Attention seeking contrarians, nothing more. They don't give a sh*t about the environment, if they did they wouldn't be going out of their way to make people hate it.

Having said that, I'm amazed there's no perspex protection in front of things like this.

From Beeb

The gallery said the painting was covered by glass and therefore not damaged.

A relief. It said it looked to be tomato soup and I find that the toughest soup stain to get out.

They would have just moved it to Tate Modern where your culture vultures would have hailed it as a masterpiece.

Is this like a thing for youngsters to show how committed to causes they are?

I think I could handle a vegan diet; vegan and chips, vegan and red cabbage, vegan and potato pie, chilli con vegan....

After all, didn't somebody refer to humans as 'long pigs'.

I think we should applaud their bravery.  After all, Emily Pankhurst threw herself infront of the King's horse, and now we chicks can vote

Apologies for going all MLG on you but it was Emily Davison and not Emily Pankhurst who threw herself in front of the king's horse.

You proud chicks should know your chick history a bit better. 😁

They do seem to be a pair of twats.

But anyone who think Stonehenge is from the dawn of time needs to look beyond the hype.

It was a pile of interesting historic rubble that we rebuilt and cemented in place during the 60s - it's nothing but a tourist con.

And it's not very big.

Another strange target. They just seem intent on alienating the very people who support their cause. There are ways of gaining media attention without attacking priceless works of art and national treasures. An orange milkshake over Nigel Farage perhaps?

Their cause is narcissism, plain and simple. If you genuinely care about the environment, go to university. Study bioengineering, chemistry or electronics, then get a job with one of the big corporations you despise so much and develop a better biofuel, battery or solar cell. They won’t do that because it involves sustained, committed effort and you don’t get any attention for it, which is all this is really about.

I guess that their argument is that would take years and we don’t have the time, we need action now. Perhaps some of them are already doing that and are throwing orange stuff around in their spare time?

Fuck me, you’re obsessed man. It’s not compulsory to mention Nigel in every post.

SOG's only making plans for Nigel
He only wants what's best for him
SOG's views are the only right ones
Nigel just needs a helping hand

But if that Nigel says he's happy
He can't be happy
Because SOG's views are the only ones that work

Don’t think you lot get how protests work. It’s not about getting wider approval but drawing publicity which clearly it has done. Funny seeing so many in the press frothing and demanding long sentences.

This. It's an odd choice of target but I guess the more outrageous the more publicity it gets. I would prefer it if they chucked stuff at Farage as well TBH.

Some of the people writing in the press these days struggle with long sentences.

Yep, all about publicity.  Up till they started doing their thing I had no idea there was a link between oil and climate change so fair play to them.

Anyway, I'm off to tar and feather Nelsons Column to raise awareness about the relentless march of time.

Could we instead help them embody their stance? Say take everything they own, such as clothes, devices(including screens), transportation, exterior/interiors of homes and paint them a permanent orange? Help them live their protest?

I can't believe I didn't spot Farage behind all those climate summits, while pulling the strings of every major government, industry and financial hub since the industrial revolution. There was me going to question calls to assault someone.

So what would be the preferred protest of choice? Ruled out gluing to trains - very fucking annoying, blocking bridges in central London and delaying ambulances - abhorrent, throwing powder at at glass screen in an art gallery - beyond the pale, fucking with with football and handcuffing to goalposts - bastards messing with a man’s football, upsetting the Druids and the Daily Mail, a step too far sprinkling some old stones.
Lighthouse’s suggestion that they all become engineers seems very long term.

Well if, as you think, the idea is publicity/raise awareness then they really shouldn't bother.  Everyone and their dog is aware of climate change and the manmade drivers behind it.  It's akin to change your profile pic on facebook and thinking you've made a difference to child poverty.  Least Swampy had a concrete aim in mind (no pun intended) rather than, the very-fucking-millennial, raising awareness.

Nigel wouldn’t have it any other way. Narcissists thrive on attention. I’m doing him a favour Duckie although you are doing your usual making stuff up again as I clearly don’t mention him in every post. 😘

Be careful Whelk. You can’t mention Farage without invoking the wrath of the resident Duckhunter.

Different thing Whelk, you're confusing raising awareness with changing peoples minds.

Duckhunter has a lot to learn about climate in general. He takes a duffel coat to Turkey in June.

I remember the George Davis is innocent damage to Headingley - dug up the pitch and poured oil over it.  As a 10 year old I was a bit miffed that I couldn't watch any cricket that day.  But I think the protest worked because the publicity lead to a case review, which lead to his release on the basis his conviction (for robbery?) was unsafe.

I guess also the Poll Tax riots worked?

Protesting can work but I'm guessing it's hard to get it right.  I saw a couple of the early Extinction Rebellion disruptions in central London and they seemed to have the tone and message about right but they ended up losing their way as well.  The Just Stop Oil thing is getting publicity but I'm not convinced it's an effective protest.

This. Surely for "publicity" to be work it needs to attract people to your cause which then leads to effective actions occuring...  Not sure I'm seeing any evidence that such an outcome is likely to happen...
