Southampton eye Miami training camp during World Cup

Southampton are exploring the possibility of going to Miami for a warm-weather training camp during the World Cup in Qatar.

Conversations have taken place about the impending break and Ralph Hasenhuttl, whose job is under increasing pressure following four consecutive defeats, is not opposed to a trip to the United States.

Different destinations are being discussed, as was the option of remaining in Southampton, but Miami’s sunnier climes are viewed as favourable.

Should the trip go ahead it is expected a number of friendly matches against European opposition could take place.

They should go and do some Arctic training with the British army in Norway instead, as a character building exercise, they definitely don't deserve a sunshine break.

Definitely. Even without the character building aspect, why go and spend a few weeks in hot sunny Florida and expect them to come back and be at the peak of their fitness in the coldest period of our season.

I just don’t get it. What advantage will it bring other than risking injury in ‘friendly’ games?  If these guys are not motivated to play EPL football for Saints given their high salaries, then perhaps they need to re-think their career choice!  The whole idea is a distraction from the real problem - the quality of coaching and management of the first team.

There is 6 weeks in between the Liverpool game and the restart.  We absolutely should be getting some friendlies played in Dec.

Not convinced a trek to Miami is needed but could be a good chance to reset and plan with some decent weather.

The World Cup break may just save our season. Are any of our players going to the wc ? (That in itself is a worrying indication of quality), 1 or 2 max, so the manager will have 6 weeks uninterrupted training time and our squad should be completely fresh, which we seemed to do OK on during COVID. It does beg the question though on why our players aren’t going at 100pc with the high press now knowing they’ll get a 6 week break shortly….

Surely they need to factor in when the world cup games would be played in Miami time. The lads won't want to get up too early to watch games.

Surprised they arent asking for Asia so they can train and then go out on the lash to watch it all.

Interesting point. It’ll also take them weeks to wake up from the tropical slumber they’ll be in having shacked up with Latina hookers and danced the night away to a dogshit reggaeton soundtrack.

Maybe they should go to the British Army Training Camp in Belize "just down the road" from Miami, that'll sort them out - Think the Marines still hold a ridiculous record round the timed Jungle circuit of under an hour , many foreign "crack" forces who have given it a go are nearer to 2 hours.

Might have changed as that has to been 5-6 years when I saw a thing about - vicious environment.
