fos1 Posted 26 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 26 January, 2009 (edited) Any chance of an answer to my questions above fos1? I am unable to name the manager but I understand he spoke to someone who is proven in the Championship, I believe that this was done so that when or if Lowe and Wilde excepted his proposals that Poortvleit had to go !! he would hit the ground running to sort this mess out that Lowe has caused with this stupid Dutch idea !! This is not PR as some poster has put it is fact !! Edited 26 January, 2009 by fos1

FFS he 'spoke' to a 'proven' manager!! I can see it now :- LC - "Hi Davros, sorry, Ian, how are you??" ID - "Fine thanks Leon, exterminate, exterminate!!" LC - "Having a meeting with my uber-arch-nemesi tomorrow, I'm going to get them to resign, although I don't think I have much chance of success" ID - "That's nice" LC - "Fancy a job if they do resign though" ID - "Please, now where's that Dr chap got to??" If you believe it was empty then thats up to you, but I know who I would rather have in the position we find ourselves, someone who is willing to put his hand in his pocket to save us from relegation/ administration, or Lowe who has only ever taken money out of the club in wages etc and Wilde who promised to invest 2million in several board meetings and could not come up with the money. Thedelldays Posted 27 January, 2009 Share Posted 27 January, 2009 thought mine was a good proposal – it would have enabled us to get rid of our overdraft and give ourselves a fighting chance of bringing in some experienced players and an experienced English manager. that sensible thinking has not place at SFC
trousers Posted 27 January, 2009 Share Posted 27 January, 2009 Sorry: http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/4078741.Crouch__Why_I_proposed_changes/ "Crouch has had an ongoing dialogue with them since October, but the 2-1 home loss to Doncaster forced him to call a meeting between the three largest individual Southampton Leisure Holdings PLC shareholders. “I put my proposals to them but they obviously didn’t accept them because they went and put Mark Wotte in charge," said Crouch." Erm, perhaps I'm reading too much into this (for once) but if Lowe and Wilde didn't accept Crouch's proposals (which included changing the manager) then why didn't Poortvliet stay in place (whether he was pushed or resigned)? Either they accepted Crouch's proposals or they didn't? All seems a tad coincidental that Crouch come up with a plan which involves changing the manager which is turned down by Lowe and Wilde but the manager change then happens anyway.... Lost. saintjay77 Posted 27 January, 2009 Share Posted 27 January, 2009 Sigh!!!!......he wanted rid of all the Dutchmen, and install an English manager. Madness init, Pearson is english and took us from mid table to a relegation fight, Burley Scottish but from the Britsh isle took us from a play off team to mid table going no-where. Redcrap English again and took us out of the Prem Hoddle - English and played about with us for a while before dumping us at the 1st better offer WGS - Scottish again but like GB in the Britsh isles, had great success with us but left anyway. Wigley, Gorman, Dodd, Gray, Sturrock and probably many more all had a pop and are from the British isles but none had any success. now we are struggling to stay in the CCC and in a worse position than ever yet we need a Britsh manager to come in and make things right? Wotte and JP may not be the answer but whats wrong with trying something different?

eelpie Posted 27 January, 2009 Share Posted 27 January, 2009 Hoddle - English and played about with us for a while before dumping us at the 1st better offer To be fair, Hoddle revived a flagging team after a poor start when he took over, and had us playing decent football. This is why we were all so angry when he left. We ended the season in 10th position, despite only winning twice in nine matches after he left at the end of March that season (2000-1). saintjay77 Posted 27 January, 2009 Share Posted 27 January, 2009 Nothing. But how long do you conduct an experiment before realising it's flawed? I understand that and couldnt agree more. I didnt personally want to see JP get the boot cause he seemed like he was a nice guy and was trying to do whats right. results tell there own story though so it was right for a change. Wotte however is a different person and deserves a chance doesnt he? The club have decided to change strategy's from the good old english manager that we have had for a long time with limited success to a new dutch type system with a focus on getting the most out of the whole squad from the acadamy upwards. How long did we perserver with the good old english approach? same system with different managers for years and only WGS got messured success. New dutch system has had less than 1 season so its still got some legs IMO. 1 manager couldnt get the best out of it so we are onto another. we are limited by the financial side of things but will work with what we have. If we went whole heartedly into this type of system with prem funds I think it could be very successful as the calibre of managers, coachs, players and youth we could attract would be far greater than we have now and the benifits would be allot bigger. I dont pin the blame on getting dragged into a relegation fight on pearson but the facts are he was it happend under his stewardship. When hoddle was here we looked better but nothing of any note really happened. had he seen out the season I believe we would have had a europe spot and things would probably look allot different now. John B Posted 27 January, 2009 Share Posted 27 January, 2009 (edited) Nothing. But how long do you conduct an experiment before realising it's flawed? The strategy is to keep us out of Administration I would have thought nothing to do with how well we play this season. I thought if we survive this year then obviously more focus will put onto developing the team It may have worked if we had sold some of Rasiak John Euell Thomas Skacel Saga Lallana or Surman but no club seems to want them and our overdraft is still high. I still cannot see how as a club we can progress if we do not get a huge investment without developing some good young players who do not demand wages of £10000 per week which we will be unable to afford Edited 27 January, 2009 by John B
