Paulwantsapint81 Posted 12 September, 2022 Share Posted 12 September, 2022 With the departure of senior squad members including vice captain Oriol Romeu RH is wanting the players to work out a new hierarchy who do we think will rise to the challenge obviously JWP is captain marvel Stu Armstrong? Has he lost his authority as judge without Jack Stephens as his chief henchman KWP is a senior member of defence Che Adams is senior attacker DCC World Cup runner up Salisu ? ABK ? McCarthy / Caballero / Walcott senior pros
LiberalCommunist Posted 12 September, 2022 Share Posted 12 September, 2022 Jesus. None of the above. Well, Che is front runner from that list but nowhere near ideal. We've made great strides, but this does also highlight some shortcomings.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 13 September, 2022 Share Posted 13 September, 2022 KWP wrote a piece recently about how JWP is coaching him in being a leader or something similar - perhaps that’s where the succession lies? Too early for him yet, but perhaps AMN is the man to replace Romeu as VC?
david in sweden Posted 13 September, 2022 Share Posted 13 September, 2022 However promising the new recruits may seem to be there is no obvious candidate so early in their Saints' careers, as some of them may still need a taxi to find their way to St.Mary's. A captain (or vice-captain in this case) needs to know the club, have the respect of the dressing room, the confidence of the manager and the whole-hearted acceptance of the fan base. Not every good player is a naturally a good leader and the recent disappearance of many of the " old guard " does leave a vacuum to fill (Ralph's words). As club-captain JWP is unique in his service to the club, and sometime soon will become the longest serving Saints player of all time but of the candidates for vice-captain there are few to choose from (given that leaders often emerge, rather than being appointed). Few would deny Ché Adams commitment as a one-man battering-ram up front, but in this position he is not an ideal choice to encourage those behind him. Stuart Armstrong has experience (both at club and international level), but at 30+ , is not an ideal choice for someone who rarely commands a regular starting place, and lacks the " longevity " that we saw in ...Steven Davis. We've had a couple of good seasons from Kyle Walker-Peters and he shows 100% commitment, and can be called " a fan favourite" and in other circumstances might have gained a few more England caps for his consistent performances at club level, and for that reason he would be my first choice regardless of most other names mentioned here.

Miltonaggro Posted 13 September, 2022 Share Posted 13 September, 2022 Vice Captain should be Neil Shipperley.
LaptopSaint Posted 13 September, 2022 Share Posted 13 September, 2022 I'd go with Joe Aribo. Or Forbes Philipson-Masters.

Yes, which is why I said too early for him, but it’s a loan to buy I believe so not impossible in the future as a senior player.
Brissysaint Posted 14 September, 2022 Share Posted 14 September, 2022 Unfortunately Salisu doesn’t seem the vocal type and ABK is just too young. don’t think stu will be around for much longer either so rule him out. Kwp for me, seems well liked within the squad and is ‘senior’ enough
Saint_clark Posted 14 September, 2022 Share Posted 14 September, 2022 KWP is the obvious contender, possibly Perraud if he cements his place in the team as he seems very vocal.
Jeremy Corbyn Posted 14 September, 2022 Share Posted 14 September, 2022 KWP would make a lot of sense, guaranteed starter, good professional, club will want to incentivise him for a long stay and he shares the "son in Law" character of our captain. cloggy saint Posted 14 September, 2022 Share Posted 14 September, 2022 Who cares? Vice captain is a token appointment and fairly meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

Plenty on here who would want a hard man who kicks people, shouts alot and growls at the opposition. Thats whats still expected of capts/vice capts these days isnt it? Just give us somebody who leads by example with his performances on the pitch, just like Prowsey
