place in England’s provisional squad of the European Championships before he was dropped from the final 26.

Southampton chief executive Martin Semmens has vowed to keep Ward-Prowse at the club and sees him as an important player for the future.

Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba, 27, has been monitored by Watford and Everton. They would stand to make a profit on the £11 million paid to Club Brugges two years ago should they choose to cash in.

Semmens said it himself yesterday, JWP will not be leaving under any circumstances.

They key question is where are these stories being repeatedly driven from?

Hard to believe there hasn't been some encouragement from JWP and his reps somewhere along the line...

Would be interesting to know whats happening behind the scenes as there is obviously something to it, or at least a/some parties want there to be.

His agents and/or the PR machines at Villa and Spuds are on overdrive then

Like Spurs are going to offer £40/50m for him  - its levy

Tanguy Ndombélé cost Spurs £54m

So why not for a 26 year old PL club captain with 4 years left on his contract?

fair point, 4 years on his contract also at Lyon

IIRC think Ndombele had played CL seasons before and looked really decent (against City)

cant remember if Lyon needed to sell? cash strapped

also depends on payment terms I would assume - all up front or over x amount of years

How did he word it out of interest?

He said it in a couple of different ways, the one I remember off the top of my head is Blackmore asked "I tweeted out a couple of days ago that there was 100% no chance JWP leaves, will I be made to look silly?" to which Semmens responded very bluntly with "No."

He then went on to say how promising JWP was staying with the club was a key part of negotiations with new signings, especially Tino who asked specifically about it. He also spoke for a while of how he will be here next season, how important he is on and off the pitch ect. The gist was he isn't leaving.

The latter IMO, one trying to paper over selling their best player the other preparing for selling their best player.

I agree. I just don't think jwp is leaving. Didn't he say in an interview at the end of the season, that his dream is for his kids to see him lift a trophy for saints or something?

Anyone wondering why JWP hasn't come out and said "I'm happy here and dont want to leave" as our captain that's what I'd be looking for from him he must know it's unsettling.

Because he isn’t and does?

Probably because he’d look a bit silly if we accepted a £50m bid and he left.

I don't think that's something which usually happens to be honest. The only example I can think of in recent times is Fabian Delph when he was at Villa, and then a week later....he left. So yeah, a bit of a pointless empty gesture really.

He'd be well advised to just keep his head down, be professional and crack on. He knows the clubs stance, he'll know who is interested and the clubs will know at what value we will start to listen - as he will have a valuation.

Because then he'd be obliged to do it every time there was a link or people would assume he was off  Bad precedent to set that he responds to every press rumour with a declaration of loyalty. There is a reason players very rarely do such things.

I'm pretty confident we are going to Morgan Schneiderlin his ass for this summer.

Next summer, different ball game.

No idea why you think that. Best players sold off, Lots of transfer rumours about him, injured all preseason then makes a miraculous recovery to be fit for the first game of the season. No similarities whatsoever.

Why do people still think JWP is leaving? The club said two nights ago that he is not. JWP is a Saint, he will be with us this season.

I think the issue of having an owner with large debts is that Martin Semmens can say and do the right thing but at any point Mr Gao Jisheng can jump in and go ill accept that offer thank you very much

Semmens has said numerous times that while Gao doesn't put money into the club, he doesn't take money out and that all transfer fees are ploughed back into the club as it is self-sustaining.

My reading is that the club had to sell two of JV, JWP and DI to raise the necessary funds. That fits with a earlier report quoting JWP as saying 'it's up to the club'.

I didn't see this report. Can you remember where it was from? That's an interesting quote

Best of luck mate. My best friend at primary school was a villa fan so I've always looked out for your results. Ings is class and should do a good job for you although it's undoubtedly a blow to lose your talisman, if you're like us you will spread the money about and have a more balanced team at the end of it. Always better not to be relying on one superstar and I hope we can take that advice as well now we have lost Danny.

Top man - sorry for not replying sooner. As somebody who lives close to your ground I will be keeping my fingers crossed you stay up. Never met a horrible Saints fan. Actually, got a feeling it will be a better season than pundits expect. Armstrong is quality and I don't think JWP will move.

Sorry, it was a poster on this forum who said  he knew JWP.  Not verified anywhere else so far as I know. Fits the known facts though.
