That ain't good...

I'd imagine he simply doesn't know so can't give an answer. Everyone has their price after all, but being that JWP is on a long contract and doesn't seem to be actively agitating for a move then i'd guess it really comes down to whether Villa are willing to pay whatever price we set for him, especially as we know they will have the money from Grealish soon. Their first offer being described as 'derisory' may suggest they won't be willing to go as high as we would want for him though.

Hearing Grealish is staying…..

The Man Utd 9-0 was massively helped by the incompetence and huge bias of Mike Dean, who basically gave Utd 3 goals and poorly ruled one of ours off, and you can't underestimate the impact that has on players, already being a man down, with inexperienced kids in the team who are struggling and then the ref piles in on top and gives them pretty much everything.

I do also like the people clamouring on against being stats and then blabber on show they have a huge ignorance of them and have no clue what they are talking about. Seems this is the world we live in these days, people just dismiss things when they haven't got the foggiest clue and just get swayed by nonsense emotional arguments. I mean it's basically how we got Brexit.

I was with you right up to your twatty Brexit comment.

Might make sense now City see Kane is spitting his dummy out, he is needed there more than JG.

Unrelated, I think.

It’s come from an American journo with links to the villa owner (something to do with NBA links).

Sounds like a Tiss situation and he’s rather be a ‘club legend’ at villa and they’ve offered him a huge pay rise.

Who knows, could be a load of rubbish. Fair play to him and villa If so.

Saw that, think it's a load of rubbish tbh. I'm an NFL fan and the guy is an NFL "ITK", as well as Hockey and Basketball. A quick look at his tweets and he posts a lot of fairly sensational scoops which don't seem all that likely to come off. Also NFL is huge, as are the other two, if you were a genuine reliable ITK you'd have more than 2700 followers. Also if you flick through, a bunch of those are recent follows from hopeful villa fans so his play seems to have worked. It got tweeted as a picture by some football entertainment youtuber and that's why it blew up. I'd ignore this guy to be honest, bit of a chancer like "Aston Villa News".

Do Villa need to sell him as surely their FFP is shot to pieces, now that they've a net £290m spend since promotion? Having said that, selling Grealish and replacing him won't really give change the net spend to below prob £230-240m

How does this play out then?

At the moment it appears the situstion is:

- Villa have been interested since the start of the summer but have chosen to make an official bid recently.

- At around the time of that bid JWP hasn't been training with the squad or playing in the friendlies - and is surely unlikely to play in tomorrows game as nothing has seemingly changed.

- Villa have had ample time to be informed by JWP that he isn't interested, which added to the above suggests that he is.

- Saints are adamant they don't want to sell him, but history shows that if a player strongly suggests they want to go then we will sell for a fair price.

My opinion:
- This has probably been rumbling in the background for a while and isn't going away any time soon.

- Very interesting that there were no quotes from Ralph after the Swansea game about the whole situation, almost as if the club don't want it leaking out that JWP is kicking up a fuss. Blackmore obviously knows something he isn't releasing.

- Something will surely develop in a big way this week as we can't have a situation where the captain isn't playing for basically a whole pre-season. Wouldn't suprise me if there is a national report about him wanting to leave in the next few days.

- If he doesn't play the next two friendlies then surely he won't play the first league game whatever happens.

Hopefully we reject this quickly too. Don't want JWP distracted by this.

Is there anything to be distracted by? He either wants to leave, in which case it’s already too late (given he’s missed 2 friendlies), or he doesn’t, in which case, he’ll just ignore it.

Villa have made a second bid:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/articles/cwrmxx238pgo

They haven't. The Fail claims they're going to with Grealish proceeds but other reports say Grealish is staying. May be agent talk to keep it alive or just the usual Fail rubbish.

Or just maybe Villa will come back but I doubt they'll be anywhere near our valuation.

Seriously what a load of crap regarding a second bid etc.

Do you think Villa are going to tell the  press that they are going in with a second bid.

This is either a ploy to satisfy the Villa fans or its agents spouting out shit to unsettle a player.

If they don't sign him how does it work as a ploy to satisfy their fanbase?

Truth hurts, I mean it's going well so far....... 😄

Not to derail the thread but I'm not sure anyone expected Brexit to have an immediate positive impact and most expected early teething problems. I don't think a true judgement can be made for a few years yet as we diverge from the EU.

Even Rabb said this year , judge the economic success in 10 years time ! Hope I last long enough to enjoy the 'fruits' of Brexit.

Was he in the training pics today?

Not in any of the pics.

Seems odd doesn't it, the one player who is a fitness freak, never injured. Suddenly gone missing in the midst of transfer bids, with an injury that no one has actually elaborated on, unless I've missed it.

Maybe I'm just being cynical!

Everything is probably fine, mate.  (BUT! 'tis the season to speculate!)

It's def one to keep half an eye on.  They are minted, they are *possibly* going to get £100m on top of their mintedness* (MLG notes)

Can probably double his wages etc.

What's really annoying is the Ings / Vesty scenario coupled with this makes things quite messy.

On one hand it could be messy, but on the other hand we could turn it into a huge positive as we did in 2014.

I have massive faith in people like Martin, Matt etc running the show. They know what they're doing. We just need the money!

This is the thing, isn’t it?  The purchasing of all the #Unsellables caused a log-jam in finances that mean we could really do with selling somebody to enable the rest of the team to be strengthened.

I see his Astonvillitis has flared up again

Will be interesting what Ralph says as usually this week he will be specifically asked about it.

Of course, he may be genuinely injured but it seems too convenient at the time he is most strongly linked with a move away.

Would be a shame, actually very poor, if our captain doesn't play in the majority of the friendlies and the first league game because of transfer interest.

Devils advocate - after playing every game throughout the past 2 covid hit seasons and also being on England duty right up until the start of the Euro's maybe they thought he finally deserved a bit of rest during a couple of meaningless friendlies, especially if he has picked up a small knock.

To be fair though, such conveniently timed injuries do normally pop up during these sort of transfer periods so I can understand the concern. Adam Blackmore's most recent tweeting suggests we are not looking to sell though pretty much regardless of price so for now i'm not worried.

The Club would be obviously be peddling this line, irrespective of the actual circumstances because ultimately they want the most that they can get for him.   Hate to say it, but contrary to the 40 - 50 million figures bandied around here I reckon we'll deal at about the 32 mil mark.  Remember our owner has no funds to put into the club, not a pot to piss in,  so the lure will be too great.  Personally I think the deals been done, he's gone.

Or just voicing a valid opinion that doesn't align with your own, perhaps?

Saying...

"Personally I think the deals been done, he's gone."

Is not merely a valid opinion, it is a claim. A claim that is jumping to conclusions.
