Would work wouldn’t it:

Bazunu

KWP-ABK-Salisu-Perraud

Lavia

JWP S.Armstrong

Aribo

Adams A.Armstrong

Basically what we have already but pushes the Armstrong up top alongside Adams, brings Aribo more central and Lavia sits deeper

actually looks like a hybrid of what we’ve played at times this season, and some of the better performances we’ve had from the current squad

gives JWP another option to pass back to as well

OK watched first half and that’s enough for me. Luton busy, aggressive and like to press. Also very direct, lots of aimless balls forward and not much quality. Meh

63% possession. Total domination, but they don't loo like scoring.

Smallbone a total non entity in midfield. No change there.

From what I’ve read Jones ’success has come from a 3 at the back with wing back/wingers and a diamond. I think it could suit us as the holding midfielder doesn’t press and just sits. Less chance of getting torn through as we have done with Hassenhuttl.

I’d anticipate we might see

               Bazunu

     ABK.  DCC.   Salisu

KWP.                       Perraud

          Maitland Niles

        JWP.           Lavia

             Armstrong

      Adams.      Armstrong

Handy to have 12 players as well. Let's hope the ref doesn't notice.

I’ll hold my hands up to having said that and yes, I was wrong. I was hoping we’d see more from Mara and Aribo in particular, in attacking positions.

What I will say is that I don’t think we could have bought an awful lot more for £70m and we had to offload a lot of players from the wage bill just to spend that.

Wtf they were playing at spending all summer trying to sign Delap - judging by tonight's game (and his scoring record this season) he can't hack the Championship, let alone being a marquee signing for a PL club. SR fast becoming a bigger shambles than we were under Gao.

He had one good shot but other than that looked like a poor man’s Sam Gallagher. Poor match overall but Stoke looked the better team. Luton worked hard but lacked any quality anywhere. They had a couple of chances that were finished in Che’esque style. Okay, it was only one match and perhaps it doesn’t reflect the way Luton usually play, but there was certainly no sign there of anything to get excited about from our prospective new manager. Watching him chew his fingers was not a good sign. As has been said, if he does come here his arms will be stumps by the Spring.

Did anyone catch his reaction to the Luton fans after the game? The coverage on Sky finished before he walked to the fans

Just to note, Stoke were 19th going into tonight, so it would have been a match Luton would have been expected to win despite the stature of the two clubs. May have also been why Luton dominated possession, etc.

Did 'Mad Nate' do a post-match interview?  Did he mention it was his last game, any speculation over the move?  The upside to Mad Nate is. we'll not have an excuse. like "he's not ready for our system",  as it's pretty much pub football, lump it to the big guy.  We have the players to do it, no need for a transfer budget, the only question is can Mad Nate take the stress of the premiership?  Hopefully, there is a padded room in Staplewood.

Jones confirmed on BBC Three Counties radio that he's going to speak to Saints tomorrow (Weds) but did not go as far committing that he's definitely joining. Said it's "not a done deal". Claims he's had 8 offers from other clubs since he re-joined Luton. Saints have been respectful to wait until after their game tonight to speak to him formally.

Stoke were terrible. They won, but they were terrible. Luton dominated. They played a lot of longish stuff, but did pass it too. A decent mix. Their problem was they just didn't have any quality in the final third. Just like us. They had a couple of golden chances but the strikers fluffed them. No matter the level, if you can't score, you are fucked.

This is so depressing! So Nathan Jones is the only person we are speaking to?????

Someone must be in the no enough to say that SR are at least approaching other candidates!!!!

I’ve tried to be positive but can’t keep up the charade, so please help me to feel a little better.

Maybe when we speak to him we will just be asking him if he knows anyone who would be a decent Premier League manager?

Time will tell if he is capable of stepping up to the PL, but what I find quite depressing about this is that clearly our owners and CEO see him being a good fit because they view us as the Luton Town of the PL. That alone is very worrying. We obviously can't expect to compete with the top 7 or 8, but our history over the last 30 years suggests we should have expectations to be solid PL team, and not as some minnows who should just feel grateful to be here

Says he's flattered to be linked with us and calls us a wonderful Premier League club. Semmens needs to drill it into him quick that we're plucky little underdogs who are lucky to be in the position we are. Side note, also smaller than Goztepe.

Of course he wants it, and Saints (Ankersen) obviously want to appoint him.

Once that happens good luck to him, lets hope he smashes it!

Will need to hit the ground running and be suported in the transfer market in January.

Really hope he does well but it's a hell of a risk. Given the position we are in, we can't really give him time to settle. He needs to have a positive impact immediately. My gut feeling is this won't work. Hopefully I'm wrong.

No, I said it was ridiculous to say we hadn’t signed a striker when we obviously did. I never made any assertions about how good any of them were.

That was all media talk and fake ITKs on Twitter. We may well have been interested and even made a couple of offers but by virtue of the fact that he’s not here and ended up in the Championship, we clearly didn’t think he was worth whatever City were asking.

As for being a ‘marquee signing’, it’s completely up to you how much you’ve hyped him in your own mind. The club made no such dramatisations.

In one of these articles it says this:

"

The world got a glimpse of Luton’s dogged determination and tremendous tenacity in their recent FA Cup bout against the European champions Chelsea. Despite falling to a late Romelu Lukaku strike, the Hatters fought tooth and nail for every ball, going toe-to-toe with the English giants and showing their quality as well as their tactical discipline."

Did anyone watch this game? Was there anything in it that could offer us a tiny sliver of optimism? I get that they just lost to Stoke but every team loses - if he has the ability to get a Championship team playing well against Chelsea may be there is just something positive about him being overlooked?
