Hang on, why is the club being hammered for this?

Clearly he has had an offer 'too good' to turn down. He doesn't want to see if his 'buys' are good enough, he does not have the patience.

Well, I say fuck him. And if Chelsea want them next summer, lets hope we are still prem quality so we can rip them of........a little.

Loads of shit to beat our club down with right now, this, I'm not so sure.

Exactly. He's spent our pot over the summer kissing a lot of frogs hoping one or two will come good, and now he knows there's not a lot left for future transfer windows, he's off to spend another club's money. Total arse!

Bed wetters. Can't you see the club is falling apart around us at the moment or have you got your head so far up your own arse you still beleive the bull shit from their pr machine? I suggest you give yourself a shake and wake up.

I found one! 🤣

Firstly, not a fan of rudeness.

Secondly, something is obviously going on, and yes it is worrying when the club you’ve supported your whole life has people leaving left, right and Centre; but I won’t lose sleep over it ffs. More to life.

In the end he got a bigger offer from a bigger club.

If we were offered better pay elsewhere to do the same jobs but closer to home I’m sure we’d all take it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I really do feel our luck has run out and this will be the season we go down regardless of who comes in, it will take a miracle to keep this rotten club up

Crikey- that’s taking bed-wetting to new heights!! We are “rotten” are we? Wow!

Makes sense, especially since Chelsea tried to sign Lavia from us shortly after he signed for us. A big club with very deep pockets, why wouldn’t you want to hoover up the best and why wouldn’t you want to go there? Still, for all those who want to believe that there are huge problems in the club it is another stick to beat the club with.

You really are a believer in the earth is flat

Stepping stone club used as stepping stone club.

Not really big news.

Is a tad worrying about people leaving behind the scenes though. Probably something going on.

After only being here 4 months I’d say it’s pretty big news.

You don't think if Barca come in for him from Chelsea he'll be gone from there too? There are about 4-5 clubs in the world who aren't stepping stones and we're not one of them.

Yeah, but there's also the possibility that nothing is awry.... #backonthefence ;)

I don’t think there is to be honest. I think it’s just a bloke taking a better job at a bigger club with seemingly endless resources. Meaning he’s probably been offered an absolute fortune in wages from an owner who seems to want to play football monopoly

It does however look odd, especially as he left City of all clubs to come here and we’re playing so incredibly well…

Has he actually left yet? No pure speculative.....

Besides it's not the end of the world if he does go just get somebody else in who has a good track record of recruiting players....

Why are you acting like this Shields bloke is only capable of player recruitment...

Strange that he didn't go to Chelsea in the first place unless Man City told him he could leave but not for them. It's not beyond the realms of belief that Chelsea made a secret deal to come back for him after a few months although you'd have thought City would have made it watertight so he couldn't do that. All just seems a bit strange.

Chelsea's new owners haven't messed around in targetting the best people.

In that sense it shows how good an appointment it was and his work in signing Lavia and ABK for less than £25m combined has been very high profile.

The unfortunate reality is any employee, player, manager, recruitment person, will always leave for a better opportunity and this is a huge role at one of the richest and most high profile club.

He would be mad to turn it down.

Its not so much the hype around Shields (who only seems to specialise in young players), more so the fact that we embarked on a new recruitment strategy and its back to square one after 4 months

There's only one place Lavia will go when he leaves Saints, and that back to where he came from. Don't they have the option of a buy back?

Blackmore spot on btw. Fabrizo Romano spending all summer updating everyone on our business finally makes sense and the Ben Jacobs tweets that he want's to be "resource heavy" smack of a man who hasn't enjoyed the challenge of not being able to cherry pick who ever he wants. We'll be fine.

You gonna block and delete him? It’s the only way to respond to this

Will first post some photoshopped images of him and vegetables doing interesting things, then block and delete, standard SOPs

He wont do this again to another club

Behave. Shields was a massive appointment for us. Ridiculously well thought of in young player recruitment, and we lured him from City - you make out that replacing him like for like is as simple as popping an ad in a shop window.

The fact that he left 4 months in suggests something ain't right.

Is there much point in making him seeing out his contract? We’re probably not going to sign much in the January window, maybe a striker at best. Shields is going to be using his time to prepare for his next club, he’s not going to be committed to Saints’ best interests. Get rid, get some dough for letting him go early, get a replacement in quickly.

I’ve said it on other threads, my felling is there is conflict in the upper echelons of SFC

I agree. I have a feeling things are going to get worse before they get better. It’s almost like an internal ideals struggle. The old v the new.

we have been here before and come through the other side. I really believe Sunday is so important that we win. It will calm things down a lot and hopefully bring some confidence back

Putting the individual departure here to one side, although Blackmore is behaving like a complete tit and must be breaking every BBC rule on impartiality and going the way of MLT towards the end on Sky, there’s been a lot of non player departures in 2022. Two Heads of Recruitment in less than 6 months, set piece coaches, youth coaches and I’m sure people can remind us of more.

Something very toxic in the SFC environment. SR need to sack off the Gao era people or sell the club on now. The time to be silent owners is well and truly over. Ideally I’d want Rasmus to run it directly for a couple of years and clear decks. Crocker can be continuity and seems committed to the club, not just his fiefdom as Semmens, Steele and Ralph seem to be.

If a club is at public war with a majority of its supporters, it’s a war it can’t win. Often even clubs who are stricken off the pitch can provide fighting performance on it and take the crowd with them eg Palace and Warnock and arguably post Lowe in administration 08/09. We aren’t even seeing that, it’s insipid there as well. This club is in huge trouble, as bad as 2008-9 possibly.

I suspect once a replacement is sourced they will.

I'd assumed given the last 10yrs that they had completely binned this.

I thought Chelsea were getting that guy from RB?

This is weird though; this is the second of the new appointments over the summer who has left/leaving (Clapham and now Shields).

It's hard to totally call the club out on this because it sounds like he's done a number on us, but we really do feel in ultimate turmoil right now in all departments
