I went on a stadium tour on Sunday and the pitch looked even worse if anything. Think it will be ripped up in November.

Not a gardener but is November a good time to be ripping up the pitch?

I was told at the Chelsea game that there is an infection of some sort of grass eating disease and it’s basically running rampant and there isn’t a lot they can do about it.

They said they were trying to treat it but would likely get worse before it gets better, hopefully have some 70s/ 80s style games on muddy pitch

A few years ago they put the whole pitch relaying process on the website , major operation if all the sub soil has to go as well . Once turf down they have special (UV?)lamps across thepitch at intervals to make it grow etc

They normally run those over the Chapel penalty box as it gets no sun in the winter, you can sometimes see where they have been as the grass is a slightly different shade of Green.

Grass normally stops growing at around 7°c obviously a bit of sun helps. Not sure if the under soil heating can cheat nature should they have to relay the pitch in theWorld Cup window …………..although at present running that might substantially  reduce the budget for a striker 😳

What is the legality around artificial grass? I'm sure there was a team in Europe which all the big boys lost against as they had an artificial pitch. If we as a team could get used to playing on it, it could be a massive differentiator.

Apparently they're going to try and resolve more permanently after the Brentford game as we've got a few weeks without a home game then (1st Oct) but in the meantime it's just managing the best they can.

I saw that the Womens' match got moved to Totton on Monday due to "a fixture clash", suspect that it was more to do with the pitch being unusable possibly because they were going to relay it immediately after the Brentford match. Maybe they've now started earlier. The PL have said they expect to reschedule this weekend's round of fixtures to the New Year, so no chance that the pitch would be needed until October. Is 3 weeks enough to relay the pitch and have it ready for a PL fixture?
