Elyounoussi

He didn't have any space to operate in today, and he needs a lot of space because he doesn't have pace, strength and his touch isn't tight enough. The 3 things you need as a PL player really.

If you get tight to him and are physical against him, like Villa were, then he's a fraud of a football player as he'll just get brushed off it every time, or loose it because his touch is too heavy when he's crowded. The worst thing I can say about tonight is that he played like a Villa defender and killed most of our attacks.

I don't know why he stayed on as long as he did, I'm still scratching my head now. If he gets a new contract I'm done with football.

He's in because he either plays like Pele in training or Ralph can't handle the personalities of those players who are better than him.  I think it's the latter.

Yep this is exactly how I saw it. Edozie came on and the first thing he did was win a foul and get a villa player booked. Surely everyone would rather see that than Elyounoussi basically giving the opposition a 12th man.

He was the worst player on the pitch by some distance in one of the worst performances I’ve seen for years. Pretty incredible achievement really

I wouldn’t disagree, but our entire front 4 were embarrassingly poor tonight.

Che Adams, a striker who only scored double figures in a league season twice in a ten year career, at any level.

Elmo, a fraud of a footballer, utterly shit and offers nothing going forwards or in defence,

Djenepo, see above, a completely shite player who shouldn’t be anywhere near the first team.

Adam Armstrong, tries hard but not good enough anywhere on the pitch.

Add to that Diallo is not an effective CM and JWP had a shocker. The only positives are that Joe Aribo didn’t look as terrible as the rest of them, and the new left back lad looks decent.

I’m firmly back in the Ralph out camp, letting that happen under your watch is abysmal management.

Works hard, probably nails his defensive assignment but it's like playing with 10 men in possession.  Slow of mind and physically, he just can't influence a game.  Can't even see it in him to turn it around properly.

He doesn’t nail his defensive assignment though. This has been pointed out in various games, he’s as poor at defending as he is going forwards. Plenty of times he just lets his man drift past him. It’s an assumption that he’s in the team because he offers something defensively but he just doesn’t.

No other player broke up so many Saints moves tonight. It was worse than playing with 10 men.

I think that's he there because he follows Ralph's instructions. Positionally, he's the guy to support the attacks of the others.  To provide a little of everything for them. He should be the one dropping into the space left when KWP attacks. He should be the one adjusting that, when JWP goes to support KWP.

Adams was non existant as we had no midfield control, forward thinking from Diallo or JWP, and there was no plan to find another way of getting it to him; Djenepo was a bit all over the place; AA worked hard as a one man press which was pointless, and didn't get a supply either; Aribo was very deep when he came on, and even Stu was passing it backwards.

Mo's not likely to be the one to grab the game, or offer loads of goals. But post game analysis will probably show him being round about where he should have been, ready to do his job. In Ralph's world of Automatisms, Mo is proabably fairly solid. Even though he did overcommit recently, leaving a gap that cost us a goal down that flank.

Players are allowed a poor game. But with Moi, I can barely remember a truly good game since he has been here. It was quickly determined after he arrived that he lacked pace, physicality and decision making skills to make it with us and was shipped on loan. He has come back with none of that improved, so why on earth he is starting games is beyond me. Also, for a player whose technical skills are meant to be his strength, I find he scuffs the ball alot.

It took the genius manager 79 minutes before he decided to hook him off that pitch tonight.

I would love him to explain what he saw to keep him out there for so bloody long !

There was one occasion we had a break on all he had to do was move 5 yards into space he offered Fck all and it ended up back with Bazanu please someone explain how he stayed on?

He's average, but he wasn't our worst player last night. Villa kicked lumps out of him and he won feeekicks. JWP was shit. Diallo dreadful. Djenepo busy but clueless. A Armstrong crap. Ditto Adams. Don't start me on the keeper. We all like a scapegoat, but we had worse players yesterday.

He’s an intelligent player, tactically he’s good, positional sense is good and clearly he’s a good pro. However he lacks pace & strength which are the main ingredients to play in this league. To lack one of them is tough in England ,but to lack both the rest of your game (touch, passing ability, skill, vision,  etc) needs to be world class. The rest of his game is nowhere near that level and I can’t quite actually believe our scouting system thought it ever would be. He may just about get into a poor premier league squad, with the odd appearance here and there, but the fact he seems to be playing regularly tells you everything you need to know about our manager and recruiting policy.

I think that's a really fair view of him. His tactical discipline and 'intelligence' is one of the reasons he's chosen for his off the ball work, but like you say without strength and pace then your impact in this league will be zero without an extraordinary touch and pass, which for him is just bog-standard averageness.

I think most of us saw that when he was playing under Hughes after we'd just signed him - he looks so unsuited to the PL. Nothing has changed in those years apart from him being decent in the SPL, and a L2 player would look decent in the SPL.
