We are sorry that due to a nationwide shortage of bus drivers, rail replacement bus services will be much less frequent than originally planned for some routes with engineering works

"Much less frequent" isn't really helpful.. I can get a lift in and then was planning to get the replacement service Eastwards home, and if I had to wait in the pub celebrating/drowning my sorrows so be it, but hanging around a draughty station for an hour or two is not my idea of fun. My app indicates there are timetabled replacement bus services, so will it be updated? Back to the car and sobriety again.

Another classic was the home win 1995 heading for defeat we managed to conjure up three late goals with legends Shipperley, Watson and Heaney tearing them apart

Said it many times before - That’s the video that needs the Radio Solent commentary overlaying on it - South Today did it the following night - poor bloke needed hosing down at full time to stop him spontaneously bursting into flames.

He does seem to have the things you say and being a bit more experienced always helps. Despite our infactuation with signing kids centre halves do peak the otherside of their mid twenties as it's a position that needs experience and leadership as well as the physical attributes. I'm sure someone will point out to a few exceptions but generally that's the case. Caleta-Car has been the darling of this forum for a while and long been a name high on transfer window wanted lists so good to finally get one of those.

I have to say I loved his youtube highlight reel of three years ago. He bullied opponents in that video and he looked exactly the guy we needed. I think the €20m figures bandied about two or three years ago may have reflected the great season he had, but priced us out of the market. His struggles in the last two seasons eroded that value, but it may have helped us get a bargain. I'm still a little concerned about his lack of pace/acceleration, but most CBs are not quick, you just need to ensure that lack of pace is not exposed very often. I'm all for signing the highest quality youth and ABK proves it can be done, but adding an experienced guy like this seems a smart move.

God I miss the Dell.

Brexit must be a global issue.

We are tied in with the global economy and Brexit has made the British economy weaker and that has a wider impact so yes you are right.

No Brexit dividend for Saints as that was the same year Ronald left and we’ve been unambitious and either poorly performing or largely boring to watch since. Yay.

Was having a look at our xg for the season, to see if it was in any way enlightening ahead of tomorrow.

The only attacking players performing at their xg are Aribo (barely at 0.03 over) and Armstrong (stu). Prowsey and Lavia are also both around their xg but they’re not really our attacking threat.

Adams and Elyo both underperforming by a goal (0.95 and 1.2 under), interestingly ABK is too. Adam Armstrong is 0.03 under which is sod all.

Didn’t tell me much I didn’t suspect. Adams due more goals than he scores, Elyo is a waste of attack and everyone else is bang average because we don’t create a ton.

Enlightening post I know.

As expected bottom three prior to World Cup break enhanced by Null Points from next two games v Newcastle and Liverpool.

Only hope we can get our injured players back and sign a decent striker in January.

Brighton have scored seven goals in their last two games without a striker, maybe it’s the coaching?

It is. Our fans keep saying we are where we should be but we have some good players who are under performing.

Also Ralph's negative attitude doesn't help saying we are a small team and we should lose 15 games a season. Piss off Ralph numpty twat.

Looking at the teams in action today we look well short of them all… I think we’re fooked

With Ralph at the helm and no decent striker yes we absolutely are. There’s still time to save the season but SR need to act quickly.

Hmmm, or a completely different set of players?

Of course, but all I seem to hear is all our problems would be solved by having a clinical striker. We’ve had Ings and Broja in the last 2 years under Ralph as well and still been utter shite.

He's not wrong though is he? like it or not we're a small premier league club with small investment who try and punch above our weight by unearthing talented young players. Unless we have a dramatic change in investment we will still lose 15 games a season.

This doesn't mean I support him saying it....

We like a game against the bigger clubs. A sneaky draw maybe at best?

The media love in with Newcastle is getting a tad dull. Everyone praising the work Eddie Howe and his coaching staff have done (and rightly so), but forgetting to add the fact they’ve spent £200m+ since.

That £200m though has been very widely spent. They’ve improved the spine of the team: Pope (GK); Burns, Botman, Trippier (DEF); Guimares (MID); Woods and Isak (ST). They’ve added strength and leadership. Two things as a squad we lack.

Looking forward to watching all the time-wasting from Newcastle. The sideways passing from JWP. The high press with no end product from us. It could be a lively game.

That said, they’re a lot better than we are, they have a physicality about their team. Something we don’t match up against well.

1-2 to Newcastle is my guess. Less confident about this than I was the Arsenal game.

Can’t really call what formation Ralph will pick but I’m hoping it’s four at the back and not five. If it is five he’s playing for the point and we’ll have no attacking threat, and our strength is pressing the opposition. Their defenders aren’t quick, we need to capitalise on it.

This season we’d be much better with a decent striker. The last two seasons we’ve had crap players all over the pitch, so Ings and Broja are what kept us up.

Ings I agree with but not Broja. He only scored 6 goals last season. Obviously they helped but he scored less than Che.

Although we all know Ralph is a completely busted flush and will leave us worse than when he arrived, his football is tedious and it is well beyond his time to go.

Does anyone think we have a chance today?  Tragically, 1 point would be a good result

No doubt another dour, boring, narrow defeat

I’ve just read one of the fan forums and it is probably the most confident any away fans have ever been about turning us over comprehensively. Not that I blame them.

Will be a fair smattering of their fans in the home end too. So let’s make some noise and lift the team from the start. The Northam is nowhere near the noise it used to generate. If we start with Bella-Kotcha and Lavia funnier things have happened then a saints win.

2 years ago today we beat Newcastle to go top of the premier league. Today we are trying to get out of the bottom 3

Blimey I remember watching that starting to dream of our title win, we then went on a Nicholl style winless run didn't we

I doubt there will be any away fans in the home end, the stewards have had special training this week on dealing with this. It’s clearly something that needs special training as it’s obviously too difficult to spot fans wearing oppositions shirts and scarves or cheering the other teams goal without it.

Sadly not. They're a good side and I think they'll win at a canter. I hope I'm wrong.

I think the best we can hope is to scrape a desperate draw in what will likely be another backs to the wall performance. We'll probably totally ignore the fact that Guimaraes pulls the strings for them and give him the freedom of the park. Ralph mentioned Lavia has a knee problem so not expecting many minutes from him now until after the world cup.

5 years ago I might have been underwhelmed if we had signed Callum Wilson, nowadays I would pick him up and drive him to St Mary's personally.

Hope we can get something so we're not bottom 3 for 7 weeks,  think there to slick for us going forward unfortunately.

The mindset that has been inculcated is that we’re lucky to even be in this division and we will lose 15 games a season. That, faced with a team that has unlimited funds, better players and a better manager (crucially) means little chance of anything today. Hoping for a miracle, of course, but a large chunk of the above can still be changed by getting a manager who isn’t worn down by it all and only has two games anyway until his amicable payoff so why bother. Allegedly. All a mess. Left it so late. Depressing.

Are you joking? When playing for Coventry Wilson was clearly destined to be a top quality striker with pace, power and a cool head in front of goal.

It is not depressing really just reality get a grip we have very few top class players so who ever is the manager we are going to struggle that is life expecting consistently good results is insanity

You should be a scout!

It was kind of my point, some might have said the same about Che and AA also..

Well everything points to an easy Newcastle win… so this could be our 9-0 of the season, but I’m fairly sure we have been a bit of a bogey team for Newcastle in recent years. I seem to remember a lot of angry Jordie rant videos being a thing.

it’s true they’ve bought their way into the the top tier of the league but we do have a habit of embarrassing exactly those sort of teams when they come play.
