I was working in Istanbul a couple of weeks ago, talking to the barmen in the hotel asked about Goztepe, they said that they were an insignificant club that no one notices

Oh, so they are bigger than us after all

This is being taken out of context. I think what he meant was the act of acquiring a second club (Göztepe) and thus starting the portfolio was a bigger deal than purchasing a club initially (Saints)

Our new owners are a bit shit to be fair.

Another masterstroke by Semmens and Steele!

I've got some magic beans they could be interested in.

Average attendance in top tier is around 10K and a bit more when the hig boys turn up.

They play in seond tier and atendances of around 7K

Their average home gate is 4,684. When they were in the third division it was 659. They never managed an average of more than 9,000 in their history.

That’s not what has been said at all

I have been there whilst I was working in Turkey as most Turks will tell you apart from the big 3 in Istanbul only Trabzon gets close to being a big club despite Ankara Izmir and Antalya being large cities in terms of population

Maybe Adam Blackmore was right, is arrogant for a club smaller than one in turkey no one has heard of with an average gate of less than 5,000 to think they should be doing alright in the premier league.

Saints currently ranked 82 globally, Harrogate Town 634, Goztepe unlisted as don’t meet the criteria.  Ankersen needs to clarify to us small time second stream tosspots what he was on about, or indeed what he was on.

I'm hoping he's been misquoted or it's been taken out of context, as that's really not a good look from the club's owners. Just compounds the current negativity with everything else that's going on.

Did he say they had a ‘kebab shop mentality’ ?

So both my teams are in the top 634 in the world! 😀

Perhaps Ankersen has spent too long in the company of Semmens and Steele.

Their apparent ambition for the club has rubbed off on him.

Sorry, but is everyone losing their minds over a tweet from the mighty “Turk Scout”, an account with a thousand followers? Has anyone heard Ankersen actually say this?

I doubt he’s said anything remotely like what has been quoted. If he has indeed been misquoted he was probably saying that Gozetzpe are a bigger “job” than Southampton, ie. more effort to make them a success. But chances are he has said nothing of the sort. 😂

This could go down as a classic thread.

Who cares if it’s true, it’s the most fun we’ve had on here for a while. Viva righteous indignation I say!

The word from Turk Guide is that he actually said  ‘Southampton are a bunch of handjobs’ - if so fair play, at least he knows what he’s up against.

Yuck. Sounds too much like Southgate. Harrohampton is much better.

Call them what you want they’re both shite, boring and can’t score at the moment with the fans hating the manager, the common denominator is me 🤔

It's just words, not really important is it?

If the words were 'we will be sticking by our manager until at least the end of his contract and potentially even longer', would they still be unimportant?

There's plenty of Turkish news outlets quoting this as their headline and saying Rasmus 'stated' this comment.

Tbf, they have been Turkish League champions in the past and won a number of cups and Izmir does have a population of well over 4 million, so bigger in that sense. But they regularly play in front of small crowds in a smaller stadium  - I assume he was speaking through a translator who could have twisted his words to appeal to the eager audience but he should now come out and clarify what's been reported.

When they do turn up they do get typical Turkish support which is on a totally different level to anything in this country...

I'm sure the powers that be at SFC would be looking at closing down large swaths of that stadium with behaviour like that (only slightly tongue-in-cheek!)

Well, that's a completely different set of words isn't it?
